No idea what SAT/ACT is. :S A-Levels in UK are the big exams that universities look for when you apply (graded A-E). They are studied over 2 years, usually between 16-18. The first year is called AS Level and the second year is called your A2 Level. It is possible to study a subject only up to the AS Level and you have a qualification after a year (similarly graded A-E.) The way the application process works in UK is that you apply to universities in the middle of your second year. In other words, you have your AS results but not your A2 results yet. If successful in your application, the universities make you an offer, typically requiring 3 full A-levels at particular grades (e.g. AAA, BBB, BBC). Good Luck Woyn!

Lots of unis find it hard to distinguish between candidates now :| With the hindsight of a uni degree... A levels aren't that bad at all.. hahah as we older folk always say..... This is mainly because your final A level result is an average of both your AS and A2 years. However, the AS year is a LOT easier than your A2 year. So you get around 80-95% in your AS Level and 55-70% in your A2 year and you come out with an A. You can even totally fuck up one exam and get a D in it but still get an A overall. The second thing is that its possible to get 100% in your AS exams without getting everything right. So a paper may be out of 80 but if you get anything over 70, this translates to 100% of your AS points. This really helps in 'banking' up lots of marks come the A2 year so you've got a comfy buffer zone for your shiny A grade etc.

I hear that stuff from our girls all the time, then I take a look at my self who is content with B/C's haha

I was bricking it before my results came out, I had kind of messed up my GCSE's and my AS levels were awful (U lol), but then my A-levels came out and I did much better then I even thought I had!

AS: Bio 95%, Chem 97%, Eng lit 94%, Math 98%, Physic 96% (tied for top in my country lol wtf) A2: Bio 93%, Chem 93%, Eng lit 96%, Math 100% Combined A level: Bio 94%, Chem 95%, Eng lit 95%, Math 99% I also couldn't bare the anticipation and kept asking my mum everyday if the mail had arrived for today and if so if there was anything for me lol. It was one of the scarriest days of the holidays too because of expectations from teachers to do well All my university needed for my course was 120 UCAS tarrif points (DDD at A level and I would've gotten in -_-) and I ended up with 540 lol. As long as you get your requirements for uni the marks hardly matter at all, and I'm sure you're the type of student that would definitely go for As in everything so you'll be fine ^_^. Apparently international GCSE is easier than the UK GCSE though, but I'm not sure how the CIE AS and A levels compare to what the UK guys sit (I have a feeling ours is slightly easier). I remember coming out of nearly every paper for all my subjects thinking I had gotten raped but it turned out much better than I expected. For example in my AS physics paper 3 prac I had actually set up the circuit wrongly for the first experiment (DOH! ><), so all my measured values were garbage. I didn't realise until the very end of the test after I had done all the tables and graphs and everything was totally gutted but it turned out very good. I actually found the jump from AS to A2 much easier than the jump from IGCSE to AS. I felt the material in A2 was not really more difficult to grasp, it was just alot more detailed and it focussed on different areas than in AS. There was still the same amount of stuff to study for as in AS and I actually found it easier to prep for A2 cause everything is really clear cut and you know exactly what you need to know from the curriculumn thingy. I remember my teacher telling me during AS chem that a mark of 70% or higher in A2 chem is amazingly good, but I found A2 chem so much easier than AS chem for example. I still did worse than in AS cause I freaked out and overthought everything in the exam but ya it was still good. I don't know what UK uni courses are like but over here first year "pre med" is like A2 all over again haha. CIE was so great cause it preped all the ppl who had sat it so well for uni, and those who had sat our normal national qualification (NCEA) got totally raped in their first semester cause they got a shock from all the new material. I guess you won't really have an advantage seeing as all the UK ppl sit AS and A levels too but go hard at your A2s and you might find first year at uni a breeze. They are quite different from SATs because they are more written based (but there's still a multichoice section) and have a practical component (where you hsve to carry out an experiment or whatever) to the subject as well.

It's STEP I'm panicking about, I know I did good in STEP II, but I also know I did horribly in STEP III. Also, I'm in Japan right now, so I have to get my results emailed to be at some uncertain time, which adds even more tension. >_<

We have a guy in the highschool I used to go to who for his IGCSE got top in the world (which actually means top in the southern hemisphere which is a bit bleh) for 3 of his subjects and top in new zealand for another. I was so happy when I stole a top in new zealand from him in my AS physics to ruin his record when I sat it in my last year of high school lol.
