I was never really into blogging, but I figured I may as well start one rather than make a post in which every reply would be "This isn't thread worthy, make it a blog."
Anyway, the reason why I'm making this is to pose you all a question: what does innovation mean to you?
Two of my friends and I are relatively new to web design and have decided to make a site based around innovation, its importance, etc. in order to test out and improve our skills. If you post in reply to the question, we assume that you would be fine with our using your reply in part of our site (potentially). Maybe I'll post on my blog from time to time about this mini-project or other things, but definitely expect me to post the end result.
TL;DR What does innovation mean to you? Noobs to web design looking for responses to include in a mini-project that we are making in order to improve and test out our skills.
Innovation means doing something that's always been done in a slightly different way, enough to change how it functions.
Something completely new would be invention.
For example, Mvp's TvZ Mech build he used in IEM where he gets 5 Banshees at a specific timing is innovation. A build that goes 3CC before Rax is invention (and not a very handy one too).
i recently finished an internship at the woodrow wilson international center for scholars, a big think tank in washington dc. i worked for the program on america and the global economy, which is a small department that studies what makes a country economically competitive, publishes its research, hosts panel discussions, and partners with other organizations and leaders to promote policies that the department finds advantageous.
working there really opened my eyes on the importance of innovation (mostly technological) in fueling a country's economy and ensuring that people have jobs and thus a decent standard of living. sure, there are factors like tax and corporate policies, monetary policy, etc etc. but in the end, you can't stimulate your economy if you don't have human capital. that is, well-educated, creative, hard working people.
government spending on things like better education (elementary is especially important), research/development for key manufacturing industries, and incentives for private investment in r&d are extremely important for making a country economically prosperous in the long run.
innovation to me means mixing disciplines and applying ideas and techniques from one media to another to make the product look and feel new and revolutionary while still being familiar to use. Shifting peoples comfort zones is a tricky and amazingly difficult game

Merriam-Webster says that it is the introduction of something new. It is a new idea, method or device (novelty).
Take the electric guitar as an example.
I am curious: are you learning English?
try rereading the title, he couldve read the definition himself, hes asking what it means to each of us personally.
just like love, innovation is subjective to everyone who has come in contact with it - everyone has a different meaning for it, through exposure and experience. Read the replies to get an idea.
How can you come in contact with innovation? You cannot feel it neither physically nor emotionally, but you can see it; you can even measure it. Hence, it is not a subjective word.
If it were to be, then so would invention, result, mathematics, and so on.
What are you expecting? "The other day, I realized I could put cookies in my cereal. Now that's innovation!"
