In my eyes, Rebelheart, you just try to prove with your body some mental strength of which you are unsure.
You probably feel that your thoughts don't follow your will all too well at times, and that your faith and belief struggle or do not suffice at certain times. And you think you want prove to yourself how good a christian you really are, for your faith and the strength of your belief cannot be measured, but well can you measure the lengths you go to to reach your goals, whatever purpose they may serve.
I still think it's pointless, yet even pathetic, to rely on such cruel methods of proving a point to oneself, because I don't think you go to church every Sunday telling the father how long you went without masturbation since.
Your mind is weak, your will is faint, your belief struggling, and you try to force yourself into a life of chastice and purity, that is not even explicitely recommended by the bible. You aren't a true Christian, or a religious person even, if your body does all the work, and suffers in the process.

"When the spiritual teacher and his disciples began their evening meditation, the cat who lived in the monastery made such noise that it distracted them. So the teacher ordered that the cat be tied up during the evening practice. Years later, when the teacher died, the cat continued to be tied up during the meditation session. And when the cat eventually died, another cat was brought to the monastery and tied up. Centuries later, learned descendants of the spiritual teacher wrote scholarly treatises about the religious significance of tying up a cat for meditation practice."
Its from Zen Stories and i think that is very universal.
Do you guys know how Bible was created and edited? That it was a simple gathering of ppl with "religion power" and highest status who decided what to include and what to destroy as something out of the biblical canon? And what about this ultimate religious dedication of Jehova Witness prohibition of blood transfusion? Just look what was the origin of that ban and today consequences (they let smbody die cuz he has granted to be chosen to live in new heavenly kingdom)
Many ppl choose religions incredibly hard to follow cuz they want to be tested, like Abraham for example. That gives them a meaning of life. Imo that is NOT a true spirituality... ...but theres nothing wrong about it and everything on this world has its place and its as it should be....

if being sexually frustrated and having wet dreams all the time makes you happy, go for it dude. i gave up masterbating for almost a year one time, and you know what i replaced it with? sex.

Cpt Obvious, people don't wake up with an erect penis in the morning because of the "desire", people wake up with an erect penis in the morning because they felt the need to pee in the sleep so the body is automatically taking measures against unconcious urinal (so they don't pee in the sleep). And that measure is getting the penis erect.
Other than that i agree to your posts. I want to specify that in the past people believed the sperm should not be wasted because it's limited and even after they discovered it's not limited they thought the sperm get's worse in quality after every ejaculation. We in the modern world should know that it actually doesn't diminish it's quality and neither does it "stop producing".
Also about now we know the sperm is the result of a biological process and not it is like god gave you the "seeds" to fertilise the women and it's a shame that you waste it.
As another argument against abstitence i bring the studies that show how important is for the body to release the sexual tensions and most of all how important it is for the mind to release the sexual tensions.
Every (or like 99.9%) of the psychologists and anatomysts agree that masturbation is good, and from the point of psychology the only worry is that on certain people masturbation lower their self esteem / make them introvert / etc but that's not very common.

W00t. I agree. I'm Catholic, and I'm usually kind of embarrassed to say these things, cause everybody is like, "Wtf, your a man, do what feels right."
But honestly, masturbation is pretty much the equivalent of sex, except 1 person...so what I'm saying is do you go around banging random chicks because you feel like it? If you have a girlfriend, go ahead...although I won't because it's against my religion as well. But if you don't have a girlfriend, you'd probably have to find a new one every day, or rape someone. That turns you into an animal. Are we not more then animals to dictate self-control over ourselves?

Rebelheart this isn't directed to just this particular blog of yours or meant to offend you in anyway, but looking at some of your posts I get the feeling that you are seriously looking to outside authoritity for your ideas and structure in your life.
However, I think that the only good way to get some of this stuff is through self reflection and experience in life. Even if you think that the mainstream way of life is messed up or not satisfactory to you, it doesn't mean that you run automatically to the next school of thought that gives you the most definite and appealing answers. Very often, the fact of the matter is that there is no clear cut solution to some questions and you need to discover those for yourself. You need to question whether that definiteness of certain belief systems is through sound knowledge or through artificially closing one's mind off to questions, other viewpoints, or sometimes even plain facts.
Good luck on your journey in life.

that bit about having to pee during the night is bullshit, kids grow out of wetting the bed long before puberty (mostly). how do you explain that? and what if girls need to pee at night? i'm not a doctor but that just seems like common sense.. an erect penis always means there's a desire to proliferate.

