Myself and Torenhire have been playing Divinity: Original Sin.

With Torenhire playing a paladin, I volunteered to dump all the points I would have spent in “personality” or “charisma” into “intelligence” and “willpower.” This was definitely a noble and good-hearted act, in no way an effort to make a character with as many spells as possible. While a great way to ensure that you’re a master of the arcane, it also guarantees you’re the kind of person no one wants to talk to.

The initial idea was for us to operate as a good cop/bad cop duo. Travis would be a friend to all, promising to solve their problems, while I would make any uncomfortable decisions and recommend that we take unpopular courses of action. In reality, I ended up feeling less like a “bad cop” and more like the “unlikeable shitbag” of our adventure.

That poor mutt, he died to save us... also, I had genuinely forgotten I had an afro.

By the time we were offered an extra perk, I weighed my options and eventually resigned myself to taking “stench.” The smell discourages people from attacking you in combat, but also automatically makes anyone you might encounter significantly less likely to appreciate having you around. The end result is that people like me even less, but I’m more likely to survive fights.

As you can imagine, I was over the moon when we discovered the one character that has enjoyed having me around so far. That character was a dog… too stupid or too lovely to hate me for my various failings. During the course of a murder investigation, I took it upon myself to exhume a corpse. When we did, it helped direct our investigation. The dog that had been moping around the grave took a shine to us.

At the far corner of the cemetery, there was a woman mourning her young daughter. Travis went to lend her a noble shoulder to cry on. Somewhere in their long dialogue, I read that she ‘just couldn’t believe’ her daughter was gone. High on the triumph of having made a friend and dug up a body, I determined this to be a sure sign of another case to investigate.

I dug out my shovel and started digging, informing Torenhire that there was nothing more noble than an investigative team willing to desecrate a whole cemetery worth of graves to get to the truth. I was as surprised as anyone else when the girl's body came out of the earth. I tried to check her pockets to see if there were any clues, at which point the woman beside us flew into a frenzy and attacked me.

The dog we had known for all of two minutes flung itself on her. Somewhere in the ensuing scuffle, she killed the dog I had already come to think of as my only friend in the world. Travis killed her to save me, my stench proving an inexplicably ineffective defense.

Since then, I've made every possible decision that would make me more unlikable. After all, my only friend has already died. Torenhire has to keep me around, but only because we work together. We’re partners, not friends. So far, ours is very much the True Detective run of Divinity.

In a fantasy world where we could be anything we want, Travis is a holy knight, a representative of a sacred order dedicated to crushing fell magics.

I am a homeless wizard.

If you aren't getting the gist of it from the above, Divinity is a 10/10 game. I ran around town seminude until NPCs complained so much that Torenhire made me wear clothes.

Interesting looking game, I always love a good and evil dynamic. From KOTR to Fable, to Mass Effect I think I made a conscious effort to never do anything good if I could avoid it.

This game is absolutly brilliant. I'm currently at 60+ and still not finished my 1st run :o
Definitly should try in coop. There is a 4 players coop mod already btw.

I'm sorry Kip, I have to finish my adventures with Torenhire first. So far, we've almost finished a quest! If my calculations are correct, we should be finished by October of 2023...

So was there like an option that said "dig grave" or how sandbox is this game?
Can you play all of it in Coop?

You can play all of it in co-op

The option was there to exhume any of the graves in the graveyard, as long as you had a spade. In hindsight, I admit that Torenhire's attempts to console the bereaved woman may have been the stronger play.

I am playing the shit out of this game currently, I am on my second runthrough :D
I'd give it an 8/10 simply because its still slightly buggy and because combat can be easily abused if you really want to ^^

Oh I see.
No I disagree. Playing the bad guy often gets you access in the most entertaining aspects of a game. The way Kadaver describes it makes it sound like close to Oblivion / Skyrim? Looks pretty similar as well.

It is nothing like Oblivion/Skyrim. It is turn based, isometric, party based classic RPG similar to Baldur's Gate.
As a result it is much better than Oblivion/Skyrim unless all you want is random walking and fighting random wolves and bandits and doing quest that have 0 effect in the world.

This game is so cooooool
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

The game is sort of what would happen if Skyrim and Baldur's Gate did a fusion dance.

Also SirJolt and SirToren are probably the worst adventurer pair out there. The following is an actual dialogue our characters had in game.

Sir Toren: Hello, friend. I don't know if you noticed, but last fight that fireball happened to catch me on fire. Might I ask you are a bit more careful in the next encounter?
Sir Jolt: Well maybe if you weren't so big and stupid, it wouldn't have hit you.

I don't remember my reply to that but it was something along the lines of, I am sorry I brought that up, I won't mention it again.

SUCH A DICK

You guys who love your good/evil complex games have no idea. Black and White is the ultimate in this genre of decision making affecting gameplay.

You're a god, train your creature to be good and gentle, or to stop on your villages, crap on their houses and corpses, and eat them. you can train your creature not only simple actions like stepping on villagers, but complex actions such as step on them, throw them at their house, and then fire a fireball at their house and do that reliably if you leash them aggressive style or to your village squares.

The entire plot of the game is about trying to survive another destructive god, and the entire game is a development not only of you on an alignment scale, but also your creature.

There's so many endless hours of joy in setting villager's kids on fire in front of them or trying to build the most massive villages by helping them grow with wood and grain spells.
There's no reason blizzard can't release new units or fixes to a game without creating another costly "expansion" you've already paid 100$ for, unless they want to treadmill the gambler with future promises of "it gets better"

Surprised people like it so much... I only played a bit at the start, but I was really put off by how bad the writing is. I feel like the story is the most important part of an RPG, and the fact that my characters are completely generic and every dialogue is more or less downright stupid took the motivation from me. The actual combat was pretty decent though.

You gotta get the Pet Friend skill/feat or whatever so you can talk to animals. The animals know stuff that nobody else does and will give you quests. The poor graveyard dog was distraught.

You didn't play Divine Divinity? It's not a game that takes itself very seriously. And it takes a while to actually get into the atmosphere. Also felt the same initially with the Larian games, but it gets better the further you get into it. Kirill adds a lot to it though.
I'm taking whatever coverage I can get, because frankly, I'm busy working on this million dollar deal at my job. Early retirement is a good thing brotha man. - MessengerASL
