Well...this whole ordeal started about mid afternoon yesterday. I had just gotten out of my classes for the day, and my mom had no work, and my little sister was home cause she was "sick". I had just burned a copy of Leon: The Professional, and my mom and me had wanted to watch it cause its been so many years since we had seen it. About halfway threw the movie my mom decided she needed a smoke break and i was getting pretty hungry since i hadn't eaten yet that day. We had made nachoes the previous night so i thought i would try and finish off the leftover nacho stuff when i hear...BANG BANG BANG on the door. I look and my mom is like (serious face) "DAVID" (thats me) "I cut my finger off"!
At this point in time we are both just staring at each other threw the door, while i'm thinking to myself...shes fucking with me rite? She went to have a smoke and now shes missing a finger? My mom after she had realized i didn't believe her (who would of blamed me) said "NO, DAVID SERIOUSLY I CUT MY FINGER OFF." At this point i see all the blood running from her hand and was just...shit -__-
For some reason my mom and little sister had ZERO idea on what to do besides panic. They were like chickens running around with there heads chopped off, it was ridicules. After about five minutes of me screaming at them to get into the car we managed to head to the ER. Luckily we only live two blocks from the hospital as were there in no time. After about an hour of waiting in the ER with no word on whats going on the nurse comes saying that my mom would like to speak to me. Walking to countless hallways we finally ended up to where they were keeping my mom. The first thing she says to me was, "hehe...now i don't have to do the dishes. :D" I was just like WTH mom...seriously what....the...hell.
From this point she went on to tell me that when she went out for a smoke she had decided that she wanted to cut some wood into smaller pieces for our fireplace. Needless to say she failed miserably.
Well she got back later that night and apparently she managed to cut threw the bone (hanging by skin) of her middle finger, so they had to remove her finger nail and clean out the cut and reattach the nerves. She also managed to not fully cut threw the bone of her ring finger but she did end up shattering the bone and cutting her finger up pretty good. The doctor managed to successfully reattach her finger and put casts on them.
She should be ok from this and have feeling of her fingers like she had before, and it should only take about a week or so for them to fully heal.

I dont get how that happened though, was she using an axe? Because I've heard of lots of like glancing blows with an axe that can hit your knee/leg, but how can you hit your fingers? (unless she was using a saw which is my guess)
Also good on her for having a positive attitude in a situation like that. Cool mom you got there.

I hope she gets well soon

I'm at a loss for words
How could she cut wood with just one hand, while keeping the other hand on the actual piece of wood? I assume she used an axe of sorts?
Glad she'll be ok though

Sounds like she was using a hatchet and holding the wood as she cut it (obviously she didn't go to Boy Scouts). GL to her as she heals.

Damn this sounds like something that happens out of nowhere...And it did. Musta been a heart race out of control. Whenever I start doing dangerous things that I know I can hurt myself in particular ways, all the consequences run through my head "if" something wrong would happen.
Well good thing is she will still be able to have full use of her fingers.

You didnt put the finger & hand in ice?
and ... fully heal in a week? you're kidding right she chopped off a finger and shattered another one...
I hope she'll be fine. My sister had this in a less serious degree and it was quite annoying for a few months, numbness etc.

well..im not entirely sure how it happened but it was an axe and i have no idea why she was trying to swing an axe with one hand let alone her left hand (right handed) After i asked her what she did it had bad news written ALLLLL over it
yeah a week according to the doctor O_O i was surprised to hear that as well

What the... how in the world do you do that? I can't even imagine... axes make me nervous, but given that both of your hands should be on the axe, I never worried about my fingers.

lmao. i know it's not really funny, but your mother's reaction is pretty amusing.
i'm glad she's ok, hopefully she regains full use of her hand

It's good to hear she's ok. But on the lighter side of news, when I saw the title I thought you were talking about MoM

rofl How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
They were like chickens running around with there heads chopped off you have to actually see that to fully apriciate the description. :DDD ah, and I hate doing dishes too, good call there - it'd chop my finger off anyday to avoid it! xD
One week? wtf that's like, impossible. Even if it was a really clean cut, I'd assume it'd take more. And I can't immagine she would be able to use the finger as before, if she cut the tendons?
What did the doctor say about that?

i don't see what's so confusing about her getting her hand involved. do you have some secret way of chopping firewood that I'm not aware of? one hand on the piece of wood to keep it from falling over, other on the axe.. obviously don't hit your hand though. it's how me & my family have always done it . . and there have been no accidents, but then again, we weren't using our non-dominant hand on the axe, that seems silly..
one week? i dont know much about medicine but wouldn't that require a wolverine gene of sorts
