This blog is about the awesome story of how I manned up and encountered Flash:
I arrived at comic con around noon and was blown away by everything going on as I walked through the comic con stands and towards the IEM set up. There was tons of costumes and stands selling stuff, but I went straight to the IEM NY area. After taking a quick look at the front stage, I caught Huk in the corner of my eye, and that's how I discovered the player's area, in the back. I spent a good 1-2 hours in the back watching and interacting with the pro gamers.
However, there was one person who I could not find... Flash. I knew he was supposed to be here. That's when I realized that he was actually on stage playing a intense, back-and-forth BO5 with DRG !! I got sucked into the player's area right from the beginning and could not believe I was missing Flash's live games. I headed to the front main stage, but I was too late. The "DRG is victorious" screen appeared and DRG took a close 3-2 series against Flash. This meant that Flash was eliminated from the tournament.
This is what I saw as I headed to the front stage. Always an honor to see Flash in action!
However, as soon as I saw this. I knew DRG has played Flash before and that it would be a tough series for Flash. Swarm Hosts OP!
Even though I caught glimpses of Flash's games, I was very bummed that I missed most of the games and that he was eliminated, but since I like DRG also, I got over it pretty quick. I wanted to see Flash so I headed to the back where I saw Flash sitting with some other players after just getting eliminated. I could tell he was bummed out but I was all giddy inside because I wanted an autograph/picture. So, I stood still there for 30 mins because I didn't want to ask him right after his win. Some other fans were also standing around but no one had the courage to talk to Flash. It was strange because I had no problem calling out to other progamers but it was much harder in the presence of Flash. As Flash began packing his things, I realized it was now or never. So, I took a deep breath and went for it. I shouted " Hey Flash!! I'm a big fan!" He then turned his head towards me and I signaled him over for a picture and autograph. He started walking over and I was so happy that he actually came over since he has a reputation for taking losses hard and not interacting afterwards (He was not seen at all on Sunday, the day after his loss). As he walked over, a HUGE crowd formed around Flash and me. Random people started thanking me for calling Flash over. I felt like a big deal (haha).
Now you can see the fruits of my labor. Pictures of KT Flash:
I was first in line so I got my close up with Flash!! However, I was too concentrated on taking a good photo that I did not even stare into my own camera on my phone. Unfortunate, but I accept it.
Check out Flash's huge scar from wrist surgery! It's amazing how many hours this guy has put in into Starcraft and how he is still able to play! His career length so far is longer than most professional sports players and he's still going strong. He's quite an inspiration and correctly nicknamed "God"
Hope you enjoy!!
If I have more time, I'll post other pictures of the event in another blog.
