Hey TL.Net, I'm more of a lurker than a poster but I have decided to start a blog. Here's my first entry!
After countless stressful weeks of college admissions, I have finally narrowed it down to two schools.
Emory University in Atlanta University of Southern California in Los Angeles
Both are great universities and have pros and cons.
But I can not decide which school I really want to go to. Of course, I'm going to be visiting and participating in programs to learn more about each school, but I want some opinions too.
What do you think about each of these schools? I am planning on doing undergraduate business.
If you had to pick a school, which school would you pick and why?
I also have a feeling that Emory is relatively unheard of outside the Southern United States. Is this true? Will it affect my job opportunities?
Any sort of feedback is greatly appreciated! Post your thoughts, comments, experiences, rants, whatever you want =D

Emory's fairly known IMO; they're comparable schools prestige wise. Maybe USC slightly ahead, but they're both good schools.
The thing is, I like Los Angeles far more than Atlanta b/c there's a lot more to see and do. USC is in sort of a bad part of LA, unfortunately - but the campus itself is quite safe and quite beautiful.
I'd pick USC simply because of the location. I didn't apply to either so I'm not much of an authority though .. :x
I will most likely be attending UCLA, so do tell me if you attend USC ~

Emory is a well-known school, even on the west coast, but I'm not sure why you'd want to go there instead of USC. Atlanta is cheaper and... has lots of strip clubs?
|
Go by athletics of course usc wins ez.
|
usc
better location... can't beat socal :}

they're both decent schools, but I think emory probably is higher ranked and has more prestige... Atlanta is a decently fun city imo

I'm not usually one to praise USC, being a UCLA student and whatnot, but their business school is quite good. LA is generally more interesting than Atlanta, the humidity is much lower, and the food is awesome. Come out this way.

Wow I turned around to study for a test and I got so many replies already xD
I'm from the suburbs around Atlanta and really like Emory (I have a couple of good friends going there too). But I have not visited USC so who knows. I'm visiting during my spring break, which is next week, and maybe I'll love USC too.
Football isn't really my thing. The only game I ever watch is the super bowl. Maybe I'll learn to enjoy the sport more. But I do like basketball.
Emory's US News ranking is higher and its business week undergrad business program is ranked 5 I think, but I don't take rankings too seriously. They're a great guide but shouldn't determine everything. I think both are about equal.
Last Romantic: If I go to USC, I'll be sure to tell you. It'll be great to know someone before heading out West.

Oh I didn't realize you were from the Atlanta area. I went to HS in Henry Co. and graduated from Georgia Tech. I didn't like football until I went to college, but I'm a big fan now.

If I were you, I'd go to USC
Fuck I would have applied to UC schools if I didn't live in NJ haha
|
Well what are you planning to major in?
|
Most likely undergrad business

omg I can't read sorry, it was in the OP. *shame*
Well Emory is really good at business (tier up from USC I guess?), and people have definitely heard of it, especially those who in any way would be dealing with employing/accepting graduated Emory undergrad business majors anyway.

wow this is crazy, i was in the same exact position as you (although i am pre-health, not business)
i was trying to decide between Emory and USC, and i ended up choosing USC.
needless to say i would definitely choose USC. academically, USC and Emory are fairly comparable. however, USC brings more to the table--as a business student you have endless opportunities to find internships within LA since it's a much larger market than atlanta is. outside of academics, you have USC's amazing athletics programs (trojan football fever is contagious... well worth the price of the season tickets).
PM me if you have more questions, and if you're going to be visiting campus let me know. maybe we can meet up and i can give you a tour or something, depending on my schedule.

I have never heard of Emory. USC is in SoCal which rules, you could come to my LAN parties.

I go to UCLA, so I have to fulfill my Bruin duty and tell you not to go to USC.
However, I think the best way for you to decide is to go and visit each school. I had a hard time deciding between UCLA and UC Berkeley until I visited each one. You may have visited them before you got your decisions, but visiting a school once you have the golden ticket changes the way you perceive it.
@LR: You're coming to UCLA? Awesome pick.

Emory, since I'll be right across the street basically :D
Edit: Also, if Emory has a co-op or internship program (like Georgia Tech), than just know that Atlanta has the third highest amount of Fortune 500 (I think). So I know for a fact that you can get some internships or something there as well.

I don't think we need to make this decision for you.
