Jaedong "It will be a very crucial finals in my pro-gaming career"
'Tyrant' Jaedong (Hwaseung Oz) won the ticket to Shanghai.
In the Korean Air OSL Season2 Semi-Final A, Jaedong defeated Stork (Samsung Khan) with the set score of 3:2 and succeeded in reaching the finals. This is his first OSL final since winning the Bacchus OSL in 2009, 3 seasons ago.
Q&A:
Q: After one year, you've finally made it back to the OSL finals.
- Even though I'm very happy, it still feels a little strange. Since I'm in the finals now, I'm even hungrier for the title, so I've decided to cancel vacation time in order to practice. Honestly, I'd rather play the finals today and get it over with so that I can have a rest [T_T]. I haven't been playing well at all in recent finals, so I really want to win this OSL.
Q: How was life after the MSL finals loss?
- I wanted to forget about it and return to normal life but I was filled with so much regret. I remembered the fans and their expectations too. Also, I had to prepare for today's semi-finals match. It was hard to focus in practice. Moreover, my opponent today was Stork, the man who gave me the most ZvP losses. I'm glad that I won at the end.
Q: Your gameplay wasn't the best today [t/n: literally your competitive edge wasn't that good]
- I also think that this series didn't seem like it was played by me. I won the first match due to luck, then I lost the second and third matches, so I thought today might end up a failure. Usually during a match, I would never have any pessimistic thoughts like these, but today I just had that kind of feeling. But I thought of pleasing my fans, and I really wanted them to see me winning a title. To be honest, I did not play to my full ability today, that's why I wasn't that happy even though I had won.
- Even from my point of view, I wasn't on my game today. It wasn't my play, and I felt that several times during the matches. To be honest, I got really lucky the first game. Losing the second and third game made me feel that perhaps I will lose the series altogether, but then I thought of the fans. I was then able to focus better in games 4 and 5, envisioning myself winning at the finals and grasping perhaps the last opportunity for the OSL title. Still, it feels strange inside because I don't think I prepared as well as I should have.
Q: Do you want another "LeeSsangRok" for the OSL finals?
- Of course! I want Flash to reach the finals. Really, I am hoping for that to happen. I learned a lot from the recent MSL finals loss, and I also took the time to re-evaluate myself. The score of 2:3 may indicate a narrow loss, but I thought that I was definitely behind in many areas of the game. I must use this opportunity to become stronger and bring my momentum back up by winning at the OSL finals. It will be a very crucial finals in my pro-gaming career.
Q: Perhaps you're feeling insecure? [T/N: most likely referring to the fact that Flash seems to be dominating the rivalry and solidifying his position as #1 SCBW player in esports]
- I understand that I could be falling out [of the race for #1 spot]. [For me] losing to the same player in three straight finals is unacceptable. That's why I really want Flash to make it to the finals. I will play as if my life depended on it and win in the finals.
Q: Nobody has 4 OSL titles yet.
- I'm aware that If I win, I will be the first to do so. Sure that sounds great and it makes me want the title even more, but that has no meaning to me right now. I just want to pull up my momentum and pace.
Q: Compared to MSL, OSL maps are said to be slightly better for the zerg in ZvT.
- Maps don't matter too much. I don't have too many concerns or comments regarding the map pool. The maps weren't bad for both leagues anyway. I don't want to criticize or blame the maps.
Q: The finals will be in Shanghai
- Since the finals is overseas, I think many fans that live there will come. I'm worried that it'll feel more like a vacation than a finals match. Self-control will be necessary to prevent myself from getting too loose. Otherwise, there aren't any major concerns.
Q: Last words
- Many fans reached out to me after the MSL Finals last week. I may have lost [in the MSL Finals], but my passion and desire for winning are both as strong as ever. I will prove this to you next week in Shanghai, and to do that I will practice and prepare to the best of my ability. Thanks [to the fans] for all your concern and support.
Credits (along with apologies and thanks) to Kyuukyuu who completed first half of the interview before the nasty OpticalShot decided to translate too! xD *Note: Some parts didn't overlap so I just included both.

Thanks for the interview. Jaedong didn't play in an inspiring fashion today but in the end he advanced and that's what matters... I'm still sad for Stork though. So close...
Jaedong seems exhausted, probably burning out at this point. It definitely wasn't him playing at his best, especially game 2. not scouting a speed zealot timing, skimping so much on defense, losing a drone to a probe, and being indecisive with 2 control groups of lings that then didn't participate in the deciding engagement.... He should probably take it chill for 2 or 3 days. Also:

No imbalance complaints from Jaedong, ever lol :D. Take lessons idra

I was thinking the same thing. All the death-stare and "hate losing" attitude makes him the tyrant he is, sure, but sometimes I think he's too intense in the mind for his own good. Oh well, he's just doing what's best for his job and it's hard to hold up a dispute against Jaedong's decorated career, so meh.

Fuck yeah, the Dong is so manly. Sometimes his fanboys makes me dislike him due to their annoying constant whining about Terran/map imba, but he himself is such a baller that I just have to love him. Go JD!

