This blog post is in reference to my previous blog.
I asked Kim about his Brood War past. He started playing back in around 2001 before Brood War was really televised much at all for the team CJ when it was called (I believe) CJ Media. His real name is something like Kim Hyun Kyung. Kim tried explaining that the team later on split into Samsung, and something else. It was a little confusing due to his English. Kim spoke of how the team manager had a big payoff due to the sponsor switch, and that in the future the game would be televised. Kim said he didn't believe anyone would ever want to watch the game Brood War on television.
Kim recalls playing with both YelloW and Boxer, as well as Chojja, which is funny because he said YelloW was a terrible player when he started, and maphacked as well. Apparently there was pretty good prize money back then for winning tournaments, but Brood War just wasn't really televised or popular. His ID was BaDa in english, and he played Zerg. Back when he played Zerg he apparently did fairly well, but at the time thought Terran was the strongest race. As a result he tried switching to Terran and ended up losing all his matches. After that he ended his BW career. Kim said the only thing in English about him and Brood War is his Blizzard certification as a professional player, which he has back home.
He says he doesn't know very many of the newer players, but still knows the manager of Samsung KHAN. He was explaining how he can get sponsor gear whenever he likes by giving him a call.
Kim invited me to play some Brood War 1v1 matches with him. If I ever do the replays will definitely be saved and perhaps uploaded into a new blog
The other day he was talking with a co-worker about what StarCraft race all of the people on our project were. Apparently I'm a Protoss due to showing a lack of emotion when things get rough, haha. I got dat poker face yo!
Anyway, I had no idea Kim played such a long time ago! It will be very interesting to see how he plays if I 1v1 sometime when have some spare time from our project. And damn he's a great graphics programmer.
And to all of you who thought this was another DreaM)XeRO: ~ *mind fuckin blown* ~
