GomTV's Averatec-Intel Classic Season 2 is scheduled to run for 18 weeks beginning Sep.21st 2008. Unlike most of the other StarCraft leagues, there will be no preliminary matches, as all matches are considered part of the tournament-proper.
In the season 1 Grand Finals of the GSL, we saw Jaedong 3-0 Flash in a dominating fashion. Jaedong took full advantage of mutaling's mobility to humiliate Flash in the first two games, and then finished him off in game 3 by rushing ultra and cloning clouds of scourge into Flash's poorly defended vessels. Will Jaedong be able to repeat last season's performance? In a field of 180 players, it's hard to say, but I'll try to keep this up-to-date so you'll know even if you can't watch the games live.
If you'd like to watch the games with commentary by lilsusie and Tasteless, please visit the official page for the vods as they're released.
GOMTV'S AVERATEC-INTEL CLASSIC SEASON 2 RESULTS AND STANDINGS
"There are 32 groups, each group has one seeded player in it with the 32 seeds determined by KeSPA rankings. The players in each group play it out in a Bo3 elimination tournament until the winner of each group plays against the group seed." -Daigomi

The Players
Thanks to Pachi for the full player's list! Bolded names are seeds. Special thanks goes to Origami for figuring out who beat who in the early rounds of the tournament!
Since lilsusie is collecting all her GOMtv Classic's weekly winner interviews in her own thread, I'm going to stop linking to every single interview and only link to the most recent interviews (click the "TLPD"-looking links above for the interviews). Visit lilsusie's thread if you're curious about earlier week's interviews.
ToSsGirL vs Modern[fOu] Game 2 on Andromeda. There are few moments that more clearly demonstrate you've underestimated your opponent than when SCVs are killing two of your hatcheries and you can't do squat about it.
Hwasin vs EffOrt Game 1 on Chupung-Ryeong. On a map that makes it difficult to manufacture effective flanks, both Hwasin and EffOrt pull off some sexy ones.
Bisu vs HoeJJa[S.G] Game 2 on Medusa. Bisu revs his multitask-engine into overdrive. The observer was struggling to keep up with all the gosu. If you're a Bisu fan, definitely watch this game.
sKyHigh vs Bisu Game 2 on Destination. Skyhigh had the advantage briefly in this game, but Bisu took him on a tour of Destination anyway, dismantling the CJ terran in an impressive fashion.
JangBi vs free[gm] game 1 on Medusa. Free could've-- should've-- won this game. A very nice example of how to climb back into a game when your opponent wants to sit on his lead.

Oh thanks, I had seen that before but totally forgot about it ^^
Correct me where I'm wrong but I don't think Boxer can be in the round of 64 already.
There are 32 seeds, 16 on each side of the bracket. So when each seed plays the winner of his group, there will be 64 people left in the tournament.

You're right and wrong. Because of the structure of the tournament there's 2 rounds of 64. Should I call them Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, etc, to avoid confusion?

I think the "Round of 96" might be the best thing to call it.
That's a horrible idea... Then I'd have to call the round of 128 "the round of 160" and the round of 256 with all those byes "the round of 180." I'll just use Gom's naming conventions, I think.

Looks good. Just so that you know, I didn't do anything except do the news write-ups. Also, it would be very nice if you could strike-out the names of the players that have fallen out so far, once you start adding the results.
The Mind vs Baby game is no longer being broadcasted. It's been replaced by Calm vs Lomo. I guess they thought a TvT wouldn't be as interesting as a TvZ.

I guess they were the non-televised games?
edit: also what is up with RO64R1 and RO64R2?
In the round of 256, there were only actually 180 players, give or take a few I think, that were there, but you cannot have a round of 180, so lots of players got by's. I don't really know what you mean by your edit since last sunday was the RO64 R1 day, and next sunday is the RO64 R2 day.
Edit: 180 players because a few teams did not participate in it (eStro, OGN, MBC) so there weren't 256 pro's to pick from.
There are 2 rounds of 64 because of the structure of the tournament. The 32 seeds don't join the tourney 'til the second round of 64 (when there are 32 non-seeds remaining).
And, yes, I don't know the results of the non-broadcast games yet, but by looking at the Ro64.R2 bracket, I can figure out who got eliminated during the first three rounds. I've sent lilsusie and tasteless PMs requesting more detailed info on the non-broadcast games but I've yet to receive any response. Plz be patient while I try to fill in the holes. Thanks.
There is one mistake there that caught my attention tough. That Shine guy Jangbi is playing is actually a Zerg named Shine[kal] who is in his group in the brackets and apparently was not eliminated yet. That Terran you renamed to OGNs Shine was named right before, he is sea.Shine from KTF and he is eliminated. OGN Shine can't be playing this right?
EDIT: Are you sure they won't broadcast any other games? Or you just extracted them from the brackets and is waiting for the games schedule?
As far as I'm aware, they're broadcasting every sunday, and only on sunday. They may decide to change things and broadcast more games in the future, but so far they've only announced broadcast of the games I've marked as scheduled for broadcast. Here's the page where they're doing the announcing. I'll update this thread as their announcements change.

