why there is no option for Pure? come on, boy got 3/4 place last season and doesn't even get mentioned in the poll?

Pure won't make it out of the ro16.

Stork, if you aren't going to win another OSL, at least get another silver. : )

hyuk might have a chance! ^_^

Group A: Sea Group B: Calm Group C: JangBi Group D: Light Group E: Leta Group F: Bisu Group G: ZerO Group H: Action Group I: Reach Group J: BaBy Group K: Stork Group L: Jaedong
Group G is the toughest imo.
Good to see a good balance in representation for all three races, although I don't feel any of the toss players are real threats to the obvious favorites Jaedong/ Flash
And wtf 3 ppl from OZ qualified!!

gotta say the lineup is quite sweet this season

If there's going to be an OSL before SC2 that has neither Flash nor Jaedong in the finals, this is it. Pretty much every single good player managed to make it to the Round of 36.
|
Go go gadget REACH. Moar mantoss.
|
Snow is in one damned group I hope this is the greatest OSL ever. so many big names and some new comers. Newcomers upsets, Big names dominate, CJ TAKE IT ALL
|
|
Hurry for only 1 group having (potential) mirror match!
Best Calm Hyuk Fantasy Kwanro Bisu Zero Shuttle Hiya Baby Stork Jaedong
|
This round of 36 will be epic!
Reach hit a brick wall here. He is up against Hiya and Shine, two anti-Protoss specialists.
|
Group A
BeSt will 2-0 great with his mediocre PvZ and stomp Sea with his macro PvT
Group B
free. HOW WOULD CLAM OR FAILNATA MAKE IT? LOLOLOL
Group C
Hyuk or RuBy
Group D
Fantasy because Light is bad and Brave isnt experienced enough. though he has Stork has his mentor, he might upset. but will only take down the dim light
Group E
Kwanro because the Leta and CityToss chokes hard.
Group F
hyvaa. i have no faith in Bisu or Mind.
Group G
Snow. Fanboyism will make it true
Group H
Shuttle because hes most impressive.
Group I
Reach. Mantoss incoming.
Group J
Hydra. Hmm? you doubt me? prepare to facepalm.
Group K
Stork. hes slumping but i think he'll manage. nvm he recovered.
Group L
Movie. FOR CJ. and i think he can take down the Dong

Pusan has a real shot in his group :3 (well more so than any other group)
Kinga funny that my two favorite players end up in the same group rofl

Movie was the last non-Stork player to beat Jaedong. I don't think he's pulling that off again though, seeing as its been a year and Jaedong's ZvP is invincible now :D

Group L is exciting. It's either Movie or Jaedong for OSL Ro16.

Snow being voted most overhyped is absolute bullshit.

These are some awesome groups, about as balanced as I could realistically hope, and more importantly, most have a z/t/p in them. Lots a good players, it'll be fun.

Wow every single group has 1P, 1T and 1Z, except for group D. Were the groups hand made or was it by some godlike random chance that this happened?

I just want to note that the groups have the smallest possible number of the same races in each group. This seems really unlikely to be the product of randomly generated groups to me.
Just a rough calculation: every group has about a 2/9 chance of having one of each race, and we can apply that probability to the 11 groups that have one of each race, so the chance of the groups falling this way are about (2/9)^11, or about 0.0000065%.
I'm calling shenanigans.

They most likely randomized one player of each race into each group, so that the groups where still random while the race spread wasn't.
|
I'd vote leta, but he's gonna get 9-n pooled out of a starleague for the umpteenth time
|
This is going to be a great OSL. Seriously, this lineup? Ssak is the only vaguely-unknown player of the entire Ro36.
Race distribution, skill distribution, all looking AWESOME.
Hoping for mantoss, anticipating LeeSsang.
Or hell, hoping for any damn protoss to win an OSL for once. Bisu if he can pull it together, but I'd rather see Stork get his second OSL title. But really, any toss will do. The last OSL win for a toss before Stork was Anytime in 2005.

bisu or Stork vs JD or Flash will be epic final

Groups A, B, G look scary as hell also there are enough protoss for one in every group :o

That's a rough approximation. You need to do combinatorics, i.e., count the total number of combinations with one of each race per group, divide by the total number of possible combinations for groups (using combinations does not adjust for the bye round player, but is irrelevant for the purpose of answering the random team question). So the probability should be higher than (2/9)^11, but still too small to be random.

ahh what sick and loaded groups
Group A : Best
Group B : Calm
Group C : Jangbi
Group D : Fantasy

I'm calling shenanigans. It seems pretty obvious they went for race variations (1 of each race where possible), and then seeded the players of each race randomly into those slots. This way most groups would have to prepare for both races and we can avoid mirrors at this stage. These groups look great and I'm sure they'll be a lot more interesting than mirror matches.
edit: forgot to add that before randomizing the eligible candidates for each category (by race played) they likely also removed teammates from the list of potential opponents in the group.

Snow is SOOOOO overhyped it's ridiculous - he will not make it past Ro36 and will be forever forgotten (except by CJ fanboys) Bisu and Baby will make Ro8 only to be eliminated Killer will advance over Skyhigh AND Stork (Skyhigh was eliminated from EVER 2009 by none other than ggaemo 2-0 in Ro36). Jaedong will win this OSL.

Poor Pusan. Kwanro sadly is one of the best players no matter how stupid his play often looks and before that he has to face Leta (who is really bad at Starleagues so I think at least that is possible)

And Killer is neither the favorite against skyhigh and since stork has something to prove after his horrible MST he will probably demolish anyone who advances.

I'm hoping they will do this seeding system for the quarterfinals ala MSL in order to avoid Jaedong v Flash quarters two seasons ago.

