before i post part 3 of my trip I'm moving into college tomorrow.
In college, there's Internet obviously but I think there is limited access due to bandwidth.
How does bandwidth work? Would SC take a lot of bandwidth? How about youtube? Just browsing teamliquid? Browsing other forums? Images?
Explain to me. Thanks :D

It depends on the college. Some colleges are very good about bandwidth and you'll never notice a problem. Others cap you at how much you can use per month (in which case youtube or tons of downloading will put you at risk of going over).
That's separate from the maximum upload/download speed you can get.
Regular internet browsing is rarely a problem without video.
Edit: gaming is usually ok unless the college network gets overwhelmed and they don't upgrade it.

SC doesn't take much bandwidth at all... Youtube takes a lot, browsing pages/forums not so much, images takes quite a bit, but only if there's lots of hi res pictures.

Ok dude Bandwidth is the amount of access that you can get on the internet. Colleges usually have limits such as 1GB per day or something like that. SC really takes nothing, Youtube is also fine but don't over do it. The only thing you need to worry about is no torrents and big downloads. If you want you could get your own connection usually by living off-campus!! Especially if you can find a place near the college :D:D

Bandwidth is just how much data you upload/download from the internet. I believe data transfers within the school's local network doesn't consume bandwidth, but I might be wrong.
One thing you should keep in mind is avoid the video. Yes, that includes Youtube, despite its terrible quality. Nothing will put you over faster than video. I have a 1 gigabyte per week limit, and the only time I go over bandwidth is when I watch too much video. Gaming doesn't take much, but it's possible that your school's firewall blocks gaming. Really, nothing should put you in danger of going over except video. If you're unsure, just get a bandwidth monitor.

At my campus the on-campus file sharing allowed for virtually anything, whereas the internet limited us greatly. Everyone literally competed to upload more Terabytes to other members of the campus.

Right now my internet blows though, but I don't have a limit. 100kb/s :/

A. The ResNet Network Rules to which I agreed mentions a bandwidth limit. What is "bandwidth"?
The term "bandwidth" refers to the amount of uploading and downloading of data that can be done across a particular medium, in this case, the Rutgers network. You are allowed to download 4096 MB of data and upload 2048 MB of data per seven day period. Exceeding the bandwidth limit will result in your IP being restricted to Rutgers space only for 1-7 days. Please see section 2 D for more information on the 7-day sliding window and how the 1-7 day restriction works. Please note that this restriction is only applied to the computer registered on the ResNet network – students are still able to access outside networks via other computing resources available at the University (RUWireless, computer labs, etc.).

Your Resnet doesn't offer you a bandwidth monitor?
Purdue has a real time one so you know where you stand.

yea it has a monitor i just need to go to one of the websites!

lmao haji got fucking raped
well self-owned i guess

my school doesnt have any bandwidth max nice~

dude, just spend a few days of regular use and track how much of your limit you use 4 gb is pretty low (i had to deal with that when I spent a summer living on rutgers' campus) but it's enough to play starcraft all you want pretty much
