A little about me:
I'm a 30 year old apprentice electrician from a small town in Northern California that no one has ever heard of. I've been around RTS games for a long time, (my first computer game I bought was Warcraft 2 which you had to play on dial up over MPlayer) but I never really got into playing it much because I just didn't understand it or the appeal until last week when I watched this video by Day[9]. The topic interested me because I was curious what the draw was and figured it would explain it. After seeing how passionate about the game that he is it made me want to try it, I did and then immediately bought the game and have damn near been living Starcraft for the past week.
A little about my blog:
The purpose of this blog is for me to "vocalize" my play and what I'm working on and to essentially chronicle my journey from a complete newb at Stacraft 2, to hopefully one day, master level play. I know it's an ostentatious goal, but since this blog is about the JOURNEY not the destination I think it will be valid even if I never reach my lofty goal.
About my play:
I started out by watching all of the Day[9] Newbie Tuesdays that I could and learning the fundamentals and how things SHOULD be done from that. Right now I play Terran because it's the one that I"m most familiar with after playing through most of the campaign. I have played a few games as Protoss and there are some things I like about it. I have played around with zerg a little but still don't quite get the "feel" for them, if that makes any sense. So right now I'm sticking with Terran for the time being.
I really enjoy the fact that the replays get saved and you can go over your games and see what you (and your opponent did) to find your weaknesses and work on them easily. As it is I probably spend 3 or 4 times more time playing without an opponent working on my mechanics and fundamentals then I do actually playing against either AI or people. As such I've only played about half of my games in the practice league.
The thing that really turned my play around is this Bronze to Master video series by Filter which I found here in the forums. That is amazing. After watching it I have been practicing the build that is in those videos, at first the only way I could get the 50 SCVs that I needed at the end of 10:00 was to only make 1 barracks and just turn out SCVs, then I started adding the other 10 in the "bronze" build he does which is just to practice making something simple and turning out units. Now I am working on the actual build with 3 barracks a factory and a starport. I can't quite get the 50 SCVs I should have at the end, I think the best I've been able to do is only 46, so I'm still working on that... but using this build I have won my last 5 games in a row
So... if you have made it this far then I applaud you for reading through my drivel, and thank you. Hopefully some people will read this, as I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want that, but this is ultimately just for me in another way to help me learn.
