Now, at long last, my studies are finished. I got my "Agrégation de mathématiques", which means I'll have the great pleasure to teach maths to very smart and interested youngsters. And if they are not, I'll try to make them so ! It won't be easy given how little I know about teaching, but I couldn't be more happy. After my two years of depression to have finally solved most of my problems, a job I wanted to do and I feel is important, a very cool girlfriend, many books read and even more to read, great friends and family and whatnot... I want to mention something else : while I don't want to exagerate the importance of it, when I was most depressed broodwar and quite a few people on tl helped me to get through those though times. The time I spent here certainly was a symptom of my problems, but I could have ended up in a much worse community. So thanks to all the posters I like - I won't mention you, I fear I'd forget someone !- and to everyone who has ever done something for bw, much love !

Congratulations! I teach math as well, and you're right that it's not easy (regardless of how experienced you are).
As long as you're receptive to your students and students' needs, and not insisting that you know how to teach perfectly already, you should be fine. Each student and each class is different, and will present you with new challenges and opportunities As long as you're passionate and care about helping the kids, you'll be on the right track! Hopefully you'll pick up useful teaching methods quickly.

Fuck yeah. I could tell that something good had happened, based on some facebook posts and my severely lacking French skills. I look forward to the hybrid critical theory/calculus classes I'm sure you'll go about creating

Awwwww! 5/5 félicitations corum! maths can very hard to understand as a pupil, and very few people can teach it effectively. Bonne chance, mon ami!

Congrats though! Have you started looking for work yet? Of course it's very dependent on where you live but in my province it's really hard to find full-time teaching work. So many people end up moving elsewhere because it's so difficult.

Congrats on finishing and getting into the fun world of math lol. Glad to see that things are working out for you and wishing you the best!

Congratz ! And good luck

It's funny cause I really didn't like math in high school, but now, it feels so easy and natural. I mean, I spent three years doing a french language and literature degree and now that I'm picking up computer science, everything feels so easy haha. Good luck teaching though. From my experience, it's incredibly hard to do properly, but very rewarding.

Great job corum, wish you all the luck in future!
Btw, if the kids you're teaching don't like math you can always just try to teach them BW (although that seems harder for the kids..)

Grudgematch between Corum and DPB for who is the best math teacher?

what, have them both record lectures and we vote on who's better?

Congrats! Hope you can find a nice high school where students are genuinely interested in maths, it's rare nowadays. Or can you teach in prépa schools?
