What if I told you that the world you inhabit is not nearly as lonely as it might seem.
What if I told you that there were an infinite number of parallel earths, each subtly different from the last.
What if I told you that there were places in which the membrane between those worlds had drawn so thin that events on their side could influence events on ours, places where their world bleeds into ours.
What if I told you that you could do more than just look on the effects of this strange pairing, but you could actually go there. Well, that's stretching the truth slightly. Of course you can't go there, that would be preposterous. There's no knowing if their air is even breathable to us. No, you'd probably be wrenched inside out by the new gravity alone...
However, thanks to new scientific developments, you can post on their internet.
It’s Liquid, but not as we know it...
Under the alien sun of the place that I will refer to from now on as Earth B, you will find LiquidPoker, a website from another time and another place. When you look on it, you will notice your eyes begin to hurt; don’t look away. You might think that this pain is because of the harsh glare and bright colours, but you would be mistaken. That stinging sensation is your eyes attempting to adjust to light from another earth. For those of you sensitive to its strange emanations, protective eyewear might be necessary.
Your brain will try constantly to wrest your eyes away from the display, to force your mouse to click elsewhere and stop you from your researches into this strange place. If you can force yourself to ignore that compulsion, you’ll find that there is just as much history and treasure in their strange mirror world as we have to ours. Their lives are every bit as real as our own, but they have their own Earth B twists.
I don’t doubt at all that it’s possible to dig in and find these gems for yourself, but to do so would take months, maybe years. For residents of Earth A, the mind cannot adapt easily to this foreign place. Your fragile, human eyes weren’t made for prolonged exposure. Instead, you must seek out those strange, liminal beings who are equally capable of navigating both worlds. If you knew the signs, you could find them easily; they have been marked by their existence between the worlds.
I have to thank Rekrul and Hurricane for helping me when I felt as though I could proceed no further, when I was lost in the tangled knots of topics I couldn’t understand and endless lists of pokey hands. It is a harrowing experience, to see that every username is accompanied by an icon you cannot decipher. The normal rules do not apply, but it’s more than that.
Thanks to my guides, my adventures were not the aimless rambling they might otherwise have been. I was directed to visit some of LiquidPoker’s strangest blogs and topics. These posts give some insight into the logic of another world, a forbidden place where men fear to tread.
There are even occasional steps into the profoundly insightful. Of all the LiquidPoker users I was directed to pay attention to, the enigmatic ByrneSam is among the most interesting. You’ve already seen the first sample of his work above, but his sharp mind has applied itself to many problems:
Just as we ruminate on the nuances of Starcraft, so does he on the oddities of poker...
Are we really so different, underneath it all?
Strangest still is that moment when, amid all the weirdness, you find something you recognise. After so long away from the shores of our own reality, my mind seizes on the slightest hint of familiarity. I am unable to look away. I feel at home for the first time since all of this began. All there is left to me is Rekrul's face, bobbling on top of Rick Astley's body...
This one is a quote, so that it would animate:
On October 09 2007 07:04 byrnesam wrote:hes no stranger to love ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/YB2MUGn.gif)
It’s not all blithe nonsense though. There are some very serious considerations of life on Earth B and how to engage with a world fraught by cataclysms. When faced with the injustices of war, famine, and pestilence, most of us just try to ignore the worst things about life on earth. There are a precious few who have found someone to blame though, and if there’s one thing we can learn from LiquidPoker it’s the depths to which those filthy lizardmen (homo sapiens saurus):
Now that I think about it, there is a very real possibility that their earth was conquered by a race of malignant reptilemen...
Continuing the Research: If you notice that my posting has fallen off, assume that I am to be found there. Indeed, I encourage everyone to sign up and enjoy the site for themselves. I haven’t yet received any PMs to my Liquid Poker inbox, so if anyone wants to make me feel more comfortable then a message or two would be very much appreciated.
To those of you intrepid few who dare to venture forth... godspeed.

I regularly read liquid poker blogs. Its like almost the same community but everyone has way more money then me. Floofy blogs are usually pretty funny.
Lots of pics of semi-nude women too. Its kind of like bizzaro-teamliquid. 5stars ofc love your writing sirjolt

I wonder if their admins look like ours, but with evil mustaches.

Woah, what a weird world. Strange that they never bothered to change the background color to something quieter, especially considering the now trademark Liquid Blue. Yellow is a...different kind of liquid.
|
I miss the time I spent on Earth A with my good pal SirJolt.
It's hard being seperated for so long, while he visits Earth B....I fear our relationship may never be the same.

I think I've just discovered a comedy goldmine. Thanks!

this is really funny in a way. in the first blog I click i see some familiar faces. this is a blog of one of the poker players. and just look under the april section and you see ... dApollo! and then other players: sea, huk, haypro and others. example:

pretty awesome beans
i guess these parallel universes are quite connected too by the power of nerd-ballers or something.

I've been to that site a few times, the only issue is I'm afraid of being as chobo at poker as I am at sc ;_;.

Strange parallel world. Are grrr and elky in there? My eyes can't adjust.

