ya I was sorta bored today so I decided to record myself playing Maple Leaf Rag. I took the first repeat, but skipped the other repeats.I think I did an ok job in this recording, but there were some mistakes. Unfortunately I had done some perfect runthroughs earlier through the morning but I didn't have a chance to record those so.....ya
I am an ok piano player, and this piece I found was pretty hard to get right because my hand wasn't big enough to move around as much, my struggle isn't shown in the video. I made a couple mistakes here and there, but overall this was the best preformance I could record today
I also screwed up the ending like 3 seconds and landing on the wrong final chords my hands get so tired though it's not even funny
That looks really good, not just ok :o. How long have you been playing piano for? Have you had any formal studying? I love to play piano myself...but I've never had lessons before, nor even own a real piano (I have to use a crappy keyboard that doesn't even have the proper amount of keys =.=).
Very good. That is a tough song and you played it well. I wanted to play that one but gave up piano more or less shortly before I was ready to learn it XD
I actually thought I could do much better. I've been playing piano consistently for 11 years. My parents and teachers always say "I have talent" or w\e but I always thought they said that stuff to just boost my motivation, not that I'm any good
Not bad at all, considering the difficulty of this song. One thing I would suggest is to actually play the song slower - ragtime isn't best when it's fast.
love this piece, I've played it at a few recitals. Most people prefer it a little bit slower but I have a recording of some Scott Joplin piano rolls and he actually takes it pretty quick. PM me if you want a link. great job!
The first one is us a year ago. And the second one(sorry, it's not on Youtube) is on my dad's blog, that's our latest performance.
I like Maple Leaf Rag pretty quick. But you have to remember, rag time is the kind of music you can play at any tempo, but you need to LAY BACK also. What I'm trying to say is that do not be at the head of the beat, but at the back of the beat. Don't slow down, don't speed up, stay at a constant tempo, but be more laid back. And if there's a choice between slowing down and speeding up, slowing down is definitely better.
Also, rag time is also jazz. I think there should be more emphasis on the up-beats instead of the down beats.
But overall, nice playing dude. I've also been playing piano for around 11 years, only classical though XP You're good man!
Wow, not bad race! Is that how you spam so much? I played Piano too. But thats a lot time ago and I quite because my teacher let my play only boring stuff. T_T

I've been playing piano for about 10years now. On and off. I've had lessons for 5years then 4years with no lessons... now I picked up my lessons again about 6months ago with a new (great) teacher.
You know I've had the exact same feeling as you not that long ago... My teacher also says I have talent etc., but does it really matter if you do or don't? Keep on playing! Constantly study new pieces which are slightly more difficult than the previous one you played or that requires some additional/new techniques. Keep pushing yourself to raise the bar. Imo it's about investment, persistence and effort (it will pay off!), not that much about being talented. You'll notice how well you'll improve your techniques and playing by playing some older pieces again.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it man. 0:26 - 0:29 Try to work a bit on your scales so you can make your hands walk over the keys that tiny bit more smoothly.
I'm currently studying the FF7 - One Winged Angel. It's a great piece if you want to work on your technique. It has a lot of variation but it might not be of your taste... I'm definitely picking this piece for my next to study. Thanks!
Don't ever stop playing. PM me if you interested in the FF7 sheet music, I also got the mp3 if you'd like that.
