... savior and those other cheating sons of bitches.
originally i was pretty sympathetic to those match-riggers but... after looking at all those pictures, and the tears and sweat all those progamers endured on their way to their goals...
it really makes me pissed off how... lightly those cheaters had taken e-sports
p.s. i'm surprised they didn't show boxer's emotional loss too Oov... that was one of the most emotionally intense moments in SC history
On May 22 2010 09:26 stroggos wrote: haha, i wonder if some of those games the players cried after were rigged.
delicious rigged tears.
These pictures are of progamers that actually worked hard to beat their opponents... op is saying these people are playing out of passion of the game and dedication while others are throwing away games for money...
missing the picture of oov biting his trophies in tears.
i can only imagine though their emotions of success after hours and hours, day after day, week after weeks of practise, that their HARD work and dedications paid off.

the equally passionate and hard working B and C-Teamers never get a chance?"
This one really got to me. I started watching professional StarCraft back when in late 2008, and I remember the picture of Jangbi crying when he lost. But with this, it would be horrible for all the B teamers and amateurs to never get a chance at their dream.

No it was when he qualified for an OSL, according to the caption

That's not supposed to be a progamer. Just a reminder for prolonged computer users to straighten their spines.
Yall are looking way to into it. Do people cry about steroids in baseball, no they get on and get over it. These guys are big boys, those who dont cheat get recognized and remembered, those who do are trash.
That being said, how much money did they make for rigged matches cause i bet it was mad profitable lolz
^ Nah, that's the thing. Most people threw games for like 5-8 thousand USD. It's pretty heartbreaking that they'd be willing/desperate enough to throw away a career for that kind of money.
Q: What does Coach Cho mean to you? How about CJ Entus? Be honest! Savior: Since I'm the only player to win a title after CJ was founded, I still think of Ma Jae Yoon (Note:himself) when I think of CJ. Through all those leagues, foreign tournaments, superfights, etc, I was always wearing the CJ uniform.
It's like a pillar (Note: the Korean connotation here is something he can really rely on for stability) for me, the team. I hope a lot of winners come from this team after me.

The Calm/Hwasin incident at IEST (foreign tournament outside of KeSPA's sphere of influence) was never really debunked to everyone's satisfaction. STX denied the two fixed the final matches/claimed it was just mind games/competitive banter and it was up to people to draw their own conclusions. By most accounts they rigged it but due to the nature of the games things (as far as their progaming careers are concerned) went on before long and most let go of the incident.

really? That's odd, I heard obviously from an unreliable source in an interview that they make 6 figures. If they do make that much and throw games for 10 grand, that's phail.

Only the best of the best make that kind of money. Most earn rather meager paychecks, and you have to think in terms of long-term security, which for a progamer is probably more or less nonexistent, especially in an environment like Korea. Still, this doesn't make throwing games any less shameful.

No. Only the biggest stars make money like that.
Imagine you're Savior. You go from nothing to a somebody. You're making six figures for playing a game. But you're slipping and progaming is a very temporary profession with no reliable follow-up career opportunities. Maybe you could stay near the top if you could get your game together, but the fire isn't in your eye anymore.
Intellectually, it's not hard to understand why these people did what they did. And I will still love Savior's gameplay. But I cannot forgive him even if I can understand it. That kind of selfish dishonesty puts the entire industry in jeopardy all for the sake of a quick buck. It betrays the teams and the fans.
On a smaller scale, it's like what Goldman Sachs does.
You know all those match rigging and stuff should be handled by the coaches and managers of the team. Think about it, the match rigging in Proleague only affected the team so the coaches or manager can choose to punish the player or not. In individual league, if you choose to lose a game or 2, then its YOUR problem for doing so. No need to get the government into this.
God... I'm still in the denial/shock phase. Savior, our only freaking zerg bonjwa, who so many people admired, LED the parade of cheaters. It's kind of like finding out that your most favourite uncle ever molested you as a child.

If stealing lots of money from others doesn't warrant government intervention, and is solely a matter to be handled internally, then that's a pretty nice deal for the culprits. If you bet 1k on savior to win a game and he threw it, would you feel that only his team should have a gripe with it?

