As I mentioned in my previous blog. I recently went to my second live sc2 event in my life, IEM NY. The main thing about this event that made it go above and beyond for me was the access to the player's area. In particular, the event was laid back (in a good way). As long as you don't disturb the players in the game, you could interact with the players freely. You could watch them play, chat with them, take pictures with them, and ask for autographs.
This blog is about the awesome story of how I became close friends with my favorite player ST Life:
Life has been my favorite sc2 player for a long time. He was my favorite player in part of WoL and remained my favorite player throughout HoTS. The reason he is my favorite player is because I admire his playstyle. I would characterize Life's playstyle as the following:
1. Constant annoying ling runbys to the point where if you are playing against him, you want to punch him in the face.
2. Ballsy best of X strategies. He consistently throws in early pools in any best of X series against top level players. I always think that the strat will not work, but he MAKES it work. For example, he did an early pool against HerO at IEM and did 0 damage at all. HerO blocked off with an additional gateway and then canceled it. Life had 6-8 lings for no reason at all just standing around and looked far economically behind. Then he proceeded to win the match with ease.
During the tournament, I had an epiphany. Maybe Life does an early pool in order to be MORE economical. The early lings not only allows him to get 3 hatch very quickly without any pylon cannon shenanigans but also scares the protoss to turtling for a small bit so he can drone freely. It's quite smart actually.
3. Ability to stop any army on creep and create a WTF moment for the casters. Just ask ToD.

HerO pushes towards Life's base with a powerful protoss deathball consisting of zealot, archon, voidray, phoenix and instant GG units. The supplys are DEAD EVEN. Life has 4 roaches and a corrupter in production the supplys are 171-159. But in terms of army supply, HerO has an advantage. Life then proceeds to do what he does best, and crushes HerO and pushes him back. Any other player would have lost at this moment.
So, now I will explain how I became good friends with Life at IEM NY:
We watch BW together. Even if it is only 10-15 mins before he has to go on stage against HerO. Warm-up is overrated and Life is a confident dude.

After Life 3-0ed HerO. I ran up to him and gave him a nice fist pound. He doesn't get fist pounds in Korea so he was extra happy in this photo.

I hope I have convinced you that Life and I are good friends and that he has told stories of me with all his Korean progamers after he got back. (Zealously, I know you are jealous)

Yeah coincidence. They were at the event and I met them so I lumped them together. I also already put EG and TL players in separate categories.

The main reason I wrote out the reasons I like Life so much is because during the event, someone asked me "Who is your favorite player here?" It went something like this:
Random fan: "Who would you pick to win it all and who is your favorite player?"
Me: "I would have to say ST Life. My favorite American Polt decided to cancel last minute."
Random fan: "Why do you like Life so much??"
Me: *Has a brain fart* "Because he's so young!!"

I will never be unprepared again.

Even though Life is amazing, you can't yet compare him to Flash at all. I was v nervous around Flash. He had an aura of seriousness. Also, would you be confident when meeting God?

aww kawaii! I think I remember seeing you scrambling for tickets on that IEM thread - glad to see you got them and had such a good time! I didn't watch too many games myself, but at one point I walked behind the stage to get to the other side and was pleasantly surprised to see how open/chill the backstage area was! nice touch.
