and I can't even get a solid build order down Time to get a solid build order down. I find myself getting screwed over by cheese (build order) or a smurfs unless you are the unluckiest person ever to play this game, you're not running into that many smurf accounts. I play in gold/platinum a lot and there happen to be a lot of players that are probably as good as league higher but don't play enough to advance any further than they are. You can become better than them by being more experienced obviously. My question is has anyone else tried something like this and do you guys think its possible People have done bronze to masters before (obviously this doesn't have a terribly high success rate). But yes it is definitely explored and possible. I honestly think if I keep at it I may get to high diamond, but is this just a bit too ambitious? No, you can probably do it unless you are too lazy, or too uncoordinated, or not focused enough, or too busy, or various other things. Requires a lot of disciplined practice though

you're platinum? Why is a diamond coaching you going to help? Try to find pro/high level advice if you can and you're serious (even second-hand is better than some random guy a league up) Ummm im Gold and he got his terran training from a GM so yeah....

[/QUOTE] If he got training from a GM doesn't matter, he's still diamond. If he's charging you, you can find a masters/GM for the same price I guarantee it. But in general it sounds like your biggest issue is lack of build order, get a build order. You can get to masters with just 1 build order if you really wanted to. Also takes a lot of practice (more then playing 1-2 games a day for example).

1. just become REALLY solid in 1 build order in 1 match up, it doesn't matter what build aslong as it isn't 6 pool I got myself from gold to diamond in about 2/3 3 weeks by only 4gating^^ 2. remember that making mistakes is a good thing, without them your gameknowlage will be far less than other people and this is a skill that will make you win these unwinable games. 3. play consistantly, its more important to keep playing a few games a day then a bunch in 1 day. both work, but the first one is more efficent and more easily when it comes down to tracking progress. I would also greatly advice listening to the day[9] podcasts, first neewbie teusday and the mechaniques video he did. those are all you need to get to masters in a few months, http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/bw-strategy/89581-day-podcasts-e14-tvz-on-heartbreak-ridge

EDIT: Forgot to mention that when I first got masters it was top 5%, now it's top 1.5% (nios.kr) so it's quite a bit more difficult to get it.

don't practice on ladder. practice and play are completely different beasts (this is true in many fields/sports as well). practice vs AI or vs no opponent (or build order trainers if they still exist). Focus on getting your build orders / macro first. Also very important is to review if there's any obvious things holding you back. (How are your hotkeys? Settings -does the game run smooth? etc.)

Try to learn the timings and counters. Dont stick to a specific build but rather adapt. watch his stream, he always helps people http://www.twitch.tv/neurostarcraft Good Luck, protoss players have gotten into masters by cannon rushing, i dont see how you could not do it! I feel like masters to gm is 10x harder (in terms of effort) than bronze to masters at least on eu/kr servers, and I also found diamond to masters much harder than bronze to diamond. EDIT: Forgot to mention that when I first got masters it was top 5%, now it's top 1.5% (nios.kr) so it's quite a bit more difficult to get it. The player base has gotten smaller so skill level has gone up.
