Hey everybody,
It has been pretty wet over in my neck of the woods lately so waking up this morning with absolutely no plans I wandered off into the nearby forest. I started off towards a known blueberry patch I've picked from before and to my surprise the damn bushes hadn't even been touched by anyone. Around 30 minutes later I was walking off with ~2 lbs of some tasty (wheymouth I think) blueberries .
As my walk continued I stumbled upon another field of inkycaps. . . You guys might recognize these from my last hike out - Didn't grab any this time around though; I'm planning on going to a bbq where there will most likely be alcohol and well, I don't want to be that guy horribly sick, puking on everyone so these were left alone.
A little further in this area where these three massive conifers form a triangle around a bare spot in the woods I saw some rather large fungi growing. A couple steps closer and I realized it was something I hadn't ever found before
And here was another button just starting to emerge nearby
I know they're a type of bolete due to the pores but I have no idea as to what its name is. Thing is, boletes are generally super super tasty so if this one turns out edible that would be awesome. . .but if its poisonous I really don't want to chance a day or two being bedridden.
I can't find it on rogers mushrooms or any of my field guides =/. If anyone has an idea to what it is please let me know.
Characteristics: -Rubber feeling cap, easily bends but doesn't break or tear easy. -The white ring surrounding the cap quickly faded once picked. -Odor not distinct -Olive green / cream pores -stem is extremely short compared to other boletes, only an inch or two -grew with a couple surrounding others. + Show Spoiler + Sorry, didn't really clean them up for the pics. I was to focused on drinking my blueberry, chia, hemp, raspberry, and peach smoothie Being healthy ftw
-Munch

Just curious, but is there some mushroom hunting community or something? How did you get into this?

Certain times of year people would set up stands in town where you could sell mushrooms that you had found. People told me that some kinds would get you $30 per pound. This was ten years ago, and I never did it though.

In my country, the village wisdom tells us that if you dont know what kind of bolet it is, you better stay the fuck away from it. Some of them can kill you if you eat them, and the one you are asking about does not only looks kind of non tasty to me, but also looks evil as fuck. Stay away from it is my recomendation.

I want to play Forest Raider.
But yeah, confirm 100% safe before consumption.

Strangely interesting but I don't eat mushrooms unless I am at least 99% sure it isn't poisonous.
But yeah... stay away from that thing.

That second link is it exactly. Do you have a translation for it? I can't read german as much as I'd like too =/
edit: I found the translation. Tiger's eye bolete - guess I could've eaten it but it would've been extremely chewy >.<!
Edit:edit: I forgot to say thank you!

Yea, Washington has a mycology society that goes around and forages. I never joined them though; I tend to prefer not walking in army sized groups through any forest. Peace and quiet are my favs.

There's no such thing as a deadly bolete (afaik). Worst thing that can happen is you feel like a shitter for a day or two (Gast. Distress or something of that sorts).
Plus, if you go into mushroom foraging thinking every scary mushroom tastes bad, you'll miss out on some of the best ones out there .
