Hello!

I am Atlasy#966 (on EU) and I've been in Diamond for a long period of time. And I could never get my promotion. I'm writing this blog for mainly personal use, but I figured that it'd be helpful for some other people. I'm probably going to be posting entries weekly. Mainly about my progress and what new things I've learned.

Today I will mainly practice against protoss and refine my builds.

I realized that almost everyone starts with a Pool first, I could always go for a Hatch first because ppl were generally bad and couldn't deny it. But I feel like that I should play more standard and mimic what the best players do.

I also have to change my inject method because I'm now aware that my macro can be improved by a lot. I've been using the backspace (with space) method since it's been discovered. but I think I'm going to switch to the locationmarker one.

Camera key inject for the win!

Ever wonder why Koreans have their hotkey setup like this:
1 - 4 = ARMY
5, 6, 7, 8, 9 = INDIVIDUAL HATCHERIES
0 (W or ~) = ALL HATCHES

They use the camera hotkey inject method! The spawn larva indicator bar only shows when you select a single hatch. So while they are tapping through their macro cycles, they periodically (depends on how fast your cycles are) tap 5 or 6 to check the spawn larva progress indicator. When they see that the bar on their first hatch is 95% done, they begin their inject cycle.

You're going to want to bind your camera keys to F1-F6 (a lot of ex-BW players do F2-F4 because that is all they had in BW), and as soon as you see that progress bar @95%, you tap to each hatch (either using your camera hotkeys or your hatch hotkeys - camera hotkeys are one key less) quickly drag a giant box, and V click. It's important to practice fluidly dragging giant boxes. Queen takes priority, which means she'll always be selected.

After that, back to business as usual - periodically checking that spawn larva progress bar while macroing.

And yes, everyone goes 14 pool or 15 pool, and for a very, very good reason. The only time I ever take a hatch first gamble is on Whirlwind or other big 4P maps. If you DO hatch first, you can afford to get an early speed (hooray). You're still going to want to get a roach warren at 6:30 - 7:00 because it's a key safety net against some earlier all-ins. Doesn't mean you ever have to use it - depends on what you scout.
