I'm new to StarCraft, at least in terms of serious gaming, but after watching some Klazart's VOD-s (which forced me to install SC once more), I was wondering how it'll be to try doing some commentary on SC game. Thanks to my 6th sense, I bumped into nice Polish SC site, where after knowing some people, someone came up with an idea of organising a tournament. Almost immediately I thought it was great opportunity and... I did my first VOD for friendly match. Then I did another and another. Now I do commentaries for Ro8 of this tournament and I even did a little introduction (not as great as the TSL's one, but still I'm proud). Although I cast only in Polish (some forum users don't know English well enough) I think I'm getting better and better with each VOD.
Why I write about this? Well, because I'm so damn proud of myself - I found courage and strength to do this and I succeded (even if my casting is still nothing compared to any of widely known commentators). I hope I'll be better at this and I'll get chance to do commentaries of other games than "our" local tournament (by local I mean StarCraft Area forum).

Good for you! If you really enjoy doing this, then keep doing it. Also Try casting the next gom tv intel classic. It's really easy, I mean gomtv set it up for you. Not to mention you can have your own polish casting section.

Casting is a lot of fun. I've tried it a couple of times, but never really got into it. A friend of mine made his own tournament called Sweden's best and I was a guest commentator there for two - three games. Then I've also had audio commentary on some of my own replays, but I'm not sure I ever released them hehe.
The biggest thing I casted was probably the finals of Strelok vs HayprO on the last DreamHack. At first there weren't many listeners at all. But when I looked up after the second game, there were a lot more people. Freaked me out a little.
Good luck with your commentating and let us know if you do anything in English : )

My first thought would be, Don't do it... if you are new to SC u ll be wasting ur time.. but then again who knows.. u should post samples of u doing commentary and ppl will say (Y) or (N)
do u have any?

Well, I post every match on youtube, but as I said they're in Polish (I'll do an English commentary when the tournament will end). My main problem is lack of emotions in my voice (well, I don't want to scary my mother in other room by shouting, but I'm working on this)
EDIT: it seems, players participating in tournament casted by me are enjoying my commentaries, but I still want to be better regardless of positive opinions

do u have any? He didn't post here to get opinions on whether or not he should do it, he's here to tell us about it. There's no need to downplay what he's doing, especially when he's already been doing it.

I find it really enjoyable, although it's hard to hear it from my voice . It's a pity I didn't try casting GomTv games, but I wasn't sure if my internet connection was good enough. I should have tried anyway -_-.

I think I'll warn Her or something, because adding more emotions to my voice would really help .

No offense, but you sound like a stammer, you cant talk fluently at all. There is a "mmm" or "yyy" between each 2-3 words - what makes the commentary incredibly irritating to listen to. In addition, you seem to lose your breath very quickly - you can be heard taking a breath after each few words and to make matters worse you cough every so often - as if you had severe asthma. Try to make some oral exercises perhaps, they can be probably found on google (search for websites for vocalists). Also, try to be less monotonous...

I know, I'm trying to do something about it and there's long road before I'll be as good as I'd want to be .
EDIT: well, I never said I'm good at commentaries - I'm just happy I tried doing it. For now it's enough, but I'll do my best to overcome flaws in my commentaries .

I'm well aware of it . Still I'm doing my best to overcome any flaws in my commentaries with each presented game. I'm happy as hell doing VODs and its real fun for me (and for others, although I listen to their advices on presenting the game).