Same here; I have crazy respect for Jaedong. He is really an amazing players and has a great personality. However, nothing enrages me so much as his fans screaming imba after each and every one of his losses.
While I appreciate the fact that he looks to his own problems without making complaints about issues that he cannot change (inherent imbalances in TvZ or on certain maps), I don't see the problem with fans pointing out those issues as contributing reasons for a loss.
I think that it was a huge performance for Stork to lose 2:3 to JvP. Too bad he scouted the extra lings building with his second scout and didn't add another cannon in game 5 :| Well see you soon in Shanghai JD !
Chinese Jaedong fans? Is that true? Well, I'm in America and my vacation is next summer. Didn't CVhina move on to DotA and SC2? Oh wait, China has laggy internet, no way. Saying that, China will probably be the last Brood War city eventually.

Why using your nerves and energy on something you can not change? Jaedong just has a rationnal and pragmatical approach.
If when you lose you think "I did something wrong, I will analyse my mistake, and I will make sure that it won't, ever, happen again", you improve. If you lose and start raging about imba carriers and unfavourable map pool, or finding excuse of your opponent being bad and winning because he was bad, well, you are not learning anything and you don't win anything.

suck it jaedong fanboys. unfortunately this will still not be enough to stop people from discrediting flash's msl win due to maps

Fanboys will always be fanboys. Kind of annoying though regardless...
Good to see Jaedong deflecting that map comment and not blaming shit on "imba-ness" and deciding to simply work harder. Good for him.

His quote speaks more about his character than the balance of maps. The maps weren't overwhelmingly Terran favoring but you have to admit there was quite a tilt.

I'm quoting this post because it highlights the unreasonableness of saying "Jaedong doesn't mind the maps, so they're totally fair!!"
Jaedong is saying the maps are fine because A) it would be look bad to blame the maps B) it's the wrong mindset for winning, as already explained. But the maps aren't "fine". It's not being said to discredit Flash, it's because we as fans aren't getting the showdown we deserve. When was the last time Flash and Jaedong got to play a best of 5 vs one another where every map played was balanced for the matchup?
What was it someone said a while back? "How to win a starleague title: have really good mirrors and wait until the maps favor your race." Protoss didn't dominate during the 6 dragons era for no reason, same with Swarm Season.

Is there really any need to dis China just because a Chinese person writes on the boards? Maybe if you actually tried going to China you would learn something............

Agreed.
I think the OSL could be good with regards to maps, though. We could possibly get one ZvT imbalanced map in Dreamliner, two TvZ imbalanced map in Polaris Rhapsody and (just going from the win / loss rates) Grand Line SE (where Jaedong and Flash recently had one of their most entertaining games in a long time), and a relatively even map twice, assuming Eye of the Storm is the double map.
I'm really hoping for that - Eye of the Storm, Grand Line SE, Dreamliner, Polaris Rhapsody, Eye of the Storm - if Free doesn't upset Flash in the semifinals.

Are you from China city? I love it there! It has over 1 billion people so its kinda crowded, but its still nice .
As much as Jaedong's character prevents him from blaming the maps, anyone can see that they slightly favored terran. This OSL finals will be awesome!
Just because JD doesnt blame maps doesnt mean they arent imbalanced. I think most logical fans complain only because it robs them of what could be amazingly epic games where one side doesnt have to utilize risky builds just so they can even the odds back to a 50/50 chance. That being said there are way too many JD/Flash fanboy turds that blindly defend their heros that are the cause of all the raging. Anyway the OSL map pool is better overall so regardless of who JD faces it should be great games.

I thought it was established that jaedong played like shit? He even said so himself in the interview!
Sir Jaedong is the man. I liked how he doesn't consider losing 2:3 to Flash as a close result, and almost treats it as a huge loss; and is happy with the maps / thinks they don't matter much. I hope he wins this OSL, and makes a new BW history.

if this was bisu, he would be like, fukc the maps~~ imbaa~~ haha but newayz, i hope jaedong makes history. comon jaedong, 4 osl! beat flash!

Protoss have a much much harder time dealing with bullshit in maps. Remember tears of the moon(protoss)? No real solution to that at all. 85% ZvP. I don't think it's ever as hopeless for terrans/zergs, even on Zergliner and Terran Eye.

He doesn't blame maps like Bisu at least. :D This is good.
srsly stork flash would be sooo epic. we've seen jaedong flash so many times already @ wcg and msl and frankly, i'm a bit tired of watching them butt heads.
I am a huge Flash fan and would hold him as a favourite in pretty much any finals, including vs Jaedong. But Jaedong saying he will play as if his life depended on it... Flash you better bring your A-game.
On September 02 2010 18:34 Ruff wrote: Jaedong is zerg's last hope!
Better hope Stork doesn't learn to build a second cannon then..
If he does, then zergs will probably start screaming imba on maps that allow you to have 2 cannons behind a choke.
Jaedong is really strict with greedy protoss players , if he ever has a chance to ling rush you he'll do it . If Stork had better defences Jaedong wouldn't have rushed him .
I hope he starts punishing Flash when he 14 CC's , but it's not much you can do against that if you open with a 12 hatch build . I think 9 pool or overpool would be better against Flash on most maps . He should've learned after 2 finals now that being greedier then Flash doesn't work , because Flash timing pushes you after the 14 CC . He should put pressure on the small timing that Flash is vulnerable when he delays his rax to 14 CC after he scouts , because Flash's early game plan in finals against Jaedong so far has been scout and 14 CC if possible . That will probably have a higher success rate of winning then taking a bigger chunk of the map and defend against Flash's inevitable aggression .

Congrats to Jaedong on the win. I'm a little conflicted on who I want to win the OSL Finals, though. If Jaedong wins, he will have more OSL titles than anyone, but if Flash wins, he'll finally get the golden mouse...This is just so conflicting. TT
