I think the guys will like this one. Depends on how your monitor is calibrated (cool, warm, color accuracy) the hue will either be a mid noon sun, afternoon sun, or a red sunset. Blended with my fingers with a few different colors, basically I just kept playing around.

an note, this video is not quite as work-safe as my other videos. But over all fairly safe.

hope you guys enjoy it.

Holy hell.. O_O

I was staring at the girl for like 90% of the time, amazed by the detail... until I noticed the ocean in the background at which point my brain commenced blowing up. You truly are amazing, Glider.

I humbly bow before your awesomeness.

how the heck are you so god.

did you sell your soul to the divil like paganini?

i cant tell if this is inspiring me to draw more or making me depressed about my own abilities.

(seriously though this is completely awesome.)

hehe, the white part in this drawing isn't really whiter than the white parts in my other drawing, but given its surrounding and context your brain makes it seem whiter than it is since it interprets it as light source. and the fact that I only draw a little bit of ocean makes the brain thinking "hum, this must be some really bright light to produce such a dramatic and overwhelming glistering/reflection on the water. I didn't really focus too much on the ocean, just enough to produce the environment / serene mood and enhance the light as mentioned above.

Also with colors, If you take two complimentary (or complementary - i forgot which is the correct term) such as blue and yellow, those work well together because one makes the other stand out. Basically something will never seem more blue than when it is next to yellow, vice versa if you want an yellow color to look super yellow, u put it next to blue. In a similar manner, although white isn't strictly a color, you can enhance its brightness by some orange/red that people associate with reflections from the sun.

Really great work, that ocean is the most sublime thing I've seen today. Most of the time, your drawings are more beautiful than the view outside my window; if only I could draw like you, I'd replace my windows with the drawings! Besides that, I've always been amazed by how you manage to capture emotions and feelings in the face, and especially the eyes, of the characters you draw. It's beyond remarkable.

I was totally thinking of doing this, I watch most of the videos you put on TL but holy shit man, that is next level blending.

I like the finished illustration but I couldn't see it when you were drawing it unlike your other works, perhaps it's just me but do you know why that might be the case? I mostly focused on her arm/chest trying to figure out whether that was a towel or a gull and then her face.

similar to optical illusion, it depends on the way your mind process image and link it to a known structure. for this drawing 99% of people should have no problem immediately see the figure/structure. But some are just not wired to do this as quickly. for an extreme example, do you have trouble seeing what animal this picture is in spoiler? This is more optical illusion-ish, about 50% will have trouble with it, but a lot will also see the animal in under 10 sec, the further you step back the easier it is.

Yes, quite humorous. I spent a good two minutes looking for the supposed animal and still can't see it so I gave up. There was this picture I saw in high school once where you were supposed to find a face in some beans and I never found it until it was pointed out to me.

Why is it that Glider gets autofeatured every tiny thing he does, however unrelated to Starcraft.

I understood 2-3 times after he did the few TSL images to promote his channel in return, and even the effort to get him Youtube frontpaged, but it looks like mods just go 'Glider? Guess we'll feature'. There's much more relevant and awesome content to be spotlighted on TL. And there are people with much greater contributions to esports that have never had a single blog featured, because they didn't make themselves a public personality.

Unless something has changed substantially, that's not how featured blogs works. A person is noticed for their outstanding blogs and the person gets featured, not their individual blog posts. Hopefully they continue to make awesome blogs because theoretically I could have a featured blog that only said 'sup guys.' Because it's auto-featured. There was some thought that those featured could choose to opt out some of their blogs so they could post a lower content blog without decreasing the quality of featured blogs, but I don't think that progressed far.

How my thought process works:
1) see title in blogs section of TL
2) finish reading title - discern it's art related. Not sure if want to see
3) see Glider's name by the side
4) sigh and be amazed yet again at the stunning work
5) feel ashamed you can't draw a straight stick figure yourself. Or your dog/cat/human art looks like an pre-schooler's work.

As always, beautiful work.

Hey thanks for voice your opinion. Just want to clarify a few things.

1. the blog section doesn't have to be related to sc or gaming stuff, I believe the point is that you can post w/e within the TL rules, especially allowing TL's community to show a side that can but not necessarily have to revolve around gaming. It's just blogs after all, I'm not posting this under general's or TL community.

2. featured blogs I believe is based on average user rating of the blogs and targets bloggers (click on the "featured blogs" text and you'll see the avg rating rank list. So really it wasn't the mods that put me there, it's you guys who view my blog and rate how much they enjoy it. It's not like a mod that sees a single blog by so and so, then auto features it without regard to content. It's an automated process based on past blog average user rating.

