Yesterday I watched Artosis's behind the scenes video on the newbie draft, and got a really nice lol out of it for the following reasons.
I don't know if this is Korean culture (hopefully it's just KeSPA) but I just don't get why are they so strict on like, everything? Here's an exaggerated story related to what I'm talking about.
Hi I'm KeSPA and I'm going to be hosting the Spring of 2009 player draft. Please all attending teams reserve their seats prior to coming or else you will be kicked out of every league for the rest of the year. If a team fails to assist this event, it will be permanently removed from KeSPA and its players won't be able to join any other team for the rest of their lives. Hello newcomers, on this day you will be sharing your stories with each team's head coaches. Please make sure that you stand with your hands pointed 45 degrees to your crotch and your feet together, hold the microphone with only one hand, do not raise your voice, and keep your speech no longer than 4:53x10^-5 minutes. If you fail to follow this first rule, you will be kicked out of anything that you're on that is related to StarCraft because we own everything about it in the entire country. You will also be humilliated in front of every other recruit and your name will be posted in the public list of "DO NOT RECRUIT" players for the rest of your miserable life. We don't give a shit if you're Olympic on ICCup or if you're JaeDong himself. Failure to follow any of our dictatorship rules will result in these things, and even worse, to be enforced against you. Also remember that our rules may be spontaneous and made up in the spur of the moment, that's why we don't keep a handbook more often than not.
Seriously lol, I don't know if it is just me or what but where I'm from originally (Venezuela) and there is anything related to drafting new players into baseball teams, etc. The player that stands out the most is the one that gets the most attention/support. Either by talking a lot, showing how good he is, being friends with pretty much everyone, etc. This includes talking shit about other players, having a cocky attitude and not being afraid of anything. If a player shows any manners related to what Korean draftees showed on those videos (shy, quiet, tidy, etc) he's going to get so fucking owned by pretty much everyone, even the soda man, and will gain a reputation of being a maricon.
But oh well, I guess it is just Korean culture and that's fair enough for me
What you guys think?

i think that kespa is a joke. thats what i think but about the draft, artosis kept saying that korea has a strict looking apon manner, one of the draftees was standing out of line and skt coach was like, WTF? you dont wanna get drafted you dog manner? so i guess they need to stand out but not in the way that baseball teams do it
|
Actually it was the coaches of the teams who was asking why a certain player was not standing properly. And they can shout and do whatever they want, who told you that kespa was stopping them? From what I got when artosis and the estro guy talking to him was you could do everything you want once its your turn to talk, if i remember correctly 1 guy actually screamed. I actually think that it is part of the culture in Korea to stand at attention when somebody was talking or it is not your turn to talk yet. I remember 1 coach saying that was there chance and they should do something to stand out, the estro guy talking to artosis even said that there was one time a draftee cut his hair to prove he is serious.
I dont know where you get your infos. Everything is almost bullshit. If you are mad at them because of the PPP issue (like me), just stick to that argument.

Personally I think this event will bring about much needed change. Not just within KeSPA but in the e-sporting industry as a whole. This event is widespread and will probably elicit an angry response from not only viewers but from the players as well and perhaps this will serve as the reasoning to push for a Player's Association. Players are horribly underrepresented with no real contracting system until recently with free agency but even then players get little to no input to the decision making process within the industry which is ridiculous.

More like "Korean Corporations' and Organizations' Cultures". It happens in probably every big companies.
But KeSPA still sucks. Brainless twits.

Couldn't Kespa just override the ref's decision? It's clear he made an error.... no need to blame anyone because he was enforcing the rule, and kespa made it, so it's kinda neverending cycle.
Just admit the rule is garbage and the ref was too strict for enforcing it.
Scrap the rule, reverse the match and praise the ref for being such a hero.
So easy to do no?
Couldn't progamers/teams boycott kespa? are they really that important?

im still wondering what that one poor fellow did that got him disqualified from all the drafts for that year.

Kespa's done some pretty stupid stuff, but with all these hate posts i've never seen any substantial info on this association. Maybe I just missed all the info (and typing 'kespa' in the search tab gives way too many posts to dig through :s). I might as well ask here:
Like: Who owns it (or has the largest part rather)? How is it funded? How is the CEO designated, and who is it? Is there a board of major shareholders or some other system?
If the coaches and players don't have a direct say at what's going on, how come the teams can't get to kespa indirectly? I'm sure the major companies that sponsor the 12 proteams have got a huge part of the kespa pie if it's lucrative, and the sponsors definitely need their teams to be happy to diffuse a good image. Like STX having a coach be sanctionned doesn't sound good (whatever the reasons and their validity).
Is it even very lucrative? How does kespa make their money? I mean Kespa sanctions all major events, but what kind of money do they get out of the OSL/MSL/PL? The buisness is obviously very dynamic and lucrative, but what cut does kespa get? I'm assuming they're somewhat "hired" to handle a bunch of things concerning e-sports, but I really have no idea.
And more history like: how did kespa start? How close are Kespa and OGN/MBC? Could they suddenly just go to another association for event organisation and rules? Does Kespa decide to change the proleague format to "winners league" or to make finals BO7 or BO5 or do OGN/MBC make that choice?
Sorry if these questions sound dumb (and they probably are) but I've been following pro SC for ages and honestly don't know anything about kespa... And you know the rule! It don't exist if it don't have it's own Wikipedia page!
