Spoiler Alert for Proleague R2 Week 1!
+ Show Spoiler +Jaedong’s previous records have been beaten.‘The Ultimate Weapon’ Lee Young Ho (KT) achieved an amazing feat of 100 wins in Proleague. On the 6th, amidst the first week of Proleague 09-10 R2, Flash has beaten Savior from CJ with amazing management that didn’t allow the Zerg to expand. Before his game against Savior, Flash had a record of 99 wins and 39 losses (71.7%) and has now achieved 100 Proleague wins, along with ‘the Hero’ Reach, and ‘the Tyrant’ Jaedong. Flash’s achievement is not an ordinary achievement. He set the record as the youngest person, the shortest duration, and the least number of games. The record for the youngest person to achieve 100 wins was done set by Jaedong, with 19 years 4 months and 23 days. However, Flash has achieved 100 wins at the age of 17 years, 5 months and 1 day, and therefore beat Jaedong’s record by roughly 2 years. In addition, Flash also set the record for the shortest duration. The previous record was also set by Jaedong, with 3 years 1 month and 2 days, but Flash beat it with 2 years 6 months and 14 days, surpassing Jaedong’s record by more than 6 months. Finally, Flash set the record for the least number of games, and achieved an unprecedented record. Jaedong’s record was set at 143 games, while Flash took 139 games to achieve 100 games, beating Jaedong by 4 games.

Flash has become ridiculous. I expect him to win at least one league this season...

While all the record-keeping might be overboard, it's still a damn impressive summary of Flash's Proleague performance.
First Terran to get 100 wins, with a higher win % than anyone else, in a shorter timespan than anyone else, at a younger age than anyone else.
The kid isn't even 18 yet.

Flash really deserves more individual titles. This is so cool, the BEST pro league player of all time!
Funny that this is a result of his team relying on him so much in the past and therefore damaging his individual league results.

In other news, Reach holds onto his record of "oldest player to achieve 100 wins..."

Congratulations to Flash
Bisu should be the next. He needs 4 more games to achieve PL 100 wins (including 2v2) IIRC. So does Sea. Stork needs 5 more and Calm needs 8 more. Possibly We're gonna have a bunch of 100-win PL warriors in this round.
|
Those aren't really fair. Most of these give some approximation of skill, whether it be him doing it with a better winrate (Less games to each 100), doing it faster (obviously the duration one) or doing it at, well, a less mature age.

I hope NaDa doesn't end up waiting another 2 years before ever playing in PL again :/

Flash soo good! I really wish we can see some JD vs Flash action in the end of any of the leagues this season.

Great Flash! Keep it going! Also.. NaDa please also go for 100

Jaedong and Flash own proleague .

everyone with 90+ wins should really just work hard to get that 100. then they can retire happily
|
Impressive. I do however think that Reach's 100 wins was far more epic, considering the majority of his games were played when PL wasn't on 4-5 times a week. :q Will be many players to break 100 wins the coming year most probably, due to the format.

Wow, not even 18 yet so he's not supposed to drink to celebrate.

If Flash can only get some more individual titles then he will edge out JD as GOAT IMO.

i had to lol
flash is good, and i root for him no doubt, but c'mon, he's terran. terran is the easiest race to be consistent with... in my humble opinion.
edit: what i mean is.. is that if you're good as terran, it's hard for people of a lower level than you to beat you. if you're good with zerg, well, still some no name has a chance.

As evidenced by all the other 70% winrate terrans.

I love all these translations... Flash is on such a roll lately, I really want to see how far he can go. I wish we would see more experimentation from him but I guess that's just not his style.

One thing to keep in mind is that there's a lot more proleague games per week today than in the past. So it's easier for currently active players to rack up records such as these, especially with regards to "shortest DURATION", etc.

Flash for first player to get 200 pl wins

Er what?

The reason he wins so much is that he's so mechanical, uses the same builds over and over simply because they're the safest and win the most.
He's also boring to watch because he often sits in his base, deflects attempts at making the game interesting, then rolls over the other player with a huge ball of units.
Yeah, I've always disliked Flash alot. Sure he's good and all, but he's not a fun or innovative player. He just uses the strategies that win the most, he admitted that himself. And yes, I realize every player does this, but Flash is so extreme in this aspect. And I think that's really cheap.

Flash is more innovative than Boxer. And his mechanics are by far the weakest part of his play.

Flash is one of the most innovative terrans in a long time. Just because what he does isn't super flashy and obvious doesn't mean he hasn't revolutionized the way terrans play the game. He most certainly has. Iloveoov was "boring" too.
Also Flash has weak mechanics and multitask compared to other players. That isn't his strength, so I'm not sure what you're saying really.
|
Exactly which terrans have superior mechanics and multitasking compared to Flash, and how does it show?
|
The problem with a record based on number of PL wins is that PL format allows a lot more games nowadays. Also, Flash is on a team that almost ALWAYS plays him in ace. Other teams aren't like that. KHAN was so deep for many seasons. Same with SKT. Flash and JD have the advantage in that they were on teams of total scrubs and were constantly sent out. Then again, Flash's win % is still very VERY high. So he would have done it anyway. It's just the fact he did it so fast has a lot to do with how often his team sends him out.

