Listen to your mother's wordsssss, man simplified characters are so different than traditional imo (was taught traditional characters).
They actually aren't that different once you get used to it. My dad's side of the family is cantonese but I took classes for mandarin in high school. Basically this means I had education in simplified only. I can pretty much read traditional and simplified just as well(badly) just from when I see traditional characters in subtitles, since everything cantonese uses traditional.

I'm learning Mandarin Chinese in simplified, and while I can recognize the simplified characters such as 妈妈 in traditional, some characters look completely different. Also, while some Cantonese words sound like Mandarin ones, others that sound alike have completely different meanings as well @_@

Like, almost all taiwanese MVs have karaoke versions, so like half of the ones u find on youtube are KTV versions, and half are the actual MV. but really, its the same. I find myself only reading the lyrics most of the time hahaha, xD.
also I've been looking for forever for a song I heard a long time ago. Basically the PV had a 40 year old guy playing a piano in the snow and singing. It was a christmas song and starts off with some guys robbing a store. I'm sure the chorus was like "shiroi _______" but I dont remember at all since this was like 1-2 years ago. Oh and he was in a black coat I think.
