These are so late - two weeks on Saturday I attended Kart Rider's Buddy Buddy League as usual. They're introducing new race queens each week so this week I got to shoot the usual players plus some ladies too.

I also combined in the photos of last Saturday's Round 1 final. A lot of the more influential players such as Kang Jinwoo, Moon Hojoon (the eleven year old champ.) Kim Jaehee and Seokin are out already. However, familiar faces like Jang Jinhyung have made it into the grand final.

Wow. Can't girls who look like that find better jobs? (or marry rich?)

Especially the girl in the eighth photo from top.

LOL that last kid looks SO young.

edit1: also this blog gives me fond memories of Craziepenguin's blog.

edit2: also one of those teams is sponsored by razer, just like the TSL.
It's easier not to.

Exactly how popular is Kart Rider in Korea compared to Starcraft? (and how much of that popularity is due to the hot chicks, lol)

The hot chicks are a new feature to draw more peoples' attention I think (and there are definitely more men with cameras coming to KR now lol.) SC is the most well established and popular esport in SK. On a normal PL day it draws a crowd in excess of 250-300 people dependant upon team/location and time. In comparison Kart Rider is usually only attended by under 50-100 people and a lot of them are friends of the players/players themselves.

I think this is (in part) due to the different demographics the games target. A lot of KR fans are younger kids who can't go to live events without their parents/are studying. Also SC tends to attract a wider range of people (more girls for a start.) The age range is bigger (from little kids to middle aged men.) and the leagues are more varied (KR only has one league running at any given time played on Saturday night whereas currently SC has PL, MSL, OSL and Gom TV.)

It's the most popular racing game for its demographic, but compared to SC all other esports are less well attended/less intergrated into SK gaming culture/mainstream Korean living.

DO you happen to know if kartrider pros train like SC pros? Like do they practice 10 hrs a day in a pro hosue?

Currently my contact at Nexon (the photographer for KR live events is on her honeymoon, but when she comes back I can definitely ask her. I don't think the training schedule is as rigorous and I don't think they have team dorms either, but I'm not 100% sure about how they do train for this.

In a way yes, but the booth girls don't serve as much of a function as the ladies at KR, DF or SF. Their duties are;

SC: Stand in the booth for about two minutes before a match begins (OSL only currently.) then leave.

DF: Guide players down the main stage, do ceremonies with them before events and hold up round number cards.

SF: Hold the bins for the extra equipment/items picking at the beginning of the event, stand with the specialized FPS Kespa referee during matches and make notes.

KR: Wave flags on the podiums during race breaks, interview players after they have won.

After matches they guide players to the winner's area or whatever and hand them stuff to toss to fans. But before games start they really are just eye candy I guess, seeing as I've never seen them do anything.

...my god. holy shit man. you have the 7th sense or something...ability to see progamers in any incarnation. Because the resemblance of her face to that of July's is completely uncanny. It just gives me the feeling that I should jump off a bridge or something.

Other people: please say that you see this.

Edit: For the other photos, they must practice those faces in the mirror all day or something. Some of those are like straight out of anime...

LOL I can see the July thing too - kind of scary.

'After matches they guide players to the winner's area or whatever and hand them stuff to toss to fans. ' They may have done this in the past, but the current OSL booth girls only come into the booth for a few minutes before the game and then stand outside it and point to the podium down the stairs on the left side of the OGN stage. Otherwise they do nothing else right now. Players don't generally give things to fans right now except;

STX recently gave out photobooks at PL.
OGN and KTF give flowers and OGN used to give toys.
SKT1 throw signed mousemats/photos/plush toys at PL.

At OSL and MSL it generally never happens.

Waterdragon: I use a Nikon D40X with a 70-200mm macro lens. I want to upgrade, but I'm broke T_T

I could've sworn i saw it happeninig in the OSL, by like fantasy or BeSt or something. But I might be wrong.

Edit: They did do it, maybe just for the OSL Ro8 games though. Check out the end of Stork's game:
+ Show Spoiler +
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8S0XKBQkUg

After skipping to the end of the other games (on BaeZZi's account b/c he doesn't cut as soon as the match ends) all the players did it this OSL Ro8, with the booth girls handing them what looks like mini-posters or something. Anyways, the format of them going straight into the crowd instead of going off to the side seems to be totally new in and of itself.
