It has more of an arcade-y feel to it, yes. It is not a deep, gripping rpg, yes. It isn't very long, yes. But christ it's the best jedi experience EVER. And the best there ever will be. (Unless force unleashed is released for pc and turns out to be like jedi academy but a step further in graphics).
I JUST FUCKING LOVE walking ominously around raised platforms, spying a couple of unaware sentry guards; creeping up to them- hey! You there! You're under arrest!
A quick force grip, a flick to the side and release: off they go! Screaming all their way down the chasm. My favourite jedi power definitely!
You can choose all light-side powers, and play the game with good sword play and regenerative/ protective powers. Go all dark side powers to go heavy on the damage dealing but to leave yourself open to death quite regularly.
You can choose a composite mix like kyle katarn, which is always fun if you set yourself challenges to beat the levels without saving. This game is actually hard! To beat the cpu without any cheap tricks, at jedi master difficulty, with only a lightsaber and no powers; is something I have never managed to do (through the entire game without saving). It's great. It's the best!
Kotor didn't have many problems, except that it felt like a shallow rpg...i didnt like the final fantasy style restriction of only being able to use the characters they want you to use...i found the game unbalanced and actually short too. But it was a fun and gripping game.
Ultimately, I think you can invest more time into jedi academy over a long period; because it's very hard to get truly bored of the game. Play the whole thing through as a dual lightsaber wielder who turns to the dark side...then the next game as a nice good guy with a single lightsaber and plenty of gusto. You can even try and beat the enemies with guns.
So yeah, better game, jedi academy .
Ps i mean kotor 1 AND 2.

I didn't play KOTOR much (only abtou 30 minutes' worth) but I definitely liked Jedi Academy better based on what I did play (I beat JKJA)

I remember that game. I played JFK2 Multiplayer a shit load when many people played it. The single player on that game was horrible but the multiplayer was amazing. I had high hopes for JK3 but they were crushed when I got my hands on it. Terrible multiplayer... =[
But as you say the Single Player is very awesome. I think I played through it a good 3 or 4 times. Very fun.

IMO, KOTOR (especially 2) much better captures the feeling of being a Jedi. Some incredible dialogs with nice gameplay option and combat animation. Good quests and a "real" struggle between Light and Dark side. Being a Jedi doesn't mean you have to kill 95% of time, you know...

Jedi Outcast was better than Jedi Academy. Plus, JA and KOTOR are totally different games... I don't think they're comparable.

Get....out...HAMERD!!!!
kotor is much more addictive!!! And fun!

I love both. More fun tactics: meat grinder: force pull + force speed + spam lightsabre (fast stance) acrophobia: force jump + force pull (in open area)

maybe its because Kotar is a straight off rpg with no other direction to go but the ones the story gives you.
i meen its ok that you can choose dark or light paths but in the end they all take you to the same place on the same direction past the same planets and killing almost the same people.

i played KOTOR and Outcast, i have to agree that the battles in Outcast were pretty damn epic. but the world KOTOR develops really grew on me.
moral of story: play both

I don't like jedi outcast as much, too much gun in the early levels. I hate kyle katarn he's a wanker. The last level of jedi outcast was intense though, racing back into the academy to fight...a clothed lizard?! Desaan was lame. That accent was lame. You all know it.
ps...spenguin...EN GARDE!!!! I challenge you to a having-fun-out-of-game battle!

JKII 1.02 multiplayer is where it's at.

This is great to hear! I only played a few hours of KOTOR, but I didn't want to get super involved in a RPG. Thanks for the review, HamerD.

ESL is a joke. They even have CS-Manager as a game.
|
Might as well say CAL is a joke since they have leagues for games that has a small community. At least ESL are holding LAN tournaments with a nice amount of money as prizes.
