For this edition i will only look at comebacks which happened since august, i obviously didn't listen to every single release (probably even only quite a small fraction of them all) so keep that in mind. If you think a crucial comeback is missing, just post it in here and i might check it out if i didn't already.
So without further ado, here are my top 10 comebacks (will post the title track as video and link to my favorite song):
10. Loona - [+ +] (EP)
Loona finally debuted after basically 2 years of promotion with their first full group EP.
Overall it's a decent debut, but out of the 6 songs i will probably only listen to "favorite" in the long run. Rest of the songs are ok, but nothing which stands out to me really.
(only posting one video, because my "favorite" song got a video on top of the title track)
9. Twice - Yes or Yes (EP)
This was Twice's third korean comeback this year (and there are even rumors of another one quite soon). I sadly have to say that this one is only marginally better than the last one imo. I never really loved all their b-sides, but usually the title tracks were what i enjoyed. "Yes or Yes" definitely trumps "Dance the night away", but it also doesn't come close to "likey", "heartshaker" or "what is love". Anyway, my favorite song on this (despite the opening) is "Young & Wild". JYP, pls give me more of these kinds of songs
The music video to yes or yes is still fun though, not gonna lie
8. Red Velvet - Summer Magic (EP)
I usually enjoy Red Velvet's releases quite a lot, this was sadly also on the weaker side of things imo. It's still a fun experience the first listen, but what i am searching for are songs which i would like to listen to on the regular basis. (i still listen to "bad boy" for example). They will have a comeback later this month which will probably land on the next edition of these kpop blogs (hopefully higher :D) but i didn't wanna that long so here we are. My favorite song is definitely "With you", just a catchy one which showcases their voices quite well.
7. Ikon - New kids: continue (EP)
Ikon had two comebacks since last time, their latest EP didn't do it for me at all personally. YG pushed them a lot this year after their incredible success of "love scenario" (which is probably the most successful song in a long time) and this EP was quite the good release i think. Out of the 5 songs there is no real flop and 3 of them are at least now still on my playlist. Favorites would be "killing me" and ""Only you".
6. (G)I-dle - Hann (single)
They only missed my last list due to me liking twice more (their debut EP quality wise definitely would have deserved a top5 placement there), but this time around i cannot ignore them anymore. It's only a single but it's probably their best song so far. So-yeon stands out again with her special sound, the song is pretty addictive and g-idle are definitely the rookie of the year for me. Excited to see what comes next!
5. Sunmi - Warning (EP)
First things first, there is no gashina type banger on this EP but the quality of all the songs is still fairly high and at least 3 out of 5 are what i want in kpop. Sunmi cements herself as a top soloist with this addition to her discography (and her performances, definitely one of the best soloists in the business) and i am looking forward to her next releases.
Favorites would be the intro "addict", "Curve" and the title track "siren".
4. Dreamcatcher - Alone in the city (EP)
Outside of kpop i usually listen to rock/metal so it was a nice surprise to find a group which has some of the guitar sounds i enjoy. Obviously it's more a mainstream, poppy sound, but it still adds a lot to the kpop scene regardless. Their newest release is a 5 song EP and it's probably my favorite of theirs so far. All the songs are pretty good and diverse in genre so it was hard to come up with favorites, but in the end i decided that "wonderland", their take on reggae tones "July 7th" and the title track "what" are the standouts on this EP.
3. Exo - Don't mess up my tempo (album)
The only full album on this list (spoiler ) and also essentially the first real contact i made with Exo outside of maybe 2 other songs before. I definitely can see why they were the top male group in kpop before bts. This is a very good release, their vocals are probably the best out of any male group and musically this will speak to anyone who enjoys some solid R&B sounds. Favorites are "gravity", "damage", "oasis", "sign" and the title "tempo" (listen to that a capella bridge :O)
2. Jennie - Solo (single)
This release is obviously extremely new and thus maybe a little inflated on my list, but Blackpink is simply my favorite group so it's not surprising right The only real flaw for me is the rather short running time of 2:48, an added bridge would have helped here. Other than that i am perfectly happy with the song. It's Teddy (the composer) pure and i enjoy his stuff, what can i say. Hopefully the other BP girls get their "solo" soon as well.
1. IU - BbiBbi (single)
I always knew IU existed, but i never really checked her out for some reason. Well thankfully noticing this single changed this completely. This "comeback" was a special gift for her fans, celebrating her 10th year after her debut. What can i say, i love the chill vibe of this song, i love her soothing voice, i love the music video and the lyrics. Pretty much perfect in my book, nothing flashy by any means but this will stay a very long time in my playlist. I obviously also checked out a lot of her older stuff now and she basically instantly became one of my absolute favorites. Because she is first and i wanna showcase more than just one song, i'll just add a 2015 release on top of it, check out both
So what do you guys think? What were your favorite comebacks in the last 3 months or so? Anything you think should definitely be on my radar here? Let me know
