This blog post is in reference to my previous blog.

I asked Kim about his Brood War past. He started playing back in around 2001 before Brood War was really televised much at all for the team CJ when it was called (I believe) CJ Media. His real name is something like Kim Hyun Kyung. Kim tried explaining that the team later on split into Samsung, and something else. It was a little confusing due to his English. Kim spoke of how the team manager had a big payoff due to the sponsor switch, and that in the future the game would be televised. Kim said he didn't believe anyone would ever want to watch the game Brood War on television.

Kim recalls playing with both YelloW and Boxer, as well as Chojja, which is funny because he said YelloW was a terrible player when he started, and maphacked as well. Apparently there was pretty good prize money back then for winning tournaments, but Brood War just wasn't really televised or popular. His ID was BaDa in english, and he played Zerg. Back when he played Zerg he apparently did fairly well, but at the time thought Terran was the strongest race. As a result he tried switching to Terran and ended up losing all his matches. After that he ended his BW career. Kim said the only thing in English about him and Brood War is his Blizzard certification as a professional player, which he has back home.

He says he doesn't know very many of the newer players, but still knows the manager of Samsung KHAN. He was explaining how he can get sponsor gear whenever he likes by giving him a call.

Kim invited me to play some Brood War 1v1 matches with him. If I ever do the replays will definitely be saved and perhaps uploaded into a new blog

The other day he was talking with a co-worker about what StarCraft race all of the people on our project were. Apparently I'm a Protoss due to showing a lack of emotion when things get rough, haha. I got dat poker face yo!

Anyway, I had no idea Kim played such a long time ago! It will be very interesting to see how he plays if I 1v1 sometime when have some spare time from our project. And damn he's a great graphics programmer.

And to all of you who thought this was another DreaM)XeRO: ~ *mind fuckin blown* ~

I don't know anything about the player, but I found a replay of a game played in 2002 on 1.09b. It's a long shot sure, but maybe...?

Erm, I'm pretty sure January is a chick.

Unless he's referring to the previous manager, the infamous Bat Jung.

Theres no Kim Hyun Kyung either. Closest i got was Kim Kyung Hwan (김경환). (T)NoraJo. Games are from 2003 though.

Cool nevertheless. Good luck in the 1v1s. :D

maybe the language barrier is making stuff a bit difficult here... it would be perfect, if you found someone who could speak to him in korean to avoid that problem. but it's still a nice little story.

Eh, I'm aware of the guides. Nothing he said here has convinced me and I'm not the only one to question it (in this or the last blog). I'm happy to be wrong if he provides any solid evidence.

Edit: Perhaps I came across too aggressive. I didn't like the endless prick-tease in the last thread and the line "and you thought it was another DreaM)XeRO - mind-blown" part rubbed me the wrong way because he hasn't provided any evidence at all other than a name that doesn't match up and a few comments like the Blizz certification that don't make sense. If it all turns out to be true - or he's been had - I'll send him an apology .

Maybe I can get those 1v1 replays fairly soon...

Other than that all I can think of to prove it is to post a picture of him. But that'd be pretty awkward to ask of him. Maybe later in the year when I know him better.

Perhaps I have my timeline a bit wrong, but if this guy played against BoxeR, wouldn't he have to be at least ~27? Is he that old?

Yeah he's fairly old!

You are considering the option that this guy may be full of shit, right?

No.

Because you made it all up.

maybe the language barrier is making stuff a bit difficult here... it would be perfect, if you found someone who could speak to him in korean to avoid that problem. but it's still a nice little story.

Not really sure why but everyone from Germany seems to have a language barrier as well; they come off as condescending to me most of the time.

Also your "Stabbed a Man" chico story sounds like crap as well.

You're big on attention and drama but low on content. I hope you get caught out one day.

And to all of you who thought this was another DreaM)XeRO: ~ *mind fuckin blown* ~

Mind blown indeed.

I believe him. I think the reasons why his responses seem a bit off is because its hard to talk for someone else which hes doing and especially for someone whose English is not their first language. If you think about it, he has really no reason to lie to us. He just wanted to share it because it is pretty cool to know someone who used to be part of the pro korean bw scene. His eagerness to share might come across as attention seeking but I think its just because hes excited to share it. I also believe that the guy hes working with is telling the truth. Again no reason to make up a complete lie with someone you're working with. I don't know about the complete truth but its hard to really confirm his story because he wasn't really a notable player. He also played during the time when things weren't as documented as well as they are now. Best bet to really know is some really old school player who remembers him.

Most people who are big fans of scbw and Korea (which goes hand in hand) find out a Koreans name exactly. Not his last name. And not some rough "I think it's this but I'm unsure". They also don't hold onto the info teasing it out and writing things like "he's sitting here right next to me". Sitting with you but you don't know his name. I see.

They're also not so incredibly vague. And language barriers notwithstanding, people don't get completely different words like 'Blizzard' and 'Kespa' mixed up when talking about progaming licences. That's not how talking to a Korean or anyone with english as a second language works.

Basically someone is full of shit. If it's not Cecil it's clearly this Korean. The boasting, the bragging. Why would someone lie? For the same reasons people always do. In this case to make themselves seem more important than they are. Even if he's friend is a good sc player that still doesn't proves he played for Khan/CJ. I could see plenty of good sc players pretending they were some baller semi-pro/b-teamer. He can give an exact name, we can see a picture. Or I guess he can go and play a top foreigner now and destroy him. Anyway less is just bad hearsay.

You're right about the badly documented stuff. That's what makes the lie (if it is one) so good - because it's really hard to disprove and the vagueness isn't so noticeable. If he said he was playing a year ago and then got the gender of the manager of a team wrong and also didn't exist in the tl database it'd be obvious.
