In the past I had an attitude that lower level players where lower level players simply because they were lazy and couldn't be bothered putting in the time needed to get better at the game. Whenever a lower level player asked for help i'd generally help them, give them a few tips or whatever but my mindset would be something along the lines of "meh, its only really going to help them if they actually click find match all day."
BUT THEN SOEMTHING HAPPENED. I decided to help a friend out who was stuck in Bronze. I told her to just click find match 40 times a day and she would easily get out of Bronze. She didn't. She said that she needed guidance. I thought it was just another person who is stuck in Bronze because they're lazy. I decided to help out anyway, since they were a friend and I'm a friendly guy who helps friendly friends out. I put a bit of time into writing up a notepad, making a replay or two then watching them try and execute the build for 1 or 2 games over Skype. They said now that they have guidance they will practice and get out of Bronze! "Yeah right..." I thought. So I go to bed, wake up and practice for most of the day like I usually do. Then it happens. After I'm done practicing I decided to check her match history and noticed she had grinded out over 30 games in a day, this absolutely blew my mind, I did not expect this at all. She went from basically never playing 1v1 to playing 30 games in 1 day. Then the next day, the same... Another 30 games - she managed to get herself into Silver and was messaging me thanking me for the guidance/help. I felt a lot of satisfaction because someone managed to move up a league because of my guidance and my mindset on lower level players has since changed. Guidance motivates people, it gives them a sense of direction, allows them to set and reach goals which when reached provide them with a sense of fulfilment.
So since I got a decent amount of satisfaction from helping someone improve, I decided I'm going to create a YouTube channel + website aimed at helping people improve! The channel/website is aimed at Zerg players only, so if you're not a Zerg player you should probably close this page right now or copy paste this as a reply "**** Zerg infestor imba more infestor more money."
I would love your feedback on my channel wherever possible or if you have any ideas for content or if you're struggling with something Zerg related and would like me to cover it, please let me know! Currently I plan to make a series on Allins, defending specific things, Interviews with high profile Zerg players, possibly pro rep analysis and maybe low level player rep analysis too. I hope I can also release an entertaining vid every now and then too, but I haven't really had any ideas for this yet.
As for Teamliquid, It's obvious that this is the #1 site for all things StarCraft related and honestly i've mostly just used it to find stream links, news, tournaments and other information via liquipedia - I use this site for pretty much everything I need SC2 related but have never really joined in on the forums. I will try to check out at least the strategy forums in the future and hopefully participate over there myself
The channel link is www.youtube.com/fenn3r and the website link is www.dfenner.com/starcraft
If you got to this point, thanks for reading.
Much love,