Probably not, becuase there's a decent number of tl.net members that can probably go to the games. last season they had someone else step in for tasteless to english cast- i'm guessing that's what they're going to do again this season.

We all missed it. BUT. DaezanG beat By.Snow in the round of 128, so he was beaten by one of the two other non-seeds of Group 10... and since zergjoaa[gsp] is the only one of those two options still in the tourney, my strong guess is DaezanG was eliminated by zergjoaa[gsp] in the round of 64.R1, and Oops was eliminated by zergjoaa[gsp] in the round of 128.

Nearly all the matches in the Ro64.R2 will be broadcast, that is ~8 per week. However, there is no english version of the broadcast that koreans are continuing to do on tuesday.
Heres the tuesday matches so far (Probably contains spoilers): Classic Ro64.R2 (Week 1.5)
my blood pressure is gonna be running high next weekend ... Tempest is an uncomfortably good opponent (relative to the rest of the non-seeded players) for XellOs to draw this early in the tournament.

Either that, or Effort has been showing some really freaking good games ><;;
The RO64.R2 Day 3.5 game broadcast is over, but you can view the results and find instructions on how to watch them in this thread.
Here's the total numbers for each team so far advancing to the round of 32, with the remaining number in the round of 64 in parenthesis. + Show Spoiler [totals] +
CJ already has 7 of the 32 players in the RO32, and could have as many as 9 (much plays vs by.velocity Sunday, so I just counted it as 1 more CJ advanced and 1 eliminated).
these games against free are gonna be sAviOr's first major test since Blizzcon ... I'm hesitant to say that I think he can take him after watching free dismantle Jaedong in the MSL, but I'll be pulling for him nevertheless.
Assuming BeSt gets by.hero he'll be playing the winner of EffOrt/Kwanro in the Ro16 - possible early exit? I hope one of the two CJ Zergs can knock him off.
The vods for the November 4th broadcast are up on the Korean site now, here's the link to the BackHo vs Last[fOu] games (you can navigate to the other matches with the arrow thing).
What makes you guys think they aren't broadcasting all of the round of 32? Based on how much time is left in the season (~12 weeks), I'm pretty sure every match is broadcast from here on out.
Assuming they either show both semis the same week or they go with 4 RO16 matches per week, they'd have enough time to broadcast everything. Alternatively the number of weeks could be off by a week, in which case they can easily show everything with a week for each semi and only 2 RO16 matches a week.

Bold predictions.
I will go: Best > by.hero (2:0) Though not a PvZ specialist Best should dismantle noname Zerg that by.hero is.
Forgg > SOo (2:0) Can't imagine Forgg losing. Forgg looks too strong for SOo
Kwanro < Effort (1:2) This is ZvZ so anything can happen especially that these two are in the same team. But saying that Effort showed great play in the proleague while Kwanro had only one appearence in the proleague and he lost it.
Savior < Free (1:2) Savior has been performing quite well recently but he is yet to be tested. Free has been showing great play recently and he's been on fire. Having said that, this takes place only a day after Free played Bisu in the semis and so he must have been practicing only his vP lately. This gives savior a bit of an edge.
yea i admit that i only picked savior to beat free cuz free was only practicing for msl semifinals, and savior was free to do 24/7 zvp. I do think that Free is the better player though.
And savior is out... But he showed some really great play. Also losing to Free these day is not that bad given how Free has been performing lately. And now we can have an epic rematch Jaedong against Free in Round of 16 (given that Jaedong beats Tempest of course).

It says here and in the live thread results that he won 2-1, but the GomTV bracket says he lost (it also says that Effort lost)... Then I searched through the live thread report and it says that Best won... But I just finished watching Savior's game and the final results said Best lost 1-2 and Susie and Tasteless confirmed it... I'm confused...

