The winner is...
+ Show Spoiler +" I will keep my promise so I can win " FLASH- This is your 2nd OSL final in 5 Seasons. How do you feel?▲ I thought to myself today "what was I doing for 5 seasons" (laughs). However I am grateful I got to the finals in 5 seasons. - You won today with a score of 3:1▲ I lost the 2nd set so easily due to Calm's Mutalisk Control. So I had to change my strategy for set 3 and I think thats why I won today. The strategy Hery modified for me really helped me out and we both agreed that it would be for the best. - Your Anti-Mutalisk Control was very good▲ I trained so hard for it. Every game I predicted where the mutalisks would be. I focused everything on my Anti-Mutalisk control every game, and it worked out for the best. - You must be sad that you lost set 2▲ Not really, I just thought to myself that this was a done game and moved on. I focused on what to do for my 3rd game. - Set 3 was won by you lategame management▲ Whenever I practiced, this strategy was something I used alot. However I don't think anyone has seen me play like this in broadcasted games. I'm happy I was able to show everyone that my lategame management is not bad. - There were so many ultralisks!▲ It was very scary. Calm took the 4th gas without a problem so I was at a 3 : 7 disadvantage. So I decided to defend as much as I could and play a management style game. I was able to hold onto my mental state so it didn't breakdown which I believe won me the game. - Are you satisfied with today's performance?▲ I think I was able to show almost everything I could do with today's performance. I made a promise with the audience last time that I will make sure today's games will be entertaining, and I think I've accomplished that. - You had a very heartbreaking time with Individual Leagues for a while▲ It was the first time I've ever experienced that. It hurt so much that I couldn't say anything. I even fell into depression for a while. But today I was able to let loose of all my dark memories so I'm in a good mood. - We heard that you practice with STX Zergs very often▲ Yes, and because of this I was a little nervous. But I kept telling myself to 'play the game wherever my hands move' and it worked out pretty well. - There were even rumors that you practiced with Jaedong.▲ I didn't practice with Jaedong Hyung for today's games. However I did practice with Jaedong Hyung a week ago or so against SKT. I think the journalists wrote the article wrong. For today's game I practiced mostly with my teammates. - Who do you want to face in the finals?▲ I don't think I should leave that up to 'Hope.' Both players are rookies on fire and I think I will play good matches with either one of them. - Your TvZ play is incredibly powerful▲ There are so many good zerg players these days but it seems like there's only a handful of terran players left. I believe this is something Terran players should solve immediately. I wish I can continue to do good so other terran players will find their own way of solving this problem. - Do you think you can win the Finals?▲ I think it's 50:50. There is one player left for me to face so I believe this is still a half-half chance for me. As I said in previous interviews, my goal for this season was to get seed and nothing else. I will not get greedy, but I will try my best to prepare for the finals. - You have to face BeSt in MSL▲ BeSt has a winning record against me. However I still have alot of time and my current condition isn't so bad, so I think if I practice and prepare hard I can win. - We're wondering how your condition got better▲ There really is no real source of how it got better. As I said before, I think for a player to be successful not only must the player be good but he also has to be lucky. I think I'm luckier than usual. In the past 3 weeks, I have played 9 games and won all 9. I really wish I can continue my current state. - Not only you, but your team is also doing great▲ Since my team is doing so good, I think that it's effecting how I play. I think I am also helping the team today by giving everyone a positive reaction. I really want to express my happiness, but we have a game with Samsung Khan and I have to go practice for it soon...... - Words for your fans?▲ It's been a while since my appearance at a Final, and I couldn't do it without the most important people; my fans. No matter what everyone said to me, you guys are the ones who believed in me and I will win this league so I can give my gift to you. I am doing the best I can to keep my promise so keep watching me. Not only my fans but my parents were also a big support for me. I wish a happy new year for my parents, and for my parents I will try and win this league too. - Goals of 2010?▲ I won both at the last day of 2009 and the first day of 2010, and I wish this can be my greatest year ever. My goal is to win the "Best Player Award." I will try my best to deny Jaedong Hyung from getting that title 3 years in a row. I will do my best to catch up to Jaedong Hyung's Career.

It make sense because they both had a TvZ on Tornado.
But it's funny that both Flash and Sea played essentially the same strat and both won.

so flash practised with jaedong against s2? wtf? that contradicts what we read last time about how he didn't practise at all for s2..
also.. isn't that a little overkill?

He never said he didn't practice at all, I think he said he practice or prepare more for the OSL.

Well, at least Calm made Flash work for the wins. Congrats Flash... *sniff* ... Calm

he lost set two because of "calm's mutalisk control". i remember everyone saying in the LR thread how shitty calm's muta control was.

is a bit unsettling unless Flash is being extremely modest (aka lying). There's no way he has a 50% chance to lose a bo5 to movie/shine.

How can someone not like Flash, he is such a great guy.
Nevertheless, my heart belongs to JD
Thanks for the translation, much appreciated.

Good to see that there are no hard feelings between Jaedong and Flash.
|
Flash is so modest. He hasn't lost a game or series in forever and he is just shrugging it off. 50% is hilarious. Maybe he figures that Movie would be him? I know Shine is playing well, but after taking out calm and jaedong with ease, Shine would really have to show something special.

