Things focused on: Steps 4 and 5 of the Staircase
Completion of Focus: Finished Step 4 and did well in step 5
End of Day Placement: Bronze (Top 8!)
After some great comments on what I put up yesterday I re-looked at how I was doing things. (I do have to say that the 1 rating was a little harsh, but I can handle it. ) I think that everyone was right and I was adjusting things wrongly. There's a large reply there on the bottom. But suffice it to say I was handling things wrong and appreciate people pointing it out for me.
So I revisited how I was doing my opening and went back to my 1 barracks fast expand that I like so much. I did however stop getting my 3rd base so early. (Filter never does get a 3rd with only marines & marauders) I did that for a couple of reasons. Firstly I was getting it earlier than I plan on getting it when I'm not doing the staircase method. I'm aiming for a 10-12 minute window for putting up my 3rd (I think Filter's is at 12:30 or so). Secondly that 3rd was more of a hinder than an asset as I was NEVER able to defend it. I would attack move all my guys at his cannon wall as I was supposed to do, lose them all then he'd move out and start destroying my expansions.
Anyway, to make a long story short...ish I went back to the 1 barracks fast expand and was able to get an SQ in the high 80's and low 90's the entire day save 2 games. The first was the first game of level 5 and I would have gotten a high enough SQ had my opponent not picked up his OC and flew it to a dead part of the map over and over while I proceeded to kill everything else he had. Sat for a while with a max army and when I started killing off my own guys so I could make a couple vikings he finally surrendered.
So I'm now back to making my normal MMM army, but with better macro. And even though I'm only attack moving my guys to the back of his base I'm undefeated in level 5. (Won all 5 game ) Outmacroing everyone I've played, including a silver player I ran against who was trying to void ray rush me. My MMM army crushed through his 6 cannons and 2 zealots he had and he had to give up, felt good as it's the first cannon wall I've made it through since I've started this whole Staircase thing.
Other than that I've gotten myself a new set of headphones (Skullcandy Hesh 2.0s, not top of the line, but I like them) and watched some of the BWC tonight, though I am getting tired of seeing zerg battles. Some variety is always entertaining.
Will start over going for three in a row on step 5 tomorrow, then step 6 will be MMM but with Micro and step 7 is Hellions. Will be interesting to start playing with units I haven't used much yet. I used to do a dual hellion push, but I've never had a chance to use Ghosts or vikings or anything other than in the campaign, so it will be good to learn how to sue them. Alright, enough rambling.
