Brood War Blue Screen

BlueShift United States334 Posts February 04 2004 08:01 GMT #1 Whenever I run BW it gives Blue Screens of Death. It'll run for about thirty seconds then the graphics will get messed up (like shapes and colors will apear where they shouldn't), then BAM! Blue screen and I gotta restart. I've reinstalled twice to no avail. Also I can't run the game from the auto run window (the window that pops up when you put the disk in) because whenever I try my PC just crashes. Does anyone here have any idea what I could do? I'm running: MS Windows XP pro Athalon 1.2 GHZ 512 MB sd ram Radeon 7000 GFX card HELP?

I suppose bw wasnt always like this. 2. Update your graphic drivers. 3. Update every other driver. 4. Run a virus scan. And there is also the windows factor, which basicly is that you'll have to reinstall OS every now and then.

SillyCat United States960 Posts February 04 2004 08:10 GMT #4 I had the same problem, but it had to do with my cd rom drive spinning down.( I had music on....so now I just turn it off.) So try turning your music off when you play.

collegeBored United States1524 Posts February 04 2004 08:17 GMT #5 i had that problem but not that often, my comp would just randomly get bsod and reboot. happened in sc more often than during other stuff. from what online forums said it might be memory conflict (if u have 2 or more dimms) or driver conflict. so roll back whatever drivers u installed in the past few days.

MannerKiss United States2398 Posts February 04 2004 08:55 GMT #6 I had that, I finally got so fed up with it, I made my comp go back to the way it was about 2 weeks before it started happening, and Downloaded everything I downloaded again, installed them, then waited untill bw Screwed up, then didnt install the program right before, and bw worked fine.

BlueShift United States334 Posts February 04 2004 10:22 GMT #7 Thanks for the advice guys. After updating drivers with no results I tried a system restore coupled with another re-install. So far it hasn't crashed yet after watching a rep so I hope it's fine. But I probobly should reinstall windows soon if anything, I just need to find a cheap way to back up gigs of files before i do it. Thanks again.

collegeBored United States1524 Posts February 04 2004 13:56 GMT #9 btw for future references dont do automatic updates from microsoft. check each update before installing it. sometimes new drivers screw up your comp.
