I really want to get an old-style mechanical "clicky" keyboard (like the old IBM ones). I can't find anything at all in New Zealand, so I've been googling and checking out overseas sites. Does anyone have any experience with Unicomp keyboards? Apparently they bought the keyboard technology off IBM.
Here's a link to their site: http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/ And to the keyboard I'm looking at: http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/customizer.html
One thing I find pretty much essential in a keyboard is the Windows key(s), which is why picking up an old IBM isn't really an option for me.
Any ideas?

I think my friend got his off ebay. Always a good place to start searching.

Ebay is probably your best bet. And why the hell are they selling those crappy keyboards for $69 USD? With that money -> Razer imo.
EDIT: Blast, I've been beaten. If only I remembered how to use the [url] tags.

Good luck, man! I prefer the clicky keyboards also!
These new ones are so feminine.

I don't know if you'll find anyone who has one of the new ones- the old ones sell for a lot less on ebay (about 20 is what i got my ibm model m for)

I have a unicomp keybooard. It has a good feel to it when you type, a satisfying springy click. I also like the old fashion, simple look.
But it's also very loud, so I avoid using it when my roommates are around. If you don't share a room or your roommates won't care, I'd say go for it.

Thanks for the feedback. No luck on ebay yet, as the unicomp keyboards there either have an odd layout (two rows of F keys etc) or no windows keys.

Yeah merach I had a look at those earlier, but they're quite expensive and I'm not sure they ship to NZ.

I don't see anything about the keystroke mechanism on that page. Are you sure they're mechanical? $10 seems a bit light for a new mechanical keyboard to me.
Edit: upon further inspection it does look like it might be a mechanical. It's only specced for 1/5th the durability of a Unicomp though. I'd definitely give that a shot first based only on the cost, but shipping's going to cost a bit anyway and NewEgg doesn't ship internationally.

I actually have das keyboard (daskeyboard.com) Its really nice, but definitely overpriced. I bought it used on ebay for around 80 dollars, its well build and very comfy (and blank keys are cool lol) but not worth the money. I recently also got a nice buckling spring keyboard from salvation army for a buck so uhh try that first haha

Bumping this thread because I'm thinking about buying one unicomp customizer....but since I can't test it, I'd like to know if you (or anybody else) tried it and if it's any good for gaming (reviews for everyday use seem to be more than positive but can't find a lot of feedback from gamers...).