It is true that the ability to control our instincts and basic longings to some extend by sheer willpower, and that distiguishes us from the animals. It is also true that, did we not control ourselves in that way, the world would be one fucking awful place. It is common sense that sexuality is kept to private and not "over-done". It is an agreement that made civilisation as such possible at all. But what I am saying is not that you are a lesser man for not fulfilling your bodily needs, nor that one should try to exercise one's sexuality whenever nature calls, but that you are a fool to think you can bend nature's will with your own, and a fool to think that it makes you a better person, a better Christian, or in any other respect.
I agree with what Coagulation and Aphelion said, it is pointless. It does not achieve anything but maybe exercise and train your willpower, because I honestly would respect you for going without masturbation for a longer time. But it is that same kind of respect that I would show to martyrs. It is that respect totally free of envy or inclination to do likewise. If that's what you long for, then best of luck.
edit: on the morning stiffy issue: It may be true, for I do not necessarily feel the urge to orgasm, but still I'd like you to answer the girl argument, since they obviously would need other measures to prevent peeing the bed. Also I have only encountered this phenomenon during the last year when I went without masturbation for longer than a couple of days, how do you explain that? Coincidence?

Did you just equate masturbation with rape? -_-

Actually the much more likely scenario is that once you stop masturbating, you get so sexually frustrated that the risk of you raping someone skyrockets.

I love dismantling religious theories and tearing the guys ideas into pieces in mid-air.
My life would be meaningless without those people, at last something religion has done for me.
|
i read you wake up with an erect penis because you will almost most likely have an erect penis while dreaming as a man and it doesnt have to be a sexual dream, so if you dream just before you wake up you will have an erection. So if you have to pee it will be very hard for the erection to go away until you do :p.

The point is, most religions don't forbid masturbation to practice self-control or some shit, it is because they hold sexuality within the realm of marriage. Very simply, Christianity and catholics says that within marriage you may procreate and have sex even if it doesn't mean procreation: however, it has to be within marriage. By masturbating, you are not only gaining pleasure which makes sex just another way to gain it, but you are also destroying the concept of two people.
Many people will think I'm stupid, retarded, etc. But that is the view of my religion, and that is MY view, and I won't change it.

Then your even sadder and more than those people whose theories you destroy. Your life's meaning depends on religion as much as theirs do, but yours is a negative existence instead, you aim to destroy instead of create. And this is coming from a hardcore atheist.

The times, they are-a-changing, wizardpl. True, your point is valid. It is a problem in modern society that the idea of marriage becomes less and less popular. That can be seen in the ever-growing number of divorces. I do not argue that the whole idea of marriage and monogamy should be abandoned, but you will have to agree that in modern society people can well exist without it. There is no need anymore for women to be married to a man to hunt her food and protect her from peril. There isn't even a need for intercourse anymore due to modern medical science.
But I still don't see why masturbation should pose any threat to leading a successful family life at a later point in your life, given you have the will to pursue such goals. Or taking another point of view, how would abandoning masturbation help you get to a happy, lasting marriage with a woman you truly love as opposed to not giving up on masturbation? Because the only thing that changes for sure and most remarkably is your heigthened lust for sexual pleasure. Is this how you wish to choose your future ways, guided foremost by your sexual instinct?
I have made the experience that every time if relieved that pressure, I was able to look at things more clearly, that I was able to judge things more rational, less influenced by my hormones. It is in that state of mind, and in no other, that I would advise any man to choose a company for the rest of his life.

well, i only read the first page and when i saw it was going on long on this one too, i quit. So instead of giving my un-trhead-informed opinion, i'll just quote steve jobs (the guy of apple) which pretty much reflects my views:
"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
So, basically, that. Do it if you feel inside yourself it's right, not because some religion makes you fell guilty about it. It will require a lot inner strength and will to pull it off (mostly from you subconsciouses). I have been on that same path before, quit masturbation due to religious beliefs. And it... well, i learned from it after i quited religion altogether, but made me feel rather miserable in the meanwhile and separated from all the rest of the people of my age i met.