- What do you (Boxer) think of Savior? At your out of army interview it seemed like you want to teach Savior more. ▲ Boxer: During the Savior Era, he dominated everything and looked invincible. He is a very experiance played. During my out of army interview you guys asked me 'who is the player who seems to be most similar with you?' and I answered savior but I guess people took it as a 'apprentice' thing. But thats not what I meant. We both earned so much money but blew it all on useless stuff. When we started to try getting more money we started losing. Once a man is seduced to life's other fine entertainment, it is very difficult to get back up. But Savior is dealing with his problems very well. This is why I said we were similar.
- And what do you think of Boxer? ▲ Savior: Come to think of it, I do think what Boxer said is right... When I first started to be a progamer, I wanted to catch up to E-Sports icon Boxer Hyung. I tried very hard as to get up to that level. After hearing what Boxer Hyung said I agree with it 100%. Only people who lost everything they had can know this feeling. Honestly, I always felt Boxer Hyung is the only one who can understand my feeling. Because he knew how hard it is to go through, I think him understanding my position is thankful.
- When a top player falls to the ground, it is fact that a player to get back to their #1 spot is extremely difficult. ▲ Boxer: For players who reach their peak and fall back down it is very difficult to get back to their original state. You can't concentrate, and when practice isn't working out you seek for other pleasures. Women and alcohol mainly. Players who were at the top know the way back, but it is still very difficult. Players like us know how harsh reality is, and that is probably why it is the biggest factor. After leaving the army, I decided on 1 thing. I don't want to screw around anymore and I think I can give up everything for gaming. Like the first time I came onto the e-sports scene, I want to sacrifice everything to get back to my original state.
▲ Savior: I agree with everything, especially how you have to sacrifice everything. When I was at my prime, I met people and just played. When I wanted to get back inshape, disconnecting myself with life's pleasures was so had. Not long ago I felt it, getting back in shape is a long, long way.
It's funny how when an idol like Savior falls, people don't find it enough to think that he has destroyed his career his life, his future, his reputation and will probably end up in jail anyway. He fucked up, he pays for it, this hate is so fucking unnecessary.

Ok, by your logic, we should not hate Hitler. Because his career was destroyed and his future when he lost the war, he committed suicide and lost his honor when he is known as one of the worst men in history and he is the butt end of so many jokes.
Because bad things have happened to a bad guy, therefore we shouldn't be mean to him anymore right and we shouldn't hate him for his crimes anymore? Interesting logic.

Hate is a pretty strong word, that and your analogy is not the best because you're comparing someone who embezzled money to someone who committed mass genocide.
By the opposite extreme, should we hate Ashlee Simpson because she lip synced one performance of Saturday Night Live and destroyed her reputation? Should we hate Jerry Springer because he tried to run for Congress despite the fact that he runs such a lewd and lascivious show?
I think the assertion here isn't that "Savior did nothing wrong," it's that there really isn't any point to step on a man when he is down. In some ways that is a bit petty.
He's already going to live with that damaged reputation for the rest of his life. There is no need to attach so much emotional hatred to it when he'll already have to live with that guilt forever.
The focus is not on "hating" savior, it's on the consequences of his actions that not only he will feel, but the entire esports industry.
The proper analogy I think is this: you spent ten years to make a plane that is capable of flight for the first time in human history. You worked tirelessly, sleeping little and knowing little of life's pleasures. Then, this guy "savior" comes along and smashes it. His crime is petty, he will probably be charged a fine for damaging your property. But the entire world will "hate" on him for destroying something that could've been great, and that you worked your hearts out for.

Hitler did something which was one of the most monstruous thing ever done by mankind, and for the most monstruous reason one can imagine.
Savior cheated a game to make some money.
If you want some very rational explanation of my reasonment, Hitler's death is nothing compare to what he did. Savior will pay 100 times the damage he did, all his life. I don't say it's unfair, it's perfectly normal, but shitting on him because he has fallen when everybody was considering for equally bad reason as a semi god a couple of month ago is a bit indecent.
