I'd like to note that his IP actually does match other TL accounts. NrGMonk is still an inexperienced banling and didn't really use the full IP matching functionality we have.

The mods have a decent idea of who it is, and are discussing whether or not to reveal this information. It's likely we'll make a statement on the entire situation (not just the drama itself, but also the way it was handled) in the coming days.

Sigh. Now trying to figure out the spanish guy who was forced to move to Russia because he was almost lynched for the last time he outed someone as a hacker is slightly more boring than before. =/

Well this give me hope at least. The way the whole drama unfolded was suboptimal. Hopefully in the future we can establish some kind of protocol for similar kind of incident. Even though I personally find some parts of Spades play suspicious, he shouldnt have to go through this kind of crap when the truth is still being sorted out (there is plenty of time to fuck someone over later). I just hope the next guy that get "call out" doesnt have to go through this shit on TL.

I want is generally not a good way to make decisions...

I hope the mods take a nice long time to discuss the possible unveiling of the poster. As they probably know, there are a number of possible consequences:

a) If the allegations are deemed false, his reputation is marred just because he reported a pro.
b) Concerned parties can enact retribution in various unpleasant ways.
c) If either of the previous is the case, we can forget about anyone posting anonymous tips again, which also means more maphackers unreported.
d) If the previous points can be disregarded, there's still the question that they alone can decide regarding the particular details of the relationship between him and Spades.
e) Lastly, we damage the message that objective arguments trump authority of the speaker.

If the allegations are false, and Spades get fired, said gentleman/lady is liable for loss of earnings in most legal systems, afaik. Slander is slander everywhere.

I understand that they may have been meant in b), but just clarifying

I like "the Spaniard did it" theory. Spaniards have been romanticized too long! (Gladiator reference)

Yeah, slander litigation is one possible way of it becoming nasty. Now, there are several ways that can be done too. If the name is public, you can just sue someone and as the process can be delayed for years and be horribly costly, it's a good way to force a non-wealthy member of society into nasty agreements.

If, on the other hand, TL does not reveal the name, then such litigation will still proceed, but with the difference that a court of law will first investigate claims and then (if the first step went ok) ask TL to provide what evidence they have as to the perpetrators identity. So, TL revealing the name is not a prerequisite to slander litigation.

I have updated my thread in Website Feedback arguing for why the mods should reveal the OP's identity, and I would encourage others to post their thoughts for the mods' consideration.