Liquid poker is great, best thread I read was this thing like you have a certain amount of points and you need to decide what to spend it on for being locked in the basement or something like that for a certain amount of years,at the end you get like 10 milion or something and you can halve the prize to be able to get more points for stuff.God damn it I cant find it now but if someone digs hard enough im sure you can find it

whats the highest number of active users on that world? right now its like 200.....

I've always wondered just WTH is up with liquidpoker. Like how are they related to our regular ol' TL? Do the 2 sites share the same server, host, owner, ISP? Are our admins admins there as well? So many questions...

I miss playing online poker so much. There were times when I visited liquidpoker 100% of the time and stopped coming here. Damn you FBI, I wanna play stars
|
I'm just a livegame noob but I have a game in Hawaii with a bunch of Japanese businessmen that I rake moneys at
I met rekrul in a casino in Korea once and watched him crush a $10/20
Been posting on LP for a while but the hand discussions really died down and I don't think there's much to be learned from the PLO discussions because it always comes down to "your hand selection sux play tighter n00b"

whoa shit PuertoRican still visits liquidpoker? I was unaware of this.

Liquidpoker is a fun place. I love reading interesting hand discussions. I get way too bored when I play poker, as most hands you play are uninteresting and uneventful, so I prefer reading the hands there rather than playing.

I would spend my points like this:
4 - Library - learn about drug induced comas and how to make life support device. 6 - Workshop - make life support device. 6 - Computer - Runs life support device. 6 - Kitchen - Keep you alive while you make life support device. 5 - Drugs - To make the coma. 2 - Doctor - To make sure you don't die and to wake you up when the time comes.
30 points. Give me my 10m.
Also liquid poker needs an update.

I've been to the other site (hehe) before it was cool
I hope you can make these parallel excursions a regular thing, Sir :D

The best and unbeatable classic floofy thread, Looks or Game is one of the best threads on the internet. It is the epic story about a boy on his quest to get laid, taking advice from a bunch of strangers on the internet. I remember when that thread was active I would read it everyday, hoping that floofy would provide an update.
Here it is: http://www.liquidpoker.net/poker-forum/410813/Looks_or_Game_.html , sadly floofy deleted most of his posts but if you go through everything and open every quote I think you can piece together a story.

Liquid Poker is like Team Liquid with the moderation turned down 50% or so.

So it's like the big brother of the Dota 2 section here?

It's Like TL 6-7 years ago but without fucked up streams

LP is like 50% less retarded than TL is in terms of general poster IQ and that's why the moderation is 50% lower

looking at their rofl thread. Its amazing!!! Thank you for the link, this might replace "e-mails from an asshole" for comedy

I read the blog a first time on my phone when I was in a cab and the .gif would not load. I spent the next hour imagining "Rekrul's face, bobbling on top of Rick Astley's body..."
5/5

I read this blog in Morpheous' voice. <3 SirJolt
And the LP forums are hands down more entertaining than TL's. I really think that it's because of overzealous moderation here, which for a "professional" progaming forum kinda makes sense, but reading LP really is almost like an alternate universe where the TL forums in the old day just took a name change. Don't know if I'm making sense and/or being an ass so I'll stop.
5/5!!

ToT)Midian( was a well known good zerg player in BW (obviously since he was a member of ToT). Hayder aka ToT)HayprO( = Liquid`HayprO Sea[Shield] (PoS, MBC, Team 8) = ToT)Sea( (honorary member I think?) = Liquid`Sea
I believe Midian (he visits korea), Rekrul and Grrr... are living in Korea, so Rekrul/Grrr... should know a lot of the foreigners and koreans there, since Rek and Grrr played BW/poker with a lot of them and hung out with the rest. They're like a welcome party when foreigners come to Korea, so they probably know every SC2 player that came there. xD
There's a lot of good oldschool BW players that play poker now, Elky is probably the most well known on a global scale, and then RaiNKhaN?
Also, Midian is from UK and dApollo is also from there.

18 girl 2+1 medical 2 garden 2 radio 4 library 1 pool table _____________ maybe for $5m, but doubt it (except if the food is atrocious) -1 pool table 6 kitchen
* if the girl isn't trapped with me, I'd get world news, messages from friends/family from her and remove the radio, then probably add hygiene or maybe cellphone, but doubt it * I assume the garden has sunlight/skylight, so I could just stay there and read books instead of the library/study * I don't need a gym since I can work out in the garden, you don't need weights to keep your body fit. if you really want you can make pretty much any weight and work-out machine from the stuff in the garden (rocks, trees...) plus the girl can help you work out by holding parts of your body or pushing * -2 radio, -1 pool table +7 stock market (with $5m upfront) might not be a bad idea as well, but I'd probably have to have some reliable world news source to do this, so it doesn't seem viable with this setup, unless I the girl can go out and fetch me some news * you can get the internet instead of girl (if you don't have to get the computer first), it's a very hard choice since internet can replace library, radio, cell phone and give you contact to other people... then you can get more stuff

I read this blog, then I went to liquid poker, then I started thinking how in haven't played poker for a few years. Then I reactivated my account on pokerstars. Found out I have $18 left in the account. Started playing microstakes immediately. New account balance: $23. Most likely outcome: reading this blog ends up costing me $1000
