As a new manager in a pretty established division (basically, with very few new teams like mine), I've lost the majority of my matches pretty badly. And given how slowly players improve, past a certain level (my low-level players improve quickly into mediocre-level players, but still not good enough to be starters), I'm going to continue losing a lot of my matches for the next few months, unless I can get good buys on the trade market, but again, I don't have much money. It's a system that rightfully favors established teams, but I think there has to be a better way to ease new managers into the game. Personally, I don't have a problem with losing to managers that have put a lot of time and effort into managing their team. Their players *should* be better, but I understand why it might be frustrating. The players you start with aren't competitive at all for months - my entire starting roster consists of players I got (luckily, very cheaply) on the trade market. I've kept 3 young players from the new team to slowly develop, since they're a lot younger and have potential, I guess. But if you don't get good trades, you're pretty much doomed for a while.

Not sure which league your in. But there were several leagues added just for this reason (3.x leagues). And Ive personally seen several teams that are close to the top league, start all the way from the bottom in your exact shoes. The problem lies in peoples patience or lack thereof. Many expect to join up and within 2 weeks able to win matches vs top ranked teams in their league rather than demonstrate a sort of waiting attitude. Yeah there is a measure of luck when it comes to the TM and acquiring new talent. But good players will always hit sooner or later, and how you spent (or didnt) your money will determine if any join your team.

I was put into League 2.3 right off the bat - I guess that's just where one of the managers that dropped out originally came from. It's a tough division - I do challenge matches often and lose most of them - one or two points difference in stats is larger than I thought. I'm always slightly torn about starting some rookies just to get experience, if I'm going to lose the match anyway, and starting my best players to see if they can squeak out of a win.

Since your team is new, build for the future. A good plan is to get 2-4 youngsters (high potential of course) and farm experience like crazy. Look at Enumerate, Sentinel and Tyrant on my team, until about 8-10 experience your players will be inconsistent (or just suck). Make sure to not rest your players, if condition is low just dont play him. It is also always good to get a couple players that can win now so you can cash in on the sponsor bonus. It might be a good thing to get demoted to 3.x and build there, then work your way up.

I've got 3 14-year olds (well, one of them turned 15 just a few days ago) that seem OK (though ridiculously weak at the moment, compared to the rest of my roster), and I'm going to develop them since they really don't cost that much anyhow. I didn't know how to evaluate their potential until recently and there's not enough time left in this season to find out, but I'm basically going with a larger-than-average roster with one rookie of each race to replace the veterans once they get good enough. I am going to start all rookies for the last match of the season though, since there's no way I can win anyway, and every little bit counts. In a sense, it was actually easier when my entire roster sucked, because it didn't really matter who I sent, they were going to lose, but gain useful experience in the meantime. But after I traded for a few decent players, it would be like, "man, if I start all my best players I *might* win... go for it!" and when I lost regardless, I'd be kicking myself for not starting the rookies.

It seriously pains me to see old friends quit after being together for what seems like forever. Deja and Huss are the recent ones, but Gann was the first one that made me sad ![]()
