I've been having some trouble lately. I think it's hardware related.
Like 2 days ago I played CS and all of the sudden my FPS started dropping majorly (from 100 to 15). I monitored CPU usage and memory usage and neither went over 50%.
Now, my system is pretty decent, so this definately should not happen. So I tried looking for the problem. My heating in my room broke down so it was like ~ 0°C in my room (really fucking cold, I know), but it really seemed like an overheating problem. So I opened up the case. Every fan seemed to run normally. I kept the case open.
Today, I tried playing cs again. Same problem. 100 FPS at start, dropping down to 10 after like 5 minutes.
I reinstalled my GFX drivers, to no avail. I installed SpeedFan to double check if it was a heating problem and I got something weird I think.
Speedfan lists the following temps:
GPU: 33C Temp1: 34C Temp2: 65C (lol?) Core: 33C
I started up cs again, and noticed my Temp2 rising to 75C, with my fps dropping starting on 70°C.
My specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DQ6 Processor: Pentium D950 GPU: Gefore 7900GTX
Questions: 1. Is Temp2 my CPU temperature? How can I prevent it from going so high? I'm using stock fans btw. 2. How high should CPU temp normally go maximally? 3. I never got this problem before, and now I get it when my room is cold as hell. Can it be fried? Might the temperature sensor be fucked up and causing my CPU to slow down when its actually not warm? 4. Last summer my motherboard fried due to too high temperatures. I then got a new one. I had way bigger problems back then though.. Is the same thing going to happen again?
I have no idea what to do, and I'd really appreciate some help lol.

is there a lot dust, perhaps, get some compressed air and clear out dust, possible spyware/virus infection
also maybe new driver for the graphics card ??

Provided you're not talking about source with super high poly skins/models, i'm guessing either your north bridge or video card fan's are stopping. What i'd do is because you say "is my temp sensor fucked up causing my CPU to slow down" is go into bios and disable all of that power saving bullshit (cool and quiet, speedstep etc etc) and then see if you can get a flashlight inside your case and see if the CPU fan or northbridge fans are slowing down/stopped. Yes, both the CPU and the northbridge can become hot enough to fry, but in most cases the machine hard locks and the device cools off by itself because it's not being used, so be cautious, but don't over-react and leave the machine off until you have a sure answer or something.
Edit: After looking at your motherboard, you don't appear to have a northbridge fan, so it seems like it may be an over-all case airflow problem, an easy way to check is grab a box fan, open up your tower and sit said box fan right up next to the tower, try playing CS and watch the temps, if they stay low, you probably want to check front/rear fans, as well as the power supply fan (assuming this is a new problem, and has worked fine before)
This is the mobo i googled:

Temp 2 on temperature monitors is always some crazy number. mine was 85c while my friends had his at 4c
my GPU runs at 40c and CPU around 25. i think cpus can run fine up to 50-60s i think.
if you want you could get an aftermarket cooler for your cpu This site reviews cpu heat sinks
its also possible that you havnt cleaned your computer up (e.g. the registry) so its making your pc run slow cos with those specs CS should be able to run at high fps

Yeah I'm typing this with the case completely open at the side and its still giving trouble lol. I'm pretty sure it just goes into thermal throttling at 70°C, and therefore my fps goes down.
The fans never stop working though. My PS is a 450W one and the fan is working. The GPU fan works too. The CPU fan (stock) is working at max speed (makes a SHITLOAD of noise).
I'll go into bios now and put off power saving options. Brb.

Rage: i dont use the program you use but a 70C temp is pretty high for a pc i use a basic program called everest http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181 The nice thing about this is that it also lists the function of your coolers. Im not expert but ill try to answer your questions: 1- Temp is based on sensors. Temp1 could be the cpu or the mainboard theres no way to tell unless the program states where the sensor is. 2- As far as i know over 60 may be harmful. 3- Different parts can be fucked due to temp, if its the cpu normally the process of dying to temp is gradual, if its the mainboard the pc just dies, it can also be the graphics card. 4- If your mainboard died before you could have worked on your cooler. Normally the dust is the pc killer, since it allocates on your cooler(s) and they stop working properly. 5- If your PC works better with the open case then its almost sure that its the cooler. Proceed to clean up with a brush, i dont advice to use a compressed air can. How old is your pc btw?

It depends what processor you're using. I did some cursory looking and it seems the average temperature under load is 65-80 degrees C. It's generally higher for Pentiums than AMDs. And I don't think Rage is looking for a CPU cooler, because he said it works just fine before.
Something that's a really cheap trick and sometimes works is to get all the dust out of your computer. Dust would spike the temperature to a level that 0 degrees C room temperature couldn't fix. Canned air works but is expensive just a paper towel and get all the dust out of your heatsink and stuff. Don't do this while it's on, of course, and use water with lots of caution, or else you might need a new computer.

My guess would be too much dust packed between the fins on the cpu heatsink. My friend had this last year and was seeing cpu temperatures of ~85C. The really fucking cold causing condensation might have caused the dust to stick around or something?

Hopefully this means you've figured it out

actually, it doesnt lol
i looked at the cpu heatsink and it was FULL of dust. I went to get some compressed air today and dusted it out. Now my computer wont even boot lol, it just shuts down after 10 seconds. Im going to bring it to the store to get it repaired. Thanks for all the help guys.