Ah... I sound like such a noob, but can someone please explain what a "hyung" is?
(I tried searching, but too many unrelated topics came up)

as somebody earlier in the thread said, hyung is what you add on to the name of a male that is older than you as a sign of respect in Korea.
|

Though that's not all there's to it afaik. There has to be some personal relationship too, because pretty much everyone in the Starcraft Pro Scene is older than Flash, yet he doesn't always use the term "hyung". Only when he's talking about people he's close with I think.

Or perhaps the 'hyung' isn't always kept in the translation?
And yeah, I think Flash is being polite with the 50:50 thing. He knows as well as any of us that he's the favourite for this OSL.
|
what does flash mean when he says "3 : 7 disadvantage" ?
|
Thanks for the translation!
Flash is so modest. A "modest monster". I agree, there is 50% of chance of a clean sweep. Unless they put twice HBR which is quite tough for TvP and for TvZ.
Anyway, go Flash!!!
|
On January 02 2010 02:36 7mk wrote: what does flash mean when he says "3 : 7 disadvantage" ?
they were his odds. translates into 30% coming out alive.
but the 50:50 thing i think flash meant he might drop[ a game. so 50% chane of 3-0, 37.5% 3-1, 12.5% 3-2. flash couldnt lose this osl

For EX, Flash calls both Stork and Jaedong Hyung However he still calls bisu "Kim Taek Yong Sunsu (player)" because he doesn't know Bisu personally.

Yes, Koreans have a tendency to use this expression alot. And about the 50% chance thing. Flash believes he has a 50% chance to WIN the OSL (ie a Coinflip).
Alot of you guys are probably saying he's lying or he's just being modest, but the guy is dead serious. If you read the next part he firmly says he doesn't want to be greedy and fall over. As a flash fanbase you guys should know this (hell even as a KT Fanbase)! All of you should know if flash trips once he rolls down until the base of the mountain. This has always been an issue for Flash for like 5 seasons of OSL
Don't say "well hez on fire dis shudn't aply lawl." He's being as careful as possible so he doesn't repeat that whole shit again. Both his opponents are rookies, and even though rookies lack experience flash has always said "nothing is scarier than a rising star." Hell even Flash himself was a rookie

Basically hyung technically means older brother and its used only when you are a male and know an older male personally. It's more of a friendly honorific if that makes any sense >.<
Hyung, noona, oppa, unni are all the same kind of friendly honorific but used depending on your sex and the sex of the older person.

About hyung
From: Michael Kang, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-kang/the-intricacies-of-transl_b_46397.html
The first and only time I will ever reference the Huffington Post
The most heartbreaking thing that we couldn't translate though was the word "Hyung." There is no English equivalent which I think says a lot about American society. There is so much meaning in "Hyung" and yet it can't be communicated in English. Literally the word means "older brother." But it is a term of respect that Korean men say to older men whom they consider close, like a mentor. You're "Hyung" is someone you would do anything for if they asked. You would never question your "Hyung." If your "Hyung" was in trouble, you'd be right there. It denotes true loyalty and respect. Koreans don't use the word lightly. In the movie, it's not translated well at all. Sometimes we used "Boss" which is too formal. Other times, we replaced it with the character's name, but that is way too disrespectful in Korean because of its informality. You would only call someone who is your junior or subordinate by their first name.
Take in mind that Flash is very young and therefore probably uses the word with at least a little less reverence.

as much as i respect flash' mentality going into the finals this looks like it will be just as onesided as the last OSL finals..............................
about the hyung thing, what you all said is basically right, so dont try to read too much into it, americans will never fully understand it because their culture is different from ours. Same applies to alot of other things, so dont get tangled up with the subtleties of certain words or phrases, as you will never fully grasp their meanings, not cuz youre dumb or ignorant, that's just the way it is. Same reasons for why koreans will never understand why american football players get payed hundreds of millions of dollars playing such a brutish and boring sport

Flash and Jaedong's rivalry reminds me of DBZ. Jaedong is all HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BACK TO BACK OSL FINALSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS and then he dominates for a while... and then Flash is like ok well time to go SUPER SAIYANNNNNNNN and now he's dominating. I wonder who is Goku is who is Vegeta (probably Flash and Jaedong respectively).

Jaedong's def Goku. He doesn't really pay attention to the other gamers and just thinks he's a badass. Flash is the one brooding on the side, plotting his eventual domination, and jealous of all that GOku/JD has accomplished. Plus he's shorter.

TY for interview, can't wait for the finals, I hope he plays against Movie.

great interview, although he can barely hide his lying due to political correctness when saying "the chances for me to win the finals are about 50%" and "there´s no specific reason for my recent surge". he knows he´s close to winning his 2nd osl title and he knows his improved form is because his teammates stopped to fucking suck around. he doesnt carry the weight of being a one-man-army/team anymore.
btw did u notice how he pretty much characterized jaedong as both his idol (in terms of career) and his rival?
lets cross both fingers for a flash vs jd msl finals!

Thanks for the interview. It was a really good series IMO. Calm gave Flash the best run for his money that I could have hoped for really. I hope Shine loses to Movie so that Flash will have a challenge. His TvP is his weakest MU and I really don't think Shine will be able to perform as well as Calm did. I'm predicting Calm over Shine in the 3rd/4th place match.
EDIT: Needless to say, the other semifinal series will be incredible. Shine has shown he has everything it takes to beat pretty much any Protoss and Movie has been crushing folks like nobody's business.
