THE TEA BLOG

So I have been drinking a lot of tea lately, really since I got to college. One of the big reasons I started drinking it is that it is a pain to go off campus to get drinks(especially gallon sizes, ect) and then have to drag them back to my dorm. It is much more convenient to just have tea around and then make it when I want to drink some, it doesn't really take up space either. Drinking tea at the end of a long day or while studying is pretty damn awesome, also when the dorm gets really cold. You can also drink it to calm your stomach, if you needed to for whatever reason, don't really know what this would be, yep.

I was just wondering what types of tea you guys like to drink. Since there's a lot of asians on TL I'm hoping for some good responses.

I stick to the basics really, the most famous types. Here are some of my favorites:

Thai Tea
+ Show Spoiler +

Thai tea is actually really good just by itself, I know people normally have just had it as milk tea though. It's also cool since it gets really orange(even though the color is food coloring XD)

Green Tea
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

The classic of classic teas.

Jasmine Tea

The other tea served at chinese restaurants. Jasmine tea is probably my favorite, somehow the fragrance leaves a nice feeling in your mouth.

Triple Leaf Tea
+ Show Spoiler +

Supposedly this tea can help reduce acne, which is useful since all the food served in my schools dining halls is super greasy. I'm not sure if it works but who cares, it has a nice kind of herbal minty type of flavor which is refreshing.

Vita Tea

It doesn't fit with the rest, but I like this tea too. Anyone who hasn't tried this stuff is really missing out.

I usually drink black tea. Red tea in the cases I buy milk tea (hot or cold). Green Tea at Japanese retaurants of course. And maybe ginseng tea somewhere or another.

I have a personal preference towards actual tea leaves, rather than tea-bags, I think I have only encountered one decent brand of tea bags, which was from this company.

I also hate it when restaurants go cheap on tea, so much that it just tastes like hot water with tea-like coloring.

And lol at vita tea, I only drink that brand when it comes to guava juice or soy milk :/. Vitasoy soy milk is overpowered imo.

i drink a few types of tea depending on the situation.

green tea: this is a favorite, like paper said, while doing something, like studying, or doing a task. i find it helps me relax.

earl grey with milk: i know some may be disgusted at the fact that some people drink with milk, cream, or sugar, but i find earl grey as a stronger type of tea, and milk kind of dilutes it as milk/cream does to coffee. a favorite in the morning to wake me up.

peppermint tea: mint tea, with mint leaves when sick = win. really helps with the soothing of the throat when sick imo..

jasmine tea: when i feel cheap. lol jks. if i want to drink a LOT of tea, like water, i'd get some jasmine tea. it's also a good tea to drink during socializing if everyone wants to drink tea.

Ok I will look for that, I don't know if the asian supermarkets in my area carry it though. I don't recognize the brand.

Trader Joes carries some good tea bags for Jasmine tea though, they are really fat and have actually jasmine buds in them. Not too cheap though.

I also hate it when restaurants go cheap on tea, so much that it just tastes like hot water with tea-like coloring.

Yeah this really sucks.

White tea is my personal favorite, but is rather expensive when compared to the rest. But I like to indulge in it every once in a while. ^^

Also blended teas are really good.

I've been kind of under the weather the past day or so, and every member of my family has made me tea. I think it was Red Rose black tea. I personally don't care for tea at all, but the honey that was put in it made it pretty good!

I love tea. It is the best beverage in the world imo. It is has many good substances, helps with the digestive system, and can be drinked with any type of food (if you dont add sugar). On a cold day, it warms you up, if you need to unwind it helps you relax, and if you just woke up it helps you get going. Nothing like drinking good old tea.

Earl grey is the best imo. I love tea with basilik (it's a purplish herb with minty taste. Don't know how to say it in english ...) I also never put sugar in my tea. If I'm drinking it with sweets there is no point of adding sugar. If I'm eating it with non-sweets I don't like the conflicting tastes.

I'm surprised how someone who drinks so much tea hasn't really gotten into actual tea leaves instead of bags.

Once I got used to the taste of green tea (outside of the bag), I haven't been able to drink "bagged tea" without cringing. Right now I'm drinking a mix of Sea-buckthorn and goji berries-green tea, and it's quite amazing.

I hope I can somehow get you to try the real thing, cause there's quite some difference. I think that a lot of people here who drink a lot of "real" tea will agree with me.

I guess it could possibly be hard for you to find a good tea shop, depending on where you live, but if you do try "real" tea, I think you won't go back ever again, and realize how much it's worth getting the real stuff despite some hassle.

I hope I've convinced you : ).

Yeah, I know that real tea is better. Last time we were in Hong Kong my family brought back a lot of tea leaves. And...it is really good.

But it is the problem you stated, there aren't any tea shops anywhere near me. The nearest place where I can get actual leaves, which is an asian supermarket, is a long ride by bus.

I drink a lot of Chinese tea, and one thing is very clear -- any (Asian) tea in teabag form is pure garbage. It's analogous to categorizing chicken balls as Chinese food.

My favourite types of tea:

Long Jing (Dragon Well?)

Tie Guan Yin (Iron Buddhist)

Pu Er, it has the shape of cow dung.

It's worth it to stock up. As far as I know tea does not get old for quite some time, at least I haven't experienced any diminishing of taste in several months.

Right now, I'm myself quite new to the world of "real" tea, I'm really interested in learing more I feel inspired by this thread to go out and find new and exciting blends/types of leaves.

I was really surprised to see pics of tea bags in the op of someone talking about tea, but that was already mentioned

Luckily I live in a region of Germany in which tea is very popular, apparently if this region was its own country it would be ranked 4th in the list of countries by tea consumption per capita. Due to this fact there are tea shops everywhere and although there is a pretty unique tea that is specific to this region ([http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Frisia#Tea_culture_in_East_Frisia]see here[/url]) you can get pretty much anything you want I guess.

Personally I don't know much about Chinese or Japanese teas, I usually drink Darjeeling or Ceylon. I mostly drink black tea, but I also enjoy green & yellow teas.
