I'm hardly old, just recently finishing college, but one thing that I like about these video games is they don't change to me.
I can obviously never go back in time 5 years to where I was, but watching a game of SC2 can bring me back to 2010 when it was the most enjoyable thing in the world to me.
When I was in high school Sc2 was just coming out and it was the greatest thing to me. I used to stay up and play BGH with my friends till midnight every night and my dad would wake up to get some water/use the restroom and tell me to go to sleep for school.
He passed away a few years ago - just after I entered college tbh. I always figured he held on till I was in college before going - he had serious brain cancer for about 2 years.
I guess most TL readers are in the US, and maybe this is more obvious to most people, but SC2 players really don't seem to have a ton of money. I never much thought about that in college, when a 10k tourny win seemed like the greatest thing to me - it's not like every sc2 player is winning these tournies monthly.
I kind of look at people, especially watching the Koreans who put of their military service as staying in Neverland, and I mean that in the most complementary way possible.
Real life is unavoidably calling them - once they enter military I guess most of them go on to other stuff. I read about BW players taking jobs like being an actor, being a minister, being a chef.
But for a few years that's all on hold to bring us these entertaining Starcraft matches.
I guess it's a good thing SC2 korea time is like midnight US time too, always when I want to watch.
Anyway, not sure where I was going with this, but I'll end with a thanks for all the Starcraft players and commentators, and you TL crowd who give my entertaining live report and power ranks. Cheers~