3. before any TSL stuff I was on this site for 10 years, the first crappy art video I made, i posted on here, and i have been doing it ever since. and the TSL stuff I did mostly to support TL, the "few" drawings (over 30) I did is my way of giving back a little. And TL is super nice enough to help promote my channel in return.

4. Now days If anyone thinks i'm continually posting my blog here for channel promotion, that's pretty mistaken. since a) most people that view my blog already know about my channel long ago, and b) although not a lot compared to many channels, I still get over at least half million fresh organic video views on YouTube each month, I'm not posting the 1 or 2 videos here during that period for an extra 2000 views from the same audience for self promotion... I'm simply doing what I been doing for a long time here.

I just don't want you to think TL is very unfairly favoring anything, that's not the way the featured blogs works. The most important thing is always content quality and how well it is received by the viewers, not just the mods. Hope that cleared things up a little. cheers.

I'm truly interested in what you plan on doing after "all of this." You could work anywhere or do anything with the skill and hard work you put into your art. I mean, who would not hire you?

Have any ideas??

I'm not really too interested in working for someone else, i'd rather dictate my own time and work, plus there are an infinite number of better artist than me out there for sure. right now I'm just interested in continuing making some art videos that people can relax into. doing some commissions here and there to pay the bills. similar to optical illusion, it depends on the way your mind process image and link it to a known structure. for this drawing 99% of people should have no problem immediately see the figure/structure. Hey, right on, thanks, I was wondering.

Also, I know I'm a nobody and my opinion doesn't count because I don't know enough about art to spot 'good,' but you're pretty amazing to me. There may be an 'infinite number of better artist' but I haven't seen 'em!

I think that's cuz most of them are not tech savvy (none-digital artists) and don't spend their time or know how to make/edit youtube videos and have the propensity to make it the way I do, with decent angle/lighting and always spending a shit tons of time finding matching music etc.. It's like I focus more on making videos that you can just come home, sit and watch, and your mind will be drawn/relax into for the next few minutes, instead of just focusing on some end result. I dunno, this is pretty much what I think.

I dunno, this is pretty much what I think.

I suppose that is possible, but don't you think that is part of the art? I mean, I'm sure you want your portraits (what I always see you drawing) to stand on their own artistic merit, and I think they do, but the videos are something as well. You might think, "Well, no big deal, anyone could do that." But, couldn't anyone just look at someone else's face and then copy exactly what they see? Nope. Because, in order to do that, you have to see so accurately, even a "pixel" could throw the entire thing off, that person's face in your mind. You can't stare at another photo forever. Eventually you have to look at the drawing you are working on and see it again on that canvas. Frankly, I'm astonished that it's even possible, that just by looking at someone, or having looked at someone, that anyone could use their mind to move their hand using some crude tool to draw what so many others would testify is nearly a perfect representation of that person.

See, what you imagine when you recall someone in your mind is not what the rest of us see. You see it with such precision, I think it would take another artist to appreciate it.

So, I don't know where I was going with all that, but even without the videos, I think your work is amazing, but I don't want you to discount your videos as trivial by themselves.

note: I see now where I got off track, but I'm hitting post anyway, lol.

How you manage to draw and bring an image to life is magical to me. Are you drawing free hand without any guiding lines or a reference photo? Yes or no, this is still ridiculously and incredibly good.

It's as if Glider actually takes a real picture, then erases it using fancy erasers and plays it to us in reverse so it looks like it was drawn. Your realistic drawings are my absolute favorites.

I think I read in a blog a long while back that there are multiple drawings before the "finished" one? Like a ton of practice drawings before the filmed one is even started.

Could be 100% wrong here, for some reason I remember that reply.

It's amazing how you let the light pass around her chin and sides - it looks so real. That's something I never get, how a painting can look as if it's shining, even though the brightest color it has is just the basic white of the sheet.

So impressed, really.

I know that nothing is more dangerous for an artist than praise, so I implore you to NOT STOP PERFECTING YOUR SKILLS despite it, but I can't help it: this is a beautiful thing to watch. Keep doing it, keep studying it, keep improving it.

Oh, and please share the awesome

Watching you draw is like watching Code S Koreans play Starcraft. There's something incredible at looking at someone so far beyond me that I know that an entire lifetime of effort would be unlikely to get me there. Holy crap.
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)
