I wrote a blog on TL about why we created LiquidDota. Unfortunately we don't have shared forums (lol the irony) so I'm just posting here to let you know.

The real reason Nazgul split off LiquidDota is clearly so that he can have a bloodseeker Icon without giving up his Nazgul head icon on the SC2 forums.

I'm on to you.

On Topic: As somebody else important mentioned (I forget who), it essentially boiled down to "Our site wasn't growing as much as we want, so this is our chosen course of action to stimulate growth based on our beliefs as to why it hasn't been growing". Which is of course completely reasonable and as Nazgul said the people who complain are already regulars and unlikely to simply end their participation in a community whereas the people who benefit the most are the yet-to-be-users.

Fair points all around. But mainly the Bloodseeker one.

This site looks so sick. I appreciate all the hard work you put in so that this site could be born. Thank you Nazgul.

I share similar sentiments. I appreciate all the hard work you guys and this certainly helps with the idea of growing the Dota section. It does need some minor changes, but overall I love it so far. Looks good and can't wait to see what comes of this.

I suppose I should also mention that I *love* the shared-community-forums plan. It really helps indicate to the community that you want this to be "Dota getting it's own site" (good thing) as opposed to "TL getting rid of Dota" (what I felt happened with Hearthstone).

I'd be curious to hear a comparison of the success of LiquidDota vs LiquidHearth though, maybe after a few days?

I think this post highlights a need for check boxes for all liquid sites when you post a blog. Would be great if you could post it to more than one liquid site if it is relent to more than one or a community area kind of blog. Would be great if the whole blog could be shared with replies too.

If the community sections can be integrated from TL.net I'll be really happy. I know it isn't an easy task, but I think that is something that a lot of people are upset about.

I'm a long time user and I've played all three games extensively, though never did I play any of the games simultaneously. Personally, I'm happy that the staff took the time to look at the user experience of those people who are lurkers (I can relate).

I DID use the filters and my news page and stream list were completely Dota 2 related for a long time before this split. I already kind of felt as if I was on Liquiddota.com. Now the stream list is now even better, more focused on what I enjoy. Hopefully now the user population can increase a little bit due to this split (that is supposed to benefit the quieter, new users). Hopefully we'll get more in depth guides here. Hopefully we get those content creators that do amazing write ups like we had for Brood War back in the day (and still do have). We need those people to make the Dota content on this network be on par with the content created on teamliquid in the past. It hasn't really happened yet, and the staff are trying with this move to IMPROVE everyone's Dota experience.

I, for one, have a lot of faith in the staff here to create an environment that fosters good content and interesting debate. I look forward to seeing where this goes!

(I also want the forums to be strongly linked with the rest of the network!)

Do you guys think that eventually you will apply this makeover to the original site? I think having a shared community forum would be really sick. Hopefully you guys look into that <3.

If the general forums from TL were cross linked here I wouldn't have any problem spending most of my time on this site. I watch DotA way more than SC2 now days but being able to monitor and contribute to the general forum section on TL was a major factor in me even making an account and coming to TL multiple times a day.

I'd made the suggestion in another thread on TL. But even only showing sections like General here on LD when logged in and adding those specific sections through filtering would be amazing. Newer users would never see them so they don't get daunted. Only those who specifically wanted to use LD and pull in certain TL forum sections would see them. It keeps the 2 sites separate while allowing the veteran users access to the threads and sections they've followed and contributed to on one site.

Other than the fact that some of those major forum sections that made TL feel alive are missing I do like the look and feel of the site overall better than TL. The right sidebar is a massive upgrade, it's a little more clean and colorful looking here, the favorite team logos are cooler, etc. Just those missing forums make me cry.

Edit: As I said before over on TL. I don't even know if this suggestion is even possible, you'd have to ask R1CH. But it's sort of a best of both worlds idea. Keeps things out of sight, out of mind for new visitors but gives us who have been here a while and miss TL threads the option of seeing them from 1 hub.

I'm glad that Dota has its own website. Now I can introduce my friends to the forums because they were reluctant before since the TL.com was so clutter with starcraft stuff that they weren't interested in.

I am glad that the new website is in place. A little sad that general discussion seems to have been a little stifled by the move. It has always been a fun place to hang out with like minded doters. But such is change.

The site is nice and I like the side bars. You still have my Esports dollars.

Initially, I wasn't too crazy about the General sub-forums not getting linked, but I don't think it's that big of a deal jumping between TL SC and Dota.

The new site looks great! I'm really liking the team flares, and I can't wait to see TL's Dota site grow!

The biggest problem with having separate, unlinked general subforums isn't a matter of convenience, it's that it then becomes possible for seperate, unrelated community discussions to arise in LiquidDota. This could be seen as a good thing, but it becomes exceedingly hard for participants on both sides to manage, because how the hell do you keep track of like LD GoT thread vs. TL GoT thread--particularly when there's partial but not complete overlap between the communities? How do you keep track of who said what where, etc?

The end result then becomes people will just end up choosing only one of them because it becomes too hard to manage two discussions about the same thing, which therefore leads to fragmenting of the community.

If I had an interest in all these games and poker, I might feel it's getting too fragmented. For me it's now a matter of visiting TL for almost anything but SC2 content, and visiting Liquiddota (LD?) for the game I'm actually interested in.

When you split off Hearthstone I didn't care, because I had no interest in the game. But now I definitely feel this site is separated from the TL community and I struggle to see why TL itself cannot be some metasite with the different portals directly connected, other than the technical challenge it is. It's certainly much easier to do it this way, but I'm not really a fan

Dunno the CS:GO thread is moving slowly, I lost my passion for PoE and TL+ isn't in a spammy phase so thats basically it for what I checked outside the Dota forums

E: oops didn't realize what thread this is in I suppose you weren't quite asking in the general manner that I answered

ya and we won't benefit from the overall higher IQ and deeper discussion of the SC2 community.

Although I understand the reason, I'm really left dissatisfied with the decision for a number of reasons that have already been said.

I always thought of TL as a "special home" mostly because the site happened to support both the games I share interest with and also for it's ability to attract like minded people. I also believe TL's move to support DotA alongside Starcraft help attribute the fact that people that came from an exclusive Starcraft background went on to try and love DotA as well.

I didn't bother to look back at it but I do remember when TL.net began supporting DotA, it came with a statement that was made very clear that supporting the game just felt "right". That stuck with me personally because looking back at it retrospect, I completely agreed that adding DotA to the TL.net just felt natural to me.

Hey Nazgul, I generally agree with your reasoning, however I still browse TL.net for a lot of things like general discussion, other games, blogs, and streams (for BW). I was wondering if you could add dota 2 back to the streams section. It would be very convenient for me to see tournaments and top tier players streaming from TL. Even if it's just a link that brings you over here when streams are happening, that would be very convenient for me, and of course it could still be turned off by people who just like SC.
good vibes only

I think splitting up the site like this is good. It is easier to find the tournaments I want to watch and read the articles which interest me. However it would have been nicer if site jumping would have been smoother.
