My crappy evaluation period just ended for WinZip(the free version) and now I see I have 3 choices: 1) find another stupid trail program for opening .zip files 2) avoid downloading files in .zip format 3) find a good program to open them with that is free, and isn't a trail of the program. So I'm obviously most interested in option #3, can someone tell me/give link as to where such a program is?

anyways, 7zip will work

I'm running windows, and my comp came with WinZip and WinRaR trails versions both installed, so I can't use either of them anymore, although I just tried 7-zip, and its working great, thnx blabber

yeah seriously haha, I like how everytime I open something with winRAR it gives me this serious message: Please Purchase WinRAR license "Please not that winrar is not free software. After a 40 day trial period you must either buy a license or remove it from your computer."
Then they have a row of buttons saying

7-Zip is a very good choice. It doesn't support .ace though... that's why I have a commandline unace.exe additionally. Fortunately, .ace is very rarely used.

I use IZArc. Supports ridiculously many compresssions and feels pretty light

all zip/unzipping programs are light

For pretty much any widely used utility (including unzipping tools), you can find free and legit versions by googling for "site:sourceforge.net [StuffIWant]"... might not be the most polished, but it does give some quick options.
(EVERYTHING on sourceforge is open source. Which means free as in beer and as in speech - no nag screens, and you can download and compile the source yourself if you're paranoid about malware.)
