I've finally reached the last major post milestone recognized by TL, after five and a half long years. It's kind of interesting to think back to my early days of involvement in the competitive Starcraft community and realize how young and how much of a different person I was. When I first began watching TSL, GOMTV, OSL, MSL, reading the forums, and hitting the ladders of ICCup, I was 12 years old, still very much a child. Certainly I still am in a few ways, but over my time here I've become a totally different person. While in the last year or so the Starcraft community has been far less of a focus in my life than in the five years prior, I still claim that Starcraft and this community were things that greatly shaped my childhood. My biggest hobby, my biggest accomplishments, my most time wasted - all of these things were in Starcraft. When I retired from competitive Starcraft last April it was quite a milestone in my life, moving past a game that had defined me for many years. I'm proud to say that I think Starcraft and TL have been major positive influences on me as a person, and my experiences have been valuable and irreplaceable. Yesterday I stumbled upon some old chat histories from 2011 and reading through them I remembered just how closely knit I was in this community, and I ran upon a link to this quote:
You mentioned Pokebunny in your OP. This is an example of a young man who is the "one in a million," with both the talent, professionalism and history to warrant being on a professional team. For every one Pokebunny (and he may be one of a kind outside Korea), there are probably thousands or hundreds of thousands who aren't. - v1dom, manager of Eleven Gaming
This post was in a thread (ironically made by a 13 year old Xenocider, who has ended up becoming more talented and successful than I ever was) that complained about the difficulties of young players making a splash in the Starcraft world due to age restrictions. Even after I quit SC2 I still got messages from people occasionally saying how I inspired them as a young gamer, and that really made me happy - that I did something that made a difference in people's lives, even if it was just doing something I loved. I'm not vain enough to think that I'm unique or better than others in this regard, there have certainly been people like me that have been even more successful and influential, but I'm proud that I did accomplish something, and there is proof of that still out there. Gaming is still a big part of my life and I hope to make it pro in Dota 2, but it's not something I particularly expect or rely on, I'm not going to drop out of college for it nor am I going to throw aside other important things in my life.
Anyway, this blog doesn't have much of a point, more just a personal reflection spurred by seeing the number 9999 next to my name.
To six years and 10K more! See you again when I'm 24.
Nick

Not every 12-15 year old can say that a blackbelt threatened to beat them up either.

Grats on the 10k! I remember playing some games with you on iccup in the 'sd' chat channel, I think we were both c- at the time, but I stopped playing a while after. I was surprised to find out later that you were so young.

(he was clearly super motivated to win after sitting next to lilsusie and smix in restaurant that day) http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=180931
It's also pretty funny that Poke was threatened later again at a later LAN by someone else too.

This morning I got the thought in my head; what ever happened to Pokebunny... boy sure had skill but I haven't seen his name pop up anywhere in a while. Then I found out you kinda 'retired' in april 2013. Somehow I missed that message back then. I read up on some of your blogs (how you got started with SC2 etc. and eventually how you 'retired') and you seem like the real deal - a friendly, well-spoken, genuinely good guy/player, especially at such a young age
Congratz with the 10K posts and keep 'em coming, stay in the community!

I remember that one guy that threatened to beat you when you were 14 lol, I remember when I first started playing and you replied to my message once and it made my day haha. GLHF