He meant when a recap they talk about the other games. Like how savior's match was last of the night after best's match, so they'd summarise the results at the end.
usually I support the protosses when neutral to me players play, coz I consider that race the most fun to watch, however seeing that until now there are 7 protoss, 4 terrans and 1 zerg, next week I ll be an anti-protoss fan. Its not like I dislike PvP or smth but lately its just too much
p.s. However I think at least 2 more protosses will advance, if not 3
It's a shame that OGN and MBC had to boycott the Classic; the Ro16 could have really used some of their Terrans and Zergs. You'd have to think that Sea/Leta/Yarnc/Lux would have had an excellent shot to get in there over a few of the more mediocre Protoss players that are still alive (I'm looking at you Rock/SoO}. I mention Luxury because he got screwed by being on OGN when the tournament started, then got traded to KTF like three days later. Even Light/type-b/RuBy/Saint could have made a push for the Ro16 and would have made for a more interesting racial balance instead of a repeat of the MSL.
SHIT, RO8 can be only protoss :/ Only 2 PvP mirrors in ro16 lucky protoss scums, I would like to see more pvp mirrors in ro16 so more p's get eliminated for sure.
the classic has turned into the tournament where I root for anyone who isn't protoss from now on. I've seen enough of Stork, JangBi, Kal, free, Tempest, and Bisu from the MSL.
SHIT, RO8 can be only protoss :/ Only 2 PvP mirrors in ro16 lucky protoss scums, I would like to see more pvp mirrors in ro16 so more p's get eliminated for sure.
On the other hand if all protoss lose in non-mirrors then there will be only 2 protoss in the round of 8 This is highly unlikely though... sigh...
Seriously, as much as I like protoss this is just way too much. Wherever I look there are Protoss. How can one not get sick? And even more protoss are streaming into the proleague like Tazza, Stats or HakSoo. Who are those people? Why do they want me to stop watching starcraft? We need more T a Z please!
Looking at the bracket only Flash has relatively easy match (if you dare to eliminate Flash Rock I will come for you!). There is a chance that SkyHigh will also get through. I give less chance to Mind as Kal is playing really well lately and no chance to pepe and HoeJJa.. It is hard to judge on Effort vs Best but there is also hope there as Best is not as good in PvZ as in the rest of his match-ups.

Not all 8. Flash has probably a 80% chance of owning Rock. Why have no faith in KTF Flash...
Because the maps suck.
More specifically, Neo Requiem makes a good proleague map(because it leads to interesting games), but a bad individual league map, because it's so anti-one-race(terran in this case). God knows why they decided to have both NR and Medusa in the Ro16.
That said, I still think Flash is going to win against Rock, but I'm kinda nervous.

I'd say Flash winning is about 95% sure. Rock's only real trick is his carriers and Flash just happens to be the only player who is absolutely immune to carriers.

I agree with this man As much as I am a rabid Flashru fanboy, the maps are just brutal Sure Flash was the only terran who took a shit on protoss faces by being the only terran to have 6 wins on Katrina, but this is different...
Maps suck so badly for terran, forGG plz just hold out for a better league. Kal you can do it, this is your league, except not since you suck against protoss. Uhh..ok Mind! Well the maps suck so bad for you too.

Yeah, Much played poorly, but when I was watching it you coulda mistook the zerg play as Jaedong in season 1. This new guy is going to do more damage than people think -- I'd put money on it.
As long as Neo Requiem and Medusa are being used there is no hope for Terran. I just hope that Flash will manage to take down Rock despite that and that for Ro8 more balanced maps will be chosen. I guess Flash is kind of lucky that he doesn't have to play Best/JangBi/Bisu in Ro16...

Rock? Carriers? He has the worst carrier micro ever. No, I'll rephrase. He doesn't micro his carriers at all. One of the things people criticize him about most is that he loses carriers too easily because he doesn't care about them. Rock's only real trick is bumping his head into the enemy's wall-in hoping it will crack open.
is pepe good at TvP? I mean his record in tlpd is complete garbage, but from what I hear about him I understand his TvZ, and TvT are good and that he has excellent micro and such, but these characterstics remind of type of terran like casy and boxer, and others who arent so great at TvP for one reason or another. Well looks hope pepe puts on a good show or atleast not get utterly slaughtered like Jangbi vs Nada all star game.

HoeJJa, the last zerg hope? Maybe I'd be more comfortable saying that a year from now. What I do hope is that he gives Bisu close games. Maybe even stealing a game from him.

he's probably talking about the interviews posted on the official website. You have to scroll down to see them (at least with my resolution 1024x768), but people still complain about spoilers because they put the interviews up 1-2 days after they show the games live.
It's on the front page of gomtv.net, and if you click on videos, they post the interviews in the list before the actual game videos so you have to scroll past them before you can click on the games.
I understand that this is pretty much completely irrelevant at this point, but I wanted to bring it up for completions sake of all the starting matches.
I was browsing the gomtv.com section for this tourney and stumbled into a listing of all the group winners.
This shows all 16 groups and the winners for each match involved. Also explains a little about how the format worked, since it was hard to find a good explanation sometimes.
As a very quick and brief explanation, a player highlighted in pink means they made it to the RO 128. Being highlighted in yellow means they made it to RO 64, and being in blue means they made it to RO 64 Round 2 where they played against the group seed based on which side they were on. After which the A-Side and B-Side winners played each other.
I don't know the language personally, but a little work with TLPD and comparing to the format images in the OP can fill in almost every hole about exactly who beat who in the RO 256/128/64 since we never really found that out for the non-broadcasted ones.
I transcribed about 3.5 groups out of the 16 before I had to go, but this is what I got so far:
A couple of the groups have one or two small errors like highlighting the wrong colors. Group 2 - A shows 815 as having passed the RO 256 when he didn't even play in it.
Cool! I can't read korean so if you can finish up what you're doing I'll plug the info into the OP sometime this week and give you credit for the work. Thanks :D
Finished the rest of the groups, but there are three matches toward the end of the list that didn't show a winner so the blanks are just filled with ???.
