I've asked all my Counterstrike 1.6 buddies if Cs is dead and they say.. its dying. For years now the 1.6 community has dwindled and dwindled. Then the community was split in two by the release of CS:S and now it is down to a trickle.
Which leads to what this thread is REALLY about: What do i have to satisfy my gaming needs? With 1.6 slowly (and painfully) dying, no playing quake, and no good titles (bar Quake live_ on the horizon. what should i do?
Wait. the answer is right infront of me. TL.net... Starcraft? Is the starcraft community about to suffer a total split down the middle with the release of SC2 or is it going to be a total shift to the new game? Should i bother with SC?

I've never been that interested in shooters, but the call of duty series is going pretty strong at the moment, so you might want to let that tide you over until you can find the next big thing?

it's pretty much dead in australia (only wcg is worth playing for) but still popular overseas

It's a shame that the same thing will probably happen to BW when SC2 comes out

Are you kidding? CS is still wildly popular. The pro scene is populated, the tournaments still happen. CS:S is only slightly more popular. Shit, just look at this, it's all the proof you need.
Your 1.6 buddies are.. not well-informed.

Hell, go look at Gotfrag's "prize money" section, there's still hundreds of thousands of dollars worldwide being poured into the game.

Yeah but im not willing to practice for 12 hours a day, join a team, get sponsors, join a league etc. etc. Theres a decline in the pub servers (i think GA has 4 left or something), pug IRC servers are going down also and a server wont be populated to 10+ players at any one time.
At least in Australia anyways.

I liked CoD2, though i jumped on the bandwagon a bit late. I don't like CoD4 too much, i played it pretty hardout once upon a time, but gave up after dying repeadedly to some tard mashing the nade button.

I dunno, I play on AU/NZ servers all the time. The servers are usually near full when I'm around. Dunno about the scrims though because I scrim against american teams (fuck 250 ping yo).

I heard CSers moved to COD4 when it came out. So, mebbe, you should check that out.
CS isn't dying anytime soon especially in Asia. If your connection is fast, maybe you should try the Singapore servers. They're probably the nearest country to your region who have among the fastest home DSL speeds. I can't be too sure about Malaysia ones. It depends if people are hosting the server at our internet backbone areas.

The Koreans play a game called "Sudden attack". (that name probably sounds badass in korean
Has anyone tried that out?

you can't play Sudden Attack online unless you're in Korea.

It's pretty sad they haven't balanced the weapons for 9 years already... One they decided to try and balance them by just making the rifles even more expensive, when the other weapons are just not worth it, and they would've just increased the need for saverounds instead of decreasing it as they should... pretty retarded and the community cried out ofc, but they still didn't get that you can't compare 2 mp5s to the m16, because you don't get an extra player/life to use the second mp5 and the result of the community outcry was them just not changing anything...

PLay source, it's better
better yet, play tf2

I guess i just need to surf the puddle that is CS until the quake live website is up and running,

Over here in Sri Lanka, CS 1.6 is still the biggest multiplayer FPS game. Nobody plays source, possibly because it needs computers with better specs.
