It should come as no surprise due to my lack of streaming / participation in tournaments over the past year that I have been considering moving away from the Starcraft scene for some time now. In fact this post feels poorly timed but I would like to make it anyway. Although the recent decline in the Starcraft scene in general has aided in my lack of passion for the game, ultimately it is not the reason for my withdrawal from the scene. I've always been exceedingly competitive at anything I decide to put my focus into, and i've had a focus for Starcraft like nothing else. That being said after not achieving the desired result eventually you've got to throw in the towel and move on. I still don't regret any of it, being part of this wonderful community has given me countless experiences that I would never have received otherwise. Along with those experiences I have also met my best friends who I look forward to knowing for many years to come. I would also like to say that I feel very fortunate to be part of such an amazing team as Evil Geniuses. EG has given me opportunities that are unavailable anywhere else. I was able to be housed with my best friends, practice and compete with some of the most talented players at the forefront of the scene, and they helped me build a name and following for myself. EG is the reason I have been able to follow my dream.
From here I plan to go back to school and become a physical trainer for the time being. As I am getting older I've started to realize the importance of fitness and exercise in everday life as well as the enjoyment that comes from it. I also plan on competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the near future. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is something I've missed for the past few years and would like to dive back into.
I do plan on leisurely streaming Starcraft 2 as well as survival horror games and other games in the future so this won't be the last you've seen of me. Thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout the years, you guys are amazing and I would not have been able to do it without you.

Hmm...Machine leaves SC2 the same time as IdrA...we always knew they were the same person!
Sorry to see you go Machine, loved seeing you in all the promo stuff that EG put out (no more Machine vs Food ). Also loved seeing you machine-mode through those survival horror games awhile back. Would've loved to see you make one more deep run in a tourney, but sadly not to be.
Good luck to you.

Still remember being super excited about watching you stream on the KR server for the first time...
GL in your future! And I hope this thread will stay clearer of hate posts than Idra's, there is no need to state anything like that when somebody moves on.

Not a huge surprise. Best of luck!

Sad to see you go, was a pleasure to play all those games on ladder last year.
Personally if I were to quit as well, I'd probably also divert my time and energy back into BJJ. The sport felt to me much like a physical version of a chess match - as I'm sure you've experienced! Best of luck :D
|
Best of luck. Looking forward to cathing you stream in the future.

Without a doubt one of the nicest people in SC and, if I may be so bold, the best damn actor in competitive gaming.

Good luck buddy. I doubt you remember this, but I got a chance to talk to you briefly at MLG providence. I saw you and Axslav standing off to the side of the hallway outside of the main convention room. We didn't chat for long but I got to shake your hand and let you know that I enjoyed your stream. I think you might have even signed something one of my buddys pushed in front of you haha. Anyways, best of luck!

GLHF Machine! You are one of the most genuinely amazing and nice people in NA esports. Never change man.

best of luck, Machine. For me you were one of those guys who made me think, that EG isn´t just a promotion and attention whore, but an organisation that cares about the well being of the the industry, the players, the fans and most importantly the individuals involved.
No that it has come to an end may be a great opportunity for you. Use it well and all the best!

Such a decent bloke with a chill stream and sweet chats. Loved your insight and explanations as you played, always thought you deserved more viewers. But hey, it is what it is, sadly the most eye-balls are drawn away from info and chill otherwise you and Nony would both have 40k while streaming. My two fav streamers since way back when man, not been the same.
Stay chill, enjoy life and remember to appreciate the small things. Life is great.

You are far and away one of the most well rounded streamers I have watched on Twitch in recent years. I always felt welcomed and part of your channel. So for that and the time and effort you put into it, Thank you! Best of luck to you in your new endeavors.

I definitely like to think back to when you Idra, Incontrol answered questions from Anna and made a lot of videos EG related. All the times Incontrol mentioned you in SotG gave us a really good picture of just how nice a person you are. Glad to hear you arent leaving entirely!

Yeah, Machine best pizza eater on EG easy, that was awesome .
But it really makes you wonder what EG's plans are for the sc2 division.
With LzGamer, Machine, IdrA, Revival, aLive, Oz and Stephano gone, iNcontrol playing less and less and Thorzain being part time it's only Huk, Demuslim, Jaedong and JYP left. I wonder if they will pick up more players. Currently there are hardly enough to compete in teamleagues and with all the cuts/retirements they should've enough budget to get new players.
|
Hey Machine back in WoL beta when I was playing Zerg you were the player I tried to emulate the most. Sorry things didn't quite work out as planned. Best of luck in the future.

Best of luck to you.

Wow IdrA retires twice in one week
GLHF Machine!

One of the most consistent class acts in the scene. We'll miss you, but best of luck!!

I'd really suggest getting into the athletic training major if you want to do anything with athletes at all. From there on you can decide to just keep that, or take the CSCS (certified strength and conditioning specialist) test and add that on to your credentials, but I would really encourage you to look into the AT avenue.
|
Always been such a nice guy, good luck machine!
|
This retirement thread really ticked me off. You haven't streamed or competed or done ANYTHING in a year. Now you decide to make a retirement thread which everybody hates seeing to begin with and then take a cheap shot saying SC2 being in decline influenced your decision but not really. Really? Just hit the door and be thankful you got to freeload off this game. Those of us who still love and play the game don't want to hear you talking about the games decline in your pitiful retirement thread. Why not say something positive to inspire the up and coming pros? The same goes for "Idra" and his cheap shots in his "retirement thread".
Anyway, have fun sniffing another guys junk in your BJJ escapades brah.

