Anyway, after my placement matches land me at a solid rank 1 silver (meh, so so bad, so so rusty), my fifth game into things I get matched up with a gamer. As in that was his handle. At the onset of the match he starts to lag. And I say "glhf" and then "don't lag out" -- I don't think he responded. :/
So part of the reason I decided to dabble in the ladder again was because I recently came across VODs of Destiny's mass queen series of games against lowbies like me. And I wanted to both put the thesis of that series to the test and also work on my mechanics a bit, for reasons not relevant to this particular blog.
So what ended up transpiring was that I got pinned down to a baneling bust which was very threatened, but never happened. I did manage to make it to two bases with my gosu unit composition of thor marine banshee, and almost had 3ish when the ling bling brood army wiped up my attempt to bust through the back rocks on ohana. I think he had five bases at that point.
From there it was all down hill... for him. As he gutted my natural, he gave an offensive GG. Perhaps, he took it the wrong way when I said "don't lag out" -- I don't know -- but at that point it was on, and I wasn't about to let him win the match AND win the BM. So, I said (as I have said before to others who have handled it with much more grace) that I followed the Galaxy Quest philosophy of "Never give up. Never surrender." trying to at least appear jovial and disguise my BM. He said something to the effect of pitying me and that he was going to teach me a lesson by NOT killing me and forcing me to leave the game.
Let the REAL game begin now. So I said that it would end in a stalemate and he said that it would take at least 3 hours before the map was mined out much less in a state where we had to worry about a stalemate. So I moved to the next phase of my plan: having fun with losing.
So at this point I'm left with a barracks, factory, starport, refinery, armory, engineering bay, and an orbital command. I've got a bunch of left over minerals... not specifically because I'm in silver, but because I had a hidden fourth that I was mining at until it was spotted and destroyed. So I start messing around with mules and scans, and start dropping mules on far off places that he is mining oh so slowly, like two drones per base, if that.
And then I tell him to build a command center with an scv that I build, and he does. And then he fungals it to death. And then I say he should build up a nuke and kill me with it. And he says no, thinking he's the sadist. So at this point, he has already killed my barracks and starport for whatever reason, and I scout his building of a supply depot and barracks with tech lab. And then he decides for whatever reason that I shall not be able to scout... that's too dangerous... somehow I might trick him and kill everything he has with hellions.... lol... so he takes it out with a combination of corruptors and lings.
At this point, my friend who plays on WOW is chatting with me so I'm explaining the situation to him and just chatting in general while I drop more scans and mules to help mine out the map faster (lol!). And then I decide to build my other refinery again because, well, that seemed like it would help mine the map faster, right?! So with a single ling, he micros to kill my builder but nothing more, only doing an extra swipe at a building here or there due to... uh, needing to concentrate on mining the map out slower??
So I get the refinery to about 80% and I just leave it there. I didn't want to waste all of my minerals to trying to mine the gas. So with a bunch more scans and mules I decide that if I am going to get this to end sooner at all, I'm going to have to be more proactive. So I start to build more scvs but this time, they would start attacking my buildings. I managed to get my finished refinery and armory to red, so they were able to burn down. I got my engineering bay to half health, when the sadist reared his ugly head again. Determined to cause me as much pain as possible in my BM loss, he forms a wall around my orbital with evolution chambers!!! Now my plan to fly my orbital into his corruptors or over his spores and cancel my engineering bay would never come to the fruition of a loss sooner than 5 days from now!!!
So I go on chatting to my friend and explain the situation when lo and behold... he starts to lag. He tabs back from his pron or w/e to make sure I wasn't killing his evo with an scv and the countdown stops, and then it starts again. And then it stops. And then it starts again. And eventually, he decided not to follow my inital advice....... and lagged out. LOLOLOL!!! I win! GG! Epic troll accomplished.
So the lesson learned here, is that when your a nine base zerg, do what Day9 says, and just go fkcing kill him.
And with that, I'd like to open the floor up to YOU, to share your most epic troll games. Pretty please!?
(So I'd like to just point out the psychology of that epicness. At first, I may have had him upset inadvertantly by saying "don't lag out" which I only realized after the game was over might be upsetting. I said it sincerely because I prefer to earn my ladder points without having to resort to this form of extreme trolling. But I can see how that might look like a taunt especially if he didn't notice the lag like by tabbing out. So, after not leaving after the offensive GG, the u mad bro, etc., I had played the part of having fun with the situation and playing into his wanting to slowly torture me. Then, it looked like I had cracked and that I wanted out, and that I was going to do it myself if he wouldn't. This sparked his ire even more and and would have none of it. But, with the prospect of a nice long wait ahead of him, he fatally did whatever he did at the beginning of the match and lagged. While it wasn't the effect I was necessarily going for, in hindsight, maybe it could have been intentional. It may certainly be intentional in the future. LOL -- don't