Flash was the only Terran who could consistently win on Medusa and Katrina. Flash has shown time and time again that he is basically immune to map imbalances.
I don't think I could bear to make a comparison between Flash and Boxer. They're both really influential players. The difference is Flash is like 16 years old and he is only starting to tear things up.
I imagine within the next 3 years we're going to see this guy explode and just run everyone over. Assuming, of course, that Starcraft II doesn't come out and replace Starcraft.
I think why people don't realize Flash's innovation is because it's more strategical than tactical. Flash has REALLY SOLID BUILDS and amazing game sense, whereas players like Fantasy tend to employ strategies that have an obvious flair to them. Flash is like oov: he doesn't try to throw in new units here and there or demonstrate amazing micro, he just knows how to read his opponents and force them to play HIS game.
It takes a real genius to make someone play the way YOU want them to. But that's exactly what Flash is capable of, and he's shown that he can do it time and time again.

Although it's his weakest matchup right now he is still amazing at it. And as I said in my previous post, he is somehow immune to TvP map imbalances.
And thus we have maps as Flashtrina, a map which normally means "2base carriers gg," but instead turns into "double armory goliaths gg."

You and many other people are saying that, and I would agree, nowadays there are much more games played than it the past. BUT Flash isn't just the man who got 100 wins fastest, he is also the man who needed the least amount of games to do so.
The current format of PL allows for more games in shorter time which makes the "fastest" record much easier, but it also makes the "least amount of games" much harder. Programer like Flash has much less time to prepare for games then programers had in the past. He has to play over and over again, prepare for many maps, many opponents, who often try some allinish snipe build against him and so on...
The two record separate are good, but when one person holds them both...it just makes me sit with open mouth and thinking what the-...?

I do however think that Reach's 100 wins was far more epic, considering the majority of his games were played when PL wasn't on 4-5 times a week. :q Will be many players to break 100 wins the coming year most probably, due to the format. even still, flash won it in fewer games played, so the fact that PL wasn't on 4-5 times a week is irrelevant It IS relevant. If you're on a streak, you can rack up a lot more wins in the new format than you could previously, when there was much more time between games. Flash would be able to get 2-3 times the amount of wins in the same time Reach would when he got most of his wins due to the format. If you'd count WL (which I don't know if they do or not), it would be even easier to rack up even more wins. It would've been damn near impossible to have achieved Flash's ratio of wins/losses back when Reach got the majority of his wins, since you'd have to be consistent for 2-3 times the amount of time.
Flash's win/loss-ratio is extremely impressive, but he largely owes it to the current format, which has seen a lot of currently good players gaining many many wins. Just look at Calm, having more PL wins than Nal_Ra and Boxer combined (26 of his 91 PL wins in 2009 alone) despite them being around for about 6 years longer.

Yeah, I've always disliked Flash alot. Sure he's good and all, but he's not a fun or innovative player. He just uses the strategies that win the most, he admitted that himself. And yes, I realize every player does this, but Flash is so extreme in this aspect. And I think that's really cheap.
if you ever become a progamer and only play to lose, i'll start taking your post seriously.

I don't know where this 'Terran is the easiest race to be consistent with' nonsense is coming from.
Flash is consistent. Terran players in general are not. How about the 2nd best Terran player, Fantasy? He wouldn't just drop games to random Zergs below his skill level, right? I mean, he's Terran, and Terran always win against weaker players.
The reason Flash is so consistent is because of his amazing game sense. Flash explained it when he was asked what the difference between his style and Fantasy's is.
Players like Fantasy go into a game with a bunch of plans. If my opponent does X, respond with Y. They might go in ready to deal with 10 or 20 different situations. But if something happens that isn't in any of those plans, they fall apart.
Flash goes into a game with one general strategy, and then just plays it by ear and adapts on the fly according to what his opponent does. It's a game sense that can't be duplicated just by studying him.

I want to see a Jaedong vs Flash league finals. Jaedong vs Bisu no longer appeals to me.
Edit: That is, supposing that Flash won't 14 cc and lose to two hatch mutas 3 times in a row.

Can you link me the interview or chatlogs where flash has said that hes not an innovative player? iirc he said hes going to innovate tvp again lol And because flash wins the most hes the most 'extreme' in this aspect?

This post itself clearly shows that you have no idea how terran works or how flash plays
If you're going to hate on flash, atleast try to watch what he actually does instead of skimming through his youtube games.
If you still can't comprehend his plays after that, then I am sorry Instead let me recommend you some games by Leta to fulfill your feeble ADHD mind