Ya that's a little frustrating, but honestly just because he writes a thread to say bye to his fans and the scene and to give an update on what he's thinking about doing as a transition doesn't make him a "freeloader" or whatever. I would've loved to see some more positive posts and no cheap shots, but hey that's out of my control so there's no reason letting it ruin my day.
Peace out Machine, you were a chill dude and it sounds like you are happy with your decision, good luck man.
|
Definitely one of the nicest guys in the scene. Sadly, what many people thought was coming came at last.
Sorry to hear you didn't achieve some of your goals in SC2 result wise, but best of luck on your future endeavors Machine.

GL in going back to school Machine. And thanks for giving us an announcement on what we knew was coming so that we could have some closure and give you the kudos you deserve.

Glad to see you're not getting tripped up in SC2 if/when it's something that you don't think you're going to be successful in, and especially glad to see you've already got some things in mind that you are planning to pursue. I think it's fair to say you have a lot of passion when it comes to fitness and physical activity.

Ahhh sad to see you go man. I still love the videos that PsyonicReaver put up when you guys were housing together with all that nonsense about hot sauce and what not. You really made me laugh with your videos and the moments of glory you had in starcraft, especially your series vs Bomber in MLG 2011. I'll still look for your youtube channel for more funny videos you put up!
|
Bless, buddy. You were my underdog of choice, always a cool guy with a lot of humility and talent. Best of luck to you in the future and I hope you achieve great things!
|
If you're gonna learn BJJ are you going to finish it off with muay thai/kickboxing training for a full MMA repetoire? I find a lot of people tend to do that. I have to say that I've been on this site since sc2, so I'm not one of the old guard, but you have been consistently one of the most down to earth, coolest sc2 people around. Congratz on having a great sc2 career, and I hope your life is full of successes like this was for you .

Loved watching the way you played. Good luck with everything!

This is sad though not unexpected. I wish you the best in whatever you get into, Bryce. You always appeared like a very nice and friendly person, it's sad that you didn't achieve what you wanted in SC2. It's been cool to see you from the very beginning of the SC2 scene.
Good bye to EG's "Good guy"
|
Hello Bryce. I have a real question (that maybe will sound like an ass question but in fact it's not) and i don't know if you can answer it.
You entered EG a long time ago and you did not put tournament wins on the table, you were behind Demuslim and idrA on your streaming and you didn't go on much show.
So why did EG kept you around ? I'm really curious. Is it just because EG is family ? Is it because you were a wonderfull practice partner ? Something entierly different ? Or maybe i'm wrong on my three statement.
It's an honnest question. I always wondered. Good luck with all of what you'll try to do
Will keep watching your stream when have time and when it's on

Thanks allot for the time hours you put into streaming, you saved me many hours of boredom!

I think we can expect an avalanche of retiring pros in near future, SC2 is below expectations and there is strong competition from mobas .

Hope your life turns out well. Thanks for all of your efforts. You vs Inc @MLG 2010 (I think?) was one of the first games of SC2 I ever saw.
Good luck and, again, thank you.

Or a lot of people have been around for say 4 years, not achieved much, and have decided that they need to get on with "real" life where they can accomplish things. if you look at how many SC2 players there have been, and consider it's been about 4 years now since SC2 began, having people retire isn't that surprising if they aren't at the top of the game, because they've tried, not got the success they wanted, and are moving on to other things.
If you keep playing a videogame forever when you aren't at the top level, it doesn't help you much financially, and it really screws you in the long term because you're putting off the rest of your life.
Machine already said he basically dropped BJJ while playing SC2, Idra put off his education etc. You make sacrifices, and there's a point at which the sacrifice isn't worth it and you need to move on, and while 3 or 4 years is a long time in some respects, it's probably close to the "move on" timescale.

Admire you for having the courage to chase your dreams, and having the courage to realize it wasn't working out for you and changing course. bravo!

She gets hyped up a lot but I've never managed to find a picture of her. It's like TL saying that there was this one match in Asus ROG that was the greatest game EVAR, but nobody links to the VOD or even says who faced each other.

One of my favorite members of my favorite SC2 team <3 Gonna miss you. Definitely one of the chillest pro-gamers I've ever had the honor of meeting and talking with. Best of luck with your future endeavors!

Don't bother. For some reason, people aren't capable of comprehending the idea that some of our favourite players have been in the scene a really, really long time, and are simply due for retirement.
Or, as you state, maybe 4 or 5 years not winning anything is simply a case of "I've not made it to a championship win, and I've given it the time it needed to do my best. I can stick around for ten years and maybe I'll get some insanely lucky run in a tournament and beat a lot of weak brackets by mostly luck, delegitimising my whole victory, or I can accept I'm no longer likely to gain championship form, cut my losses and retire with some dignity.
I'm sure nobody expects Usain Bolt to be running in the Olympics 10 years from now. Why people expect eSports pros to stick around for so long is beyond me.

I would love to see a fitness show with you and Geoff but i don't know if Geoff's busy schedule would allow it. Maybe have him as a guest from time to time haha.
I always enjoyed the Kingston HyperX commercials you were in and the EGMC games that you helped cast from time to time, best wishes in the future!

Good luck Machine! I'm happy to have been part of your stream of SC2 since the early days, I think you are a cool person and great personality. All the best.
