I was wondering if someone on TL could help me with a list of old games made anew. So i don't mean games that uses of franchise and redo the game from scratch like Tomb Raider wich is not the old game but a full new game (it's really nice BTW).
So i just bought Flashback, which is a renew of the old SNES/PC game of 1992 and i want to know if there are games that i missed.

- Age of Empire II HD (Steam) - Baldur's gate Enhanced Edition (Steam) - Baldur's gate II Enhanced Edition (Steam) - Starcraft and Brood War campaigns MODS for SC2 (sc2mapster.com or the SC2BW thread here on TL) - Brutal doom is a Doom2 with better animations, kind of same graphics. See page 2. - Projet on revamping Morrowind. See page 2. - Apparently DOTA 2 is the same game as DOTA1 in a different engine (see page 2)
So do you know other games ? If so please post a before and after screenshot I hope to find awesome old games revamped

Well BG enhanced edition is not really making the game anew. It's BG2 graphics so not really an improvement in my opinion. I get still put it there. But BG2EE is... well it's BG2 graphics but working fine on current system.

First line above the picture, the project is calles black mesa, was greenlighted on steam, should be on steam. Half life - Source is really not worth mentioning, it uses the old textures and models so look pretty much like 1. People got upset and developed black mesa, that uses source like it should be used for half life 1.

There is no HL Black mesa on Steam But i see that there is Half-Life : Before that is realesed tomorrow, but that looks like a single player mod for HL1.

really ? I thought the game was prettier. So i'll add it then
Freeman jumps into the dimensional portal to Xen. They didn't do Xen yet. I finished it; it was pretty decent, I liked the weapons and they added some new things in here and there. For a hardcore HL fan I think its worth a playthrough
I just bought Independence War 2 for ONE DOLLAR (:D) off of gog, now I'm hoping they release Freespace 2 as well. Then I can try to mod it for some nice fancy graphics.
I'm sorry but FF7 as not be redone. It's just some modding.
What is eve ?
And i don't understand ES games are never been redone.. Skyrim is a game ok but there is no Skyrim redone with graphical aspects as today (and the game is not that old). Maybe you are speaking of the HD mods ?
It doesn't really apply to this Check the Shadow warrior screenshot. You'll understand.

Sorry can google them too, restrictions
(sorry cant post pics here as it is restricted here at the office )
Oh. Resident evil 1 ? For GameCube ? i didn't thought about console games but yes the Playstation 1 game was redone for the Gamecube. Maybe you can find pics later (when you're done with work).

eve is a multiplayer spaceship game that has had graphics updates
If you are not sure what am i talking about, click the spoiler. You will understand. I'm talking about old games (for exemple flashback was a SNES games. So graphics are about as much as SNES could offer at the time) and it has been remake in 2013 for PC. It is the same game, that the 1992 but have graphics up to date.
Just click the spoiler in OP. I think you just read the title
If you are talking about EVE online it doesn't apply as well.
If for exemple, squaresoft was to realease Final Fantasy 7 with translation redone and Final fantasy 14 graphic, the game would apply to this thread.
DotA to Dota 2 is the most successful of these that I know of. Don't have wc3 installed at the moment so can't do a screenshot comparison. Google is failing me as well. :/
...there are also at least two other project (one rewriting the Morrowind engine, the other converting Morrowind to Skyrim engine, called Skywind) but neither of those are finished yet.
edit:
...kinda having issues finding a good before/after pic. qq.
Brutal doom is really weird. Graphics are the same but animation are quite different. For what i could watch it's Doom2 ? It looks cool. Do you know where you can buy it ?
Morrowind would be really cool. I'll try to add your pics when i can. Also where can i find it ?
Thanks all for you contribution.
@Kevin_sorbo Try DR HD before as it's not as good as the original and controls are REALLY clunky (it's a PC port from a TABLET game). If you can find it at 1$ go for it. But not for 10$ IMO. It's still fun. Finished it in 2hours.

Monkey Island as been revamped ? Do you have pics ? Links ?

Bought them didn't have time to played. I didn't realise they were remade and indeed they are I bought a lot of games on sale even i don't play them because i played the pirated version. And those games gave me value at their time and now i have the money. And if i want i can redo them. But at a slow pace since i'm older now and have responsability and such
On December 04 2013 14:34 ETisME wrote: I think some of the games actually lose their identity after getting the graphics updated, dunno, maybe just me though
I know what you mean. I have no problems playing the old games as graphics rarely affects me. But i'm all for it because for example my GF trust me on : "This game is good" but if graphics are too outdated she doesn't want to try it. Because she never experienced old games. So i'm glad i can make her play an old game because graphics are updated. She wanted to try monkey island after finishing Runaway but it was too ugly for her. Now i can give her the revamped one.

Yeah, the same dude that has being developing dota as a wc3 mod for like the past 5-6(he wasn't the first but he's the last one and the best by far) years was hired as the lead dev by valve to make dota2.

That doesn't make it the "exact same game" at all. Dota 2 is not Dota 1 with new graphics, that's silly. It's a new game even if it's very similar.

The same is true of most other examples as well. As soon as you switch engine you run into stuff that doesn't work the same. Dota 2 measuring stick for if something is a bug is, did it work this way in DotA? If yes, not a bug. If no, a bug. This goes from all stats on units to interaction of abilities that are plainly illogical.
With that way of looking at it you get as similar a game you can on different engines.
The differences they have added are in having MM, groups, in game watching of others games and an item shop for cosmetics.

Sorry i don't play it so.. Is this elligible or not ? I don't understand
This is an interesting list. I just thought I'd add something about Brutal Doom - that mod has had a lot of interest particularly over the last year or so, and it seems that a lot of people now see it as the best or default way to play Doom and Doom II. However, as quite a big Doom fan myself I thought I'd mention that there are a huge number of other ways to play Doom out there - Brutal Doom is just one.
For example, there's an excellent mod called Psychic which adds an RPG-like system of upgradeable secondary attacks and also purchasable items; another weapons mod called NecroDoom, which lets you pilot a mech and use weapons from the 1996 game NecroDome; and another called Nazis! which replaces all the enemies with (you guessed it) Nazis and all the weapons with WWII guns.
If you're interested in custom Doom maps, you could try Back to Saturn X. It's a huge pack of levels which use a beautiful custom texture set, very finely tuned game balance, and great custom music. I'd argue it's one of the most professional custom Doom WADs (or levels/level packs) out there and a great demonstration of how great Doom can be in 2013, without necessarily being all about massive amounts of gore!
These are just a few of my favourites - if anyone is interested in any more Doom files or mod suggestions, do let me know! I just feel that it's a shame that Brutal Doom gets so much of the attention these days when there is so much else out there.
No release date given, though large remakes like these usually take a very long time. But apparently according to a forum mod post a public beta is coming out soon.

that game was so epic!!!!
sadly they really fucked up the 'story mode' or whatever. driving still fun, but it takes forever to get to the adversary, and I don't remember exactly what they did, but they totally ruined the car upgrading aspect of it.
Death rally is really not that good. Be carefull to watch video before buying it. Or buy it at very low price.
I finished it in 3hours (if i recall) but to be fair the first game could be finished really fast too. Also i think you can DL for free and legally the first death rally on abandonware somewhere but i don't recall