Predictions:
A - Best. Battle of the mediocre matchups in the first game, followed by Best showing his back-in-form PvT. B - Free. Personally I think this is a tossup between Free and Calm, but I haven't watched a lot of their recent PvZ/ZvP. C - Hyuk. Pure fanboyism. D - Fantasy. Not much to say other than he's the best player in the group, and he isn't playing his bad matchup. E - Leta. Not Bo5 means Leta will do well. F - Bisu. Fanboyism; in reality Mind is probably more likely. G - Zero. As much as I want Snow to make it out of this group, I just simply don't think his PvZ is good enough to beat someone of Zero's caliber. H - Action. Shuttle and ForGG both seem very on-and-off these days. I - Hiya. I just don't think Reach has it in him, and Shine's ZvT has always been awful. J - Stats. Stats and Baby both have a decent shot, so I picked this one out of fanboyism again. K - Stork. The obviously better player against two middle-tier players. If Stork doesn't pass this round, it's because he defeated himself. L - Jaedong. Stop dreaming, Movie fans.
Poll Choices: Winner - Flash. I'm not sure how the new OSL map plays out. It looks like Terran can be in a very good position surviving early mutalisk play (and lets be honest, TvZ is going to be the deciding matchup for this OSL). Ultimately, I think it will depend on how this map plays out. Royal Roader - Stats. Legend of the Fall, combined with the fact that I think Stats has a better chance of out-PvZing Zero, Jaedong, and Effort than Snow does. Overhyped - Snow. His PvT is immaculate, but he has shown absolutely no exceptional talent at the other two matchups. Underdog - WHY IS HYUK NOT IN THIS POLL?
Edit: Legend of the Fall just made me rethink my answers. I now think Snow has a nonzero chance against Zero, Movie has a slight chance against Jaedong, and Stats is the most likely Royal Roader. I was also tempted to put Best as the winner, but reason prevailed.
|
|
Sickkk, all the protosses mean that JD can finally add to his vP streak and ELO.
|
Snow is Baby's age. He's not as good as people are making him out to be right now but the potential is clearly there. He probably won't make ro16 this season but the skills and swagger are already starting to make an appearance. If BW lives through 2011, I'd bet a lot on Snow being a major force.
|
Jaedong is gonna breeze through his group.
So lucky he gets matched with a rookie and a slumping movie.

now it's JvP.
teams' best chance of beating jd at his best is to just avoid him altogether.

Intensely looking forward to:

Extremely likely that both will happen, so I'll go ahead and assume.

I feel bad for Action. Pretty shitty group. And running into ForGG is like every Zerg's worst nightmare at this point... just really hard to predict.
Anyways, these groups seem epic ^^

+ Show Spoiler [Predictions] +Group A greatHe's playing very well right now. I think BeSt has a good chance here too and I'm pretty much writing off Sea due to his horrible inconsistency and general unpredictability all the time. Group B freeYYT <3. Light won't even make it past Brave. Group E LetaLeta should destroy this group, but he never does. Oh well, LBing him anyway. Group F BisuMind and Hyvaa are like the two weakest Ro36ers that aren't unknown entities like Ssak. Seriously. Bisu will rape this group. Group G ZerOReally vs Snow will be good. Winner getting raped by ZerO? Also good, but not in the same way. Seriously neither of those guys can vZ for shit, Zero has this easy (it's not the Ro8 yet, he won't lose). Group H fOrGGShuttle if he can win against Action, but I don't think he can. Group I HiyAHiya. I will be very surprised if he doesn't make it out here. Group J BaByBaby should have no problems here. Group K StorkNeither Skyhigh nor Killer can stand up to Stork no matter what crappy skill level he's currently at. Dinotoss. Group L JaedongI think it would be awesome if Ssak won though. Movie ain't no thang.
Very nice group G, others are pretty mediocre in terms of group-of-death-ness but all in all if all the group favourites manage to advance we're shaping up to have an amazing OSL. Then again, all OSLs look promising in the Ro36 and we always end up with dumb shit like go.go vs. Bisu T_T
|
I dont get it why group G is so damn cool... the only question to me is who will get crushed by Zero... Im sick of one MU players... They get far then fail miserably... I'm not saying i wanna see Flash and Stork and JD in every single finals, or Ro4, but if a player gets there, then i f*in' expect him to play good, and not just lay down and die (Free?, Kal? (okay they are not 1 MU wonders i know), Shine??).
|
Man, if Reach could advance that would be epic ! (Yes I know I'm an oldschool player fanboy) He looks like he hasn't lost that much of his skill since going to the military, he's still able to hang in there with the youg guns.
|
I really hope that we will get proper JD-Flash finals this time, not some 3-0 or power outage bullshit. Bo3 Isn't good enough between these two.
|
So sad HoeJJa didn't make it : / After Oldboy I can't help but cheer for him.
Can't wait to see how Group G turns out, I have to go with ZerO though.

Groups E (Leta, Pusan, Kwanro) and I (HiyA, Reach, Shine) are so unfair compared to G (Really, Snow, ZerO), J (Stats, Hydra, BaBy) and L (Jaedong, Ssak, Movie). It's not even funny. This OSL will have at least 2 bad players, and at least 3 good players will not be in it.

Yes, he was in the prelims, which is why people called SKT's Mong Ssak. Except, now that he's been eliminated, there's no one to confuse him with, and in general, more people know Ssak as Mong.

In group E, one or two of the players definitely deserve to be in the round of 16.
In I, two players deserve it. Shine is a good player (sorry Reach).
In G, all three players should really be in the RO16.
As for J, it wouldn't be a great tragedy if/when Stats and Hydra drop out. You overrate them if you think otherwise.
