Well, I guess this will be another entry on my "Dumb website usage annoyances and how to fix them" series.
Last year, Youtube changed their site in how they display the channels you are subscribed to. Before, if you had an account and logged in to youtube.com, it would simply display the videos that were uploaded by your subscribed channels. But then, I think in December, they changed it to include a mode where it included recommend videos, under the title "Recommended for you because you watched *insert videos you've previously watched here*", and then listing the video they recommend you. And what's worse, they set that mode as the DEFAULT. And what's worse, they made you click 2 links to get it back to your normal mode - You had to click "My Subscriptions" and then "Uploads only" because "My Subscriptions" default was that it included everything your subscribed channel did. And I did not care for everything my channels subscribed to, favorited, commented on, etc. And it did not save the mode you were last in.
I was highly annoyed by this change, and it was frustrating that I had to type in something like /my subscriptions/u every time I wanted to go on Youtube because the default was fucking stupid. But THANKFULLY, I think they realized how stupid this was, and then set it so that it remembered what mode you preferred.
However, it seems as though there's either a glitch in youtube's system, or they decided to revert back to stupidity, and now it has defaulted back to "What to watch". Thankfully, since then, I have discovered the usefulness of the Firefox Add-on "Greasemonkey", which you can add to Firefox here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/
Greasemonkey lets users create scripts that modify how you use some sites. Ever had an annoyance using a site? Chances are, you aren't the only one that has been annoyed. And if you're lucky, someone good at modifying scripts was one of those, and they made a script that you could use on Greasemonkey. You can find and search for them here: http://userscripts.org/
And what do you know, turns out I'm not the only one that's highly annoyed by Youtube's default layout. So someone made a script that automatically redirects youtube.com's default layout to youtube.com/feed/subscriptions. Which you can find here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/155586
Install Greasemonkey, and install the script, and then try going to youtube.com. Vwala, gone are the dumb recommendations, and back to only seeing your subscribed channel's subscriptions.
Heck, there were even some that were developed specifically for Team Liquid, which you can find here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=197313 I personally like using the Banned User Link script. It makes searching for posts that got users banned (which is highly entertaining) much easier.
Here are some other Scripts I use:
Automatically loads adf.ly links to the link they redirect to: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/154858
Taking out that window that pops up that says "Are you sure you want to navigate away from the page?" that pops up on some pages when you want to navigate away from it: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/98260
Stop Google from tracking and redirecting your search links: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/125473

When I sign on YT I just click "my subscriptions" under "what to watch" and it'll show me only the video's. how important do you think your time is that when you watch largely pointless video's on YT you think the 0.6 seconds it takes to re-load the page is so annoying that you have to rant about it?
I've also found some interesting things on what to watch that I wouldn't have searched for otherwise. I've found some interesting music ect. that I hadn't heard/seen before. I guess I don't have a problem with what you are doing but introducing you to new things for 1-5 seconds is reverting back to stupidity? I think you are the one with a problem. Sorry.

It's pointless tediousness that shouldn't be there in the first place. If I want to find stuff that I haven't heard/seen before, then I'll actively search for it by pushing "What to watch". Youtube shouldn't be forcing "What to watch" as the default. My issue isn't the fact that "What to watch" exists. Only that it's the default and youtube even wont give you the option to set "My Subscriptions" and "Uploads Only" as the default.
And you'd be wrong if you think I'm the one with the problem. This script alone has been installed by at least 2,280 people, and there are plenty of other scripts/add-ons just like it that have also been installed by thousands of people.
There are also plenty of people that are annoyed by it but either don't know how to fix it or don't even know that they can. There are also those who don't care enough to actively search for a fix, but would if someone presented a way to fix it to them. This blog entry is mostly for those people in this paragraph.
Not to mention it even makes sense mathematically. Those .6 and 1-5 seconds add up. The 1-2 minutes it'll take for you to install this script will save you time in the long run, and in this case, the "not so very long" run as well. Since you're most likely going to load the youtube page more than 200 more times in the remainder of your lifetime.
Though I don't mind people who might disagree. I like a discussion.

I think a random recommendation is far more likely to be "largely pointless" than a new video from a channel you have intentionally subscribed to.

Just set a favourite to go to your subscriptions channel... Doesnt everyone use their favourites bar to instantly go to any websites they use often?

Not for me, because my bookmarks tab has a lot of stuff in it, usually just for future reference, so it's a lot to manage. I just go to websites depending on what I'm feeling at the moment. Not to mention with search history, I can just type in part of the url and my browser'll most likely know where to go.
I normally go to youtube via the search engine installed on my browser bar. It's usually the search engine that's on my default, so I just have to push one button. As opposed to going to bookmarks and clicking youtube, which would be 2 clicks.
Also, I type fast.

Really going off on a tangent now, but your bookmark situation can be alleviated with the keyword feature in FF, such that typing in 'yt' could lead you directly to the bookmarked subscription youtube page, without ever needing to browse your bookmarks folder.

Typing in "yt" where? If it's the browser, simply just typing in "y" already brings up youtube as the first choice in the search history, so y and enter is already faster. And my cursor might already be closer to the right side of the screen, and the search engine is usually on the youtube search, so I could also still just click search.
Though I may want to learn that keyword feature at a future date, so how can I set it to that?

Your usage of "y" just points you to the most common site for you starting on y, while having a keyword can let you pick exactly which site you want it to point to, so instead of it pointing to youtube.com, it can point you directly to the subscription page.

I turned off youtube tracking my watched videos, so all the recommended videos are always "FAIL COMPILATIONS MONTH YEAR" and "EPIC GIRL FAILS" and "TRUCK ACCIDENTS"
Real idiocracy style recommendations.
