In games like this, a high difficulty also adds to the atmosphere - after all what good is a horror/survival shooter if you blaze through the levels tearing apart everything? But you'll have really low ammo and you have to play cautiously. Just so u know. ![]() Honestly, I'd say just play it on easy if you're trying to experience the game and move on. Unlike modern games, SS2 on easy isn't exactly a walk in the park, and it'll save you a lot of frustration. To succeed on hard, you'll have to read guides, allocate your skills properly, find all the items, etc. It's not worth it for a first play through. I also second Star Control 2 as a good game to play. You'll want to use a walkthrough at some points to finish the game in a reasonable amount of time, but it's really fun just to explore too.

- 3 types: Marine = "Fighter", Navy = "Thief/Technician", OSA = "Wizard" I have played the game 3 times with each of those types, started with Navy then OSI then Marine, and Marine was the most boring one, so I'd take one of the two others. Navy is a good choice for the first time. But you've already started, so... just continue with the one you have. And yes, enemies respawn. ![]() This is a great feature in a game like this IMHO - because this way you're never safe, you'll never have a "100% safe area", and thus it feels more real and scary.

Someone know where i can find Civilisation 2 fantastic world ( map / mod pack ) for free ? ( i have already civ 2 ) You can download a patch Here that will allow you to convert your version of civ2 to either fantastic worlds or multiplayer gold edition. (Also that site has a huge number of scenarios if you're looking for them.)

I took marine >.< Argggg i hate when ennemies respawn because as you said " there are no safe area". Btw with all the low ammo problems it might be really hard to fight all those monsters. And it is fucking creepy ![]() It is like a mix of Half-life 1 beginning ( but way more creepy ) / Dx ( gameplay wise ) / AvP 1 marine mode ( creepy, low ammo and health , respawn for ennemies ). Arrgggggg dunno if i will be able to complete this game. I hate to be the "prey" in video games. You are supposed to be a badass augmented marine but you are shitting in your pants during the whole game lol. At least in Dx you are the hunter and you slaughter all those Unatco weaklings. So far i'm playing in normal mode. Btw if there are an alert because of a camera, will all those hybrids always respawn and come to me ? ( I had like 6 + in a row yesterday and i got kinda raped :/ )

As for the character classes, Navy, Marine, and OSA are pretty much easy, normal, and hard mode, respectively. I found Navy the easiest to play simply by virtue of the fact that hacking is such an essential skill. It lets you hack security terminals (which turns off all cameras and turrets in the area for a limited time), crack locked crates, and my personal favorite: hack the turrets to shoot at your enemies instead of you. Standard weapons and maintenance were basically my two dump stats; I actually got through the majority of the game just fine by relying exclusively on hacking, the wrench, and a pinch of common sense whenever applicable (like knowing when to RUN!). Useful tip: Always, ALWAYS shoot out the security cameras before they spot you. If they do spot you, don't panic: accessing any nearby security terminal will automatically shut them off. I went through my entire first playthrough without knowing this; I would stupidly try to "wait out" the security alert every time I unknowingly triggered it. Bad idea considering enemies spawn infinitely whenever the alarm is active.

I felt so good when i completed the first ( in 1997 ? on my first comp, a 486 ). But the game itself is way older ( 1990 i guess ) i played also the 4 and 5.

![]() The games we're talking about here aren't usually as old... they're all from around 2000 and I think the best games *so far* came out in that period. Most older games *and* most newer games are worse, with a few exceptions. I've played a lot of the Keen series, but never finished even one... they were all too hard for me. I've liked 4 the most, but I was never able to beat a few of those levels.
