I was staring at the girl for like 90% of the time, amazed by the detail... until I noticed the ocean in the background at which point my brain commenced blowing up. You truly are amazing, Glider. I humbly bow before your awesomeness.

did you sell your soul to the divil like paganini? i cant tell if this is inspiring me to draw more or making me depressed about my own abilities. (seriously though this is completely awesome.)

Are you a wizard? hehe, the white part in this drawing isn't really whiter than the white parts in my other drawing, but given its surrounding and context your brain makes it seem whiter than it is since it interprets it as light source. and the fact that I only draw a little bit of ocean makes the brain thinking "hum, this must be some really bright light to produce such a dramatic and overwhelming glistering/reflection on the water. I didn't really focus too much on the ocean, just enough to produce the environment / serene mood and enhance the light as mentioned above. Also with colors, If you take two complimentary (or complementary - i forgot which is the correct term) such as blue and yellow, those work well together because one makes the other stand out. Basically something will never seem more blue than when it is next to yellow, vice versa if you want an yellow color to look super yellow, u put it next to blue. In a similar manner, although white isn't strictly a color, you can enhance its brightness by some orange/red that people associate with reflections from the sun.

I mostly focused on her arm/chest trying to figure out whether that was a towel or a gull and then her face. similar to optical illusion, it depends on the way your mind process image and link it to a known structure. for this drawing 99% of people should have no problem immediately see the figure/structure. But some are just not wired to do this as quickly. for an extreme example, do you have trouble seeing what animal this picture is in spoiler? This is more optical illusion-ish, about 50% will have trouble with it, but a lot will also see the animal in under 10 sec, the further you step back the easier it is. + Show Spoiler +

I spent a good two minutes looking for the supposed animal and still can't see it so I gave up. There was this picture I saw in high school once where you were supposed to find a face in some beans and I never found it until it was pointed out to me.
